Branan Field Wildlife and Environmental Area reviews
10Pretty interesting, trees for day. Kept thinking I could shoot horror scenes for films because it has that eerie feel but also it was very pretty.
Quiet little park. Not many trails since it pretty much borders the Cecil airport. But it beats walking on the treadmill
Beautiful slice of old Florida hidden in Oakleaf. The parking area is small and only has an informative kiosk (no restrooms or water fountains). Trails are well marked and beginners friendly. There are also unmarked forest roads you can take. Dog-friendly.
Beautiful place, nicely labeled trails. Great place to see birds and relax. Took my dog and he loved it as well. Found a neat tree.
It’s was really nice until I was attacked by a gazillion mosquitoes. Lesson learned use bug spray and not that fancy organic stuff, that won’t work with the gigantic mosquitoes there.
Prescribed burning here has really paid off. A fantastic array of pineland plants, birds, herps, etc.
No dogs and no fishing that's why I give two stars. Dont understand why you can't have your dogs and you can't fish it's ok for a walk.
My favorite "escape" in OP/Jax. If you are early enough (or late in the evening), you might see a gopher tortoise, deer, raccoon, hawk, eagle, song birds, just about anything you'd expect in a FL flatwoods. The peace is very therapeutic.
I love walking the trails out there. I usually go down to the gopher tortoise burrows to look for new activity (you likely won't see them, but you can see the burrows and sometimes their trails or digging activity.) Just watch for the rattle snakes. Eagle, hawks, songbirds, foxes, coyote, deer, skunks, and im sure more, all also call the preserve home, as well. And if you see "trash" that looks decades old, please leave it be! It is historical and purposely left. If you see real trash, by all means, feel free to take that away! There is no public restroom, picnic area, playground, or anything like that. It's a peaceful area great for walks. Level ground.
