So very happy to be part of the Breath of Life family. Although we haven’t delivered yet, our experience with all the staff has been a breath of fresh air compared to group we transferred from. Highly recommend starting your pregnancy off right with this group of caring and compassionate providers and their staff!

I had my baby at BOL earlier this year and wish my experience was a little better. Prenatal care was great, everything went fine, but I expected a little more from them during labor. I had my water broke during a membrane sweep a day before that went unnoticed until I raised questions to the midwives. Because my water was slowly leaking they put me in the 24h clock to start labor otherwise I would have to be transferred to the hospital. I made it to the birth center on time having strong contractions, and was left on the room with my husband. I have for me they really thought I would be transferred because even the attending nurse left that night. The midwife had to make phone calls to get extra help because I was giving birth at anytime. For the most part it felt like my husband and I was doing it unassisted. I got there at 8pm and my baby was born at 10pm. I did not have laughing gas, shower or bathtub. When they started to fill up the tub -which takes 18 minutes I will never forget-, my baby was already crowning. I so wanted a water birth. I didn’t have pain management of any kind, not even from a tub in front of me the entire time. I truly think the water could have helped me not tear so badly (2nd degree tear and still dealing with it). I definitely feel like I was put into a first time mom/ long labor box. I was inexperienced and too scared of a home birth so that I decided to go with them. I think it’s an okay option outside of a hospital. Definitely have a doula to advocate for you once in labor. Plus I’m still dealing with them not refunding my money for the laughing gas almost 10 months later. Ughh I have called many times just to get the run around. I will be calling them again on Monday.

I am so grateful to be a patient at Breath of Life. I delivered my first daughter here in 05/2022 and I’m about to deliver my second here in September 2023. The midwives and staff are very caring, spend a lot of time with you, never rush you along and always keep you apprised of your health. I know at every appointment my weight, BP, urine test results and the health of me and my baby. I am never pushed to consent to unwanted procedures and I am provided informed consent about every single decision. Nothing is simply foisted on me because a doctor says they want to do this test or that one. Anyone who does their research knows the US is ranked 50th globally in outcomes for baby and maternal health… so the “standards” provided by OBGYNs should be deeply questioned. In the top performing countries, midwives deliver babies and care after their mothers. You can make that choice too by choosing prenatal care and delivery at BOL! You will make the best choice for you and your baby when you choose the care and love of fellow women at BOL! I unequivocally recommend coming here for your care.

This is my second baby at breath of life. Had such a wonderful experience. The midwives and nurses are so thoughtful and help through every contraction. They have an amazing team to help you through your pregnancy and then birth. The classes are so informative. You really feel at home and comfortable. I also love that it's all women staff. I enjoy that they teach you how to care for your little one and you get to go home after the birth also, especially with already having a three year old.

HIGHLY recommend to any pregnant woman. I was able to recommend to family and a niece was born there. My cousin recommended me and she had her daughter there. Truly a powerful experience and how birth is supposed to be.

I birthed four babies at Breath of Life and enjoyed the personalized prenatal care I received each time. I returned for a well-woman check-up and was again impressed at the genuine interest Shannon showed in me. She listened carefully and took her time during the appointment.

Let me start by saying, Louisa & a few of the other midwives are wonderful. If it weren’t for them, this place would tank. This organization is so poorly ran. There were so many issues during my pregnancy with the center itself - the staff constantly had wrong information or didn’t follow through. I had to constantly be the one following up or getting the desk staff to do their job correctly; get me the info I needed; get the info other imaging locations needed when they filled it out incorrectly, etc. I paid for them to be my provider yet they’d constantly refer me to other imaging because they no longer had one; sent me to the ER to sit & wait for hours in the middle of the afternoon knowing I didn’t have insurance, to get my amniotic fluid test rather than doing it at their location. This added up to thousands of additional dollars. They later told me they could have done the amniotic fluid testing at BOL. I was very frustrated to know that they instead caused me to incur thousands of additional dollars in bills by sending me to the hospital for their convenience. My first follow-up after having my baby was a joke. My partner who is a dentist was so frustrated with the lack of bedside manner, lack of information, lack of thorough exam, etc. (he has 3 previous children but this is my first). I was so overwhelmed as a new mom in PP, I didn’t know the difference but I knew I was feeling like they just wanted to push me through as fast as possible. A later follow up with Louisa & Tammy helped tremendously. They actually helped me & gave me information. I was always getting mixed info throughout my experience here. One big example caused undue continued pain, tears & suffering - I had massively bloody cracked bleeding nipples with blood clots & saw numerous lactation consultants. They all asked me to have BOL prescribe me the nipple cream from the compounding pharmacy. The first time I asked in tears, they told me they couldn’t but didn’t tell me why. I asked for follow up & they said they would but then I never heard back. My LC demanded I ask again given how bad it was. That time they did call it in to a compounding pharmacy at my second request with no issue. If I would have gotten it weeks earlier, I could have reduced my intense pain dramatically & much sooner. Additionally, l I transferred during my son’s birth in October (& I prepaid for nitrous which I didn’t use, etc) so there was a remaining balance refund owed. I followed up in dec while there for a pap. They sent it to the wrong address. They said they’d immediately get it voided & issue a new check to the correct address. By May 1st, I still hadn’t heard back. I left a voicemail & got a return call from an office worker just saying that she was sorry & relaying Glenda’s apology but they’d get it sorted out. It’s been 2 weeks, I called again. The desk worker said she can’t get ahold of Glenda because she’s at home & not answering her messages. She doesn’t have any more info to give me via the notes. I am imagining it will be more of the same runaround. It’s a shame this place is so poorly ran. There are some very kind & dedicated souls that work there & it’s basically the only birth center in the St. Pete area.

First impression so far is amazing, I haven’t conceived yet. But I wanted to prepare my body to conceive this month! I’m so happy with the service and information I received. Thank you Tammy and everyone that helped today!
