Burns Court Cinema reviews
19My wife and I went to a weekend special Cinema where Gus Molasses was showing Charlie Chaplin's masterpiece City Lights! Best decision we made all weekend) honest to goodness if the whole world could see this movie, I assure you the world would be a better place!
This is a great movie theater for seeing movies that aren't available at other cinemas. I really hope they open up again after the pandemic. They have a good number of independent films, and they seem to also get some high quality non-independent films in the mix as well. It's also located in a very interesting and beautiful part of downtown Sarasota with some nice looking architecture and unique local businesses like Owen's Fish Camp.
5 stars with some caveats.more of an “Art House” cinema, and it’s definitely an older theater, you don’t get the great comfortable seats, some awkward sight lines, but the sound is good. Beer and wine available, reasonable ticket prices, esp.if you are a member. Lovely part of town, parking might require some luck and timing. I’m just a fan of their overall “concept” or “mission”, so that makes me a happy member!
It's a quirky little theatre in a little arts and crafts area. Perfect for, and wonderful selection of movies.
‘Something cliche about being a safe haven for cinema. ’
But it’s true.
Thanks for helping influence me throughout my high school years, and giving me a place to see interesting films in a sea of comic books.
This movie theatre is horrendous and every single employee is terrible with customer service and rude. The owner should be ashamed and no wonder nobody in Sarasota knows about this theatre. Because it is TERRIBLE. I was absolutely disgusted wi the insults I received from there employees and they do not comply with any COVID-19 Rules. Disgusting
Burns Court has 3 small theaters for films. Run by the Sarasota Film Society, the facility selects art films and films with particular critical or literary merit, including some non English films as well as some also shown at more commercial theaters. It's a nice place with friendly staff, pretty standard movie snacks and less distance to your theater than some multiplexes. Also many fewer previews. Good sound etc.
Great chance to see not so mainstream cinema. Seats are old school and screen was smaller than big theaters. Good experience.
This is a truly great theater for showing the greatest and worst of independent films.
After all, who decides?
Use GPS to get there.
It is a hidden gem.
Love this little theatre. Great Films. The staff was very friendly and the old style of the theatre was nice. I will definately be back.
Excellent small theatre showing first run films you cannot always find in other theatres in Sarasota.
This is a very quaint, historical theater. The concession price is much more reasonable than mainstream.
Wonderful little theater right in the heart of downtown Sarasota. A little bit of a throwback but good seating and very friendly staff. Loved ità
Burns Court is one of the premier movie houses in Sarasota. It shows the best variety of films in the area. It often has special shows for their members hosted by Gus Mollasis, who is the top film historian in the area. You must visit it if you're in town and become a member of the Film Society if you're a local.
Old timey theatre luv this place super friendly staff, get yourself a Sam Adam's & a popcorn and watch interesting and out & in main stream movies!
Runs those art and independent films you might not be able to catch at the big name theatres. Small and friendly.
Everything was great. I only gave it 4 out of 5 because of the chairs. I wish they would update them.
Small theater showing reasonably priced art house films. Excellent atmosphere, great popcorn. Don't expect big time surround sound and 3d effects here.
