Friendly staff, great food and really good prices. A great relaxing place to stop for some food. Wish I had room for dessert!

Really good stuffed shrimp & fried plantains. My spouse chicken was great. The spicy cucumbers are different than what they used to be. I remember them as a spicy Italian vinaigrette & now they have like a spicy mustard type liquid. Liked the previous cukes better but the delicious seafood makes up for it.

This is my default place to go for fresh seafood, Caribbean style and the best servers in there too!

Excellent dinner. New owners maintained quality, fresh fish selections, as well as terrific service.

The grilled oysters (that sauce was AMAZING and so flavorful), the fish cake (called "stamp and go") and the key lime pie were all 5 stars. Actually, the key lime pie was the best I've EVER tasted. The consistency was unlike others.

The coconut shrimp and conch fritters were good too and worth ordering. I didn't care for the sauce for the fritters, as they could've used a creamy citrus one instead. However, the piña colada sauce for the shrimp was excellent.

Next time I wanna come back and try the pepper pot.

I am giving 2 stars because the fish was over cooked and bland with no flavors whatsoever. The conch chowder was bland as well nothing to it no flavors. We did get the key lime pie which it was ok. I have been at Calypsos before it was sold out to new owners and food was amazing. I would not go back for sure.

Atmosphere:

Great corner location with lots of natural light makes the place feel larger than its footprint. Well designed and organized to allow lots of seating. A properly decorated bar where you can watch a TV and have a few drinks. Nice mix of upbeat, 80s 90s and early 2000s music.

Food:

Conch Fritters

One of the best I've had. Crispy on the outside moist inside, nicely seasoned and well balanced amount of conch.

Fish n Chips

Nice portion, wedge French fries. It is market price as the fish varies. This time it was mahi for me… delicious. Nice n moist. The breading was well proportioned, thin and crispy.

Fried plantains:

These are the sweet kind, not tostones.

Service:

Friendly, attentive, and courteous.

Final thoughts:

A must visit if you're looking for great fish n chip and or conch fritters. The atmosphere should be great, the service matches it. If this come across your radar make sure you check it off at some point.

I have been eating at Calypso since the 80s when it was in the old Publix shopping center on 6th and Cypress (Now Orchard Grove). We were worried when the place recently sold that it wouldn’t be the same. Well, it was AMAZING! Still some of the best conch around. Cheers to the new owners! Well done!

I knew this gem in Pompano was good but it is not! It is AMAZING! Fresh, delicious food. Can’t wait to come back with all my family and friends. Had the clams casino, watermelon salad, Caribbean shrimp caprese and a grouper sandwich. Besides the great flavor, the freshness of the food was the best part. Can’t wait to try more. And the service was great! Happy people! A treasure now a days. And I went on my lunch time and even as busy as they were. It was fast and impecable. Calypso is now my favorite seafood place. Locals are right! This is a Pompano Gem!

The food was authentic. Worth every penny, my husband and I will definitely go back there. Our waiter was excellent. Checked on us frequently to make sure we was okay. Food was healthy not salty or loaded with preservatives.

Our server was great, the space was really clean, and the oysters were fresh and tasty. Regarding the oysters, I particularly enjoyed the "clear-oyster-sauce-cocktail" they included. A little dribble of that, alongside the usual oyster dressings, definitely elevated the oysters. The rest of the (hot) food was a little bland though.

This is a small restaurant and it fills up quickly. And it gets loud. They have a nice selection of fresh fish of the day, but when you grill it, it all sort of tastes the same. The smoked fish dip is very good but the grilled conch was chewy. The waitstaff was nice and the owner did come to check on us.

Highly disappointed. We came here due to the good reviews and left unhappy. The fish dip was mediocre. I wanted to get the fresh grouper, but they were out (even though it was still on the menu board). I ended up getting the baked shrimp and it was awful, chewy…dry. I ran out of water mid meal and the waitress didn’t even come by and refill it. I had to ask for a refill when she was bringing the check. My husband got the fish and chips and it was not flavorful at all and way too breaded. Do not recommended.

The most disgusting food I've ever had. I was legit traumatized that I didn't attempt to eat for the rest of the day. So bland and the cooking of the oysters and the crab stuffed mushrooms was so gross. This isn't true Caribbean/Island cuisine or whatever they try to peddle themselves as. This is only good if you actually never had authentic island cuisine

I am of Indian descent and my husband grew up in Miami, we know Curry and Caribbean food. We were visiting the area from Dallas and were misled by all the positive reviews. The food is not authentic Caribbean food, the place be it the waiters, cooks and owners are not Caribbean. This restaurant reeks of cultural appropriation, we were very disappointed with the food and the entire experience. If you are looking for authentic Caribbean food this is not the place for you. I never write reviews, but felt I had to in this instance for others to not be fooled like we were. Very disappointing experience!
