Candy Barrel, Tarpon Springs FL

My kids love The Candy Barrel. We have never had a bad experience here and we have been numerous times. I'm shocked by the negative reviews. The cashier was so sweet and patient even when my kids kept bringing stuff up and having to put it back because they didn't have enough money.

This is the most dishonest establishment that I have had the displeasure of visiting in the Tarpon Springs area. My family and I visited the Sponge Docks for some fun entertainment and I made the unfortunate mistake of visiting this store with my kids and their friends. One of the children in attendance with me needed to use the restroom while shopping, so I proceeded to take them to the bathroom nearby, as directed by the cashier. In that short time, the cashier took complete advantage of my absence and arbitrarily priced items at the register to be two to even four times the average market value of a piece of candy. There were no full size chocolate bars and each item purchased could have been found at a local Dollar Tree in a greater quantity at a fraction of the price. Upon a closer look, each small piece of candy ranged from $2.49 to $9.49 per item, for even a small mint. Furthermore, it was not until I got home and contemplated this further that I had realized that the receipt had more individual items charged than we actually had on hand. In fact, the female cashier even made the snarky comment in suggesting that we had an "excellent deal for what we had. " Initially, I scorned the children for overindulgence, until I had realized that my suspicion with the cashier was correct and I should have contended with her before departing from the store. The price per candy is either severely overpriced and / or the cashier found an opportunity to capitalize in an attempt to steeply charge the items beyond what they should actually cost in the average marketplace. If you elect to make a purchase here, watch very closely and ask questions about the cost of the items since the line items on the receipt can be inputted arbitrarily on the end of the cashier which is a shameful way to take advantage of young customers in a candy store. In fact, I still cannot figure out what small item that we had that would cost nearly $10 per piece. In the end, the chocolate pieces purchased tasted like soap and we disposed of most of this overpriced garbage. Shame on you, this is a very indecent way to run a candy store, and you should be ashamed of your malicious act!

Worst experience ever! Lady was incredibly rude! Thought it was just me but after my experience I went to different sites for reviews and there seems to be a common denominator: rude shop keeper! Others felt the same way some even calling her an old battle ax…so if you go in and are treated rudely you were forwarned!

Went here yesterday, the older woman running it was so incredibly rude I would absolutely NEVER go back. She was extremely rude for no reason at all. Terrible TERRIBLE way to treat customers.

Just got my diabetes under control but stumbled upon this place.spiraled out of control and fell off the band wagon.five star highly recommend.

I’m sad to say my family and I were very disappointed. Not only was the candy severely overpriced. The old woman who runs it is so mean and snobby towards the children and her customers. It was not a happy place & should not be in business. I took a look around and noticed most of her candy contains red dye 40 and other cancerous ingredients. I was appalled. This is not a place for children. I’m giving a fair warning to all the parents out there. Just go to another store. There’s plenty.

Horrible. Over priced, not friendly. The lady was rude, unprofessional, unpleasant. It seems that we were bothering her more than anything else. If she does not want customers, she might think about other options for work.
I will never go again.

The lady that worked there or owned it was so rude! I should have looked at the reviews before going in there… she didn’t want my daughter messing with the candy… it’s a freaking candy store lady! If you don’t want kids excited about your store then don’t have a candy store! She was horrible to my 6 year old! There is NO reason for that!

Gotta agree with the hilarious amount of negative reviews here. That woman was one of the rudest people I’ve ever encountered in real life. No idea why she runs a candy store. Also, who prices by the 1/4 then gets mad when people are confused? Just a confoundingly bad experience all around.

Cool store bringing back nostalgia of past candy as well as present but when my mom wanted me to just get her a little handful of candy for her birthday today from her childhood it came up to over 20 bucks. Candy you can find at Cracker Barrel, Buckees or Bass Pro for way less and alot more pre bagged. Older woman at the cash register had no personality and didn't seem like she wanted to be there, no smile or conversation, just weighed the overpriced candy and pretty much shoved it to my mom. My mom was stunned but we just paid the 20 and left, never again, more product for way less money at the places mentioned above.

If i could give negative stars i would! The employee working on 4/4 was horrible and a cheat. She overcharged me on tax and when I asked about it, she kicked me out of the store. My total was 5.32 and she charged me 6.00 "with tax. " It wasn't the extra. 30 she charged me over the. 34 I owed. It was her attitude. Several people walked out of the store because of her behavior. Do not patronize!

Nice candy store in Tarpon Springs. When you enter, you just see the high number of barrels with a variety of candies.

The store is well supplied with recent candies and those that we enjoy from our childhood.

They have an area for Chocolate and Fudge and another for Salt Water Taffy.

Love the selection of candy offerings, but the price is a little steep ($17-$19 a pound).

I was a baby the first time I came here. I have been to this store many times over the years. Today I visited again. I was prepared to spend about $20. After collecting an assortment of candies I made my way to the counter. The lady weighed the candy and the total was $21 something. I said I would put a few items back so I could pay $20. The lady lost her you know what. She yelled at me and commented how her till was going to be screwed up and that it would take 3 hours to fix. She collected all the candy and put it behind her, even though I told her I wanted to put items back - I still intended on buying stuff! I then witnessed an elderly woman approached with a single piece of candy and inquired it's cost. The lady was very rude with the elder. The lady weighed it and told her it was $1.25. The elder said nevermind and the lady flipped her you know what again. The lady was so flustered that she literally THREW the piece of candy in the direction of the elder. I said forget this noise and left. I told everyone outside not to go in because the lady at the desk is a wench.

Price really didn’t bother me yes it’s expensive. The service was horrible the woman working was very rude when we were checking out. Will never go back there.
