The worst ever service - ANYWHERE!
We are very fortunate to have travelled widely and often, we enjoy visiting new places and especially anywhere with a historical element/ story attached to it. We were advised this was a good place to visit and were intrigued by the fact many historical figures had visited there; from Churchill to Al Capone. The start of the evening was lovely, we arrived just at sunset to the dock to catch the boat that takes you to the restaurant, sadly there was not enough room for us on the first trip but it was no problem to wait a few minutes for the boat to return, and off we set, along the waterways, enjoying the short ride and the beautful homes along the banks and impressive yachts. We arrived at the ram shackled Cap’s Place and were initially charmed by the quirkiness of it … the dark wooden bar with uneven floors, but then we tried to order some drinks and that’s where it all went down hill, very quickly. I genuinely cannot tell you how unbelievably rude the lady (and I use that word very lightly) behind the bar was. She went out of her way to make us feel like we were an inconvenient irritant to her evening. The bar was busy and my husband and uncle tried to purchase drinks and were steadfastly ignored by the lady behind the bar, she served four other people who arrived at the bar after them. She really was so very rude and aggressive I can only presume she must have been dealing with some awful circumstances in her life and maybe she should have been given the evening off work to process whatever was causing her so much pain. Thankfully when we made it into dinner the waiter there, Robert, was lovely and saved the evening from being a complete disaster. The food was slow to arrive but tasty when it did. Summing up the whole experience I’d say it was ; charming, in parts, tortuous in others. I would NOT recommend going there.

The Food was delicious! Our family had the rib-eye, crab cakes, and seafood platter and everyone loved their meals.

Wine selection was really nice as well.

Overall it’s a super cute place. The ambience and service was great!

Fantastic and Romantic experience. Took my girlfriend there for her birthday. Short ferry ride to the restaurant. Food fantastic. Seafood broiled combo and crab cakes were delicious. The waiter sang happy birthday to my girlfriend. Friendly and historical restaurant.

Great historical venue, the walls hold many tales, secrets and laughs. We have a party of 12, accommodations were perfect for us. Food is great, fun friendly waitstaff “Robert”. This is a must see kinda place.

Did you say something about different places to eat well you will travel back in time and get on a boat when you go here with generous helpings and wonderfully fresh seafood. The chowder is made from a one of a kind legend seafood chef, who handed it down and is meticulously prepared as it used to be in days past. This is a true family own seafood restaurant with miles of character. If you are looking for something else you need not go any further because this is it. Not only have I eaten here I also worked here 30 years ago, to the Caps place team, Tallie, Tom, The Big Show and Wife, and Who can forget Don and Sylvester, ALL THE BEST, ALEX

On July 3,2022 we had lunch at this place, but our experience was terrible from start to finish. The boat driver was rude and didn't say a word to anyone on the way. The lady at the front desk rude and angry, our waiter was rude, and dismissive, he never told us about the history of the place, we heard it from the waitress at the next table, while our boyfriends were outside smoking we received a Discriminating treatment of the waiter and the worst thing was when my boyfriend spoke with the administrator, she only said thank you for letting me know. (She never made eye contact with us) We felt discriminated against and ignored by her.the food was so-so.terrible place we'll never return again.

This is a piece of Florida history
A Quant colorful place
Much of the decor is still from decades back, but that just adds to the atmosphere
A short ferry ride over and a short walk up the path and you're there
Our waiter Danny was awesome, he's been working there 25 yrs, as I suspect much of the staff are long-time employees
The food was incredible, not a huge menu but you don't need one, fresh fish served the way you want it, and some great appetizers
I can't believe I've lived in south FL.all my life and never visited this place
I definitely will be going back!

This is a must see place that's been around since the 20s. It's a rustic old building that looks like you could push it over. Eat here before it's gone forever! It's a little pricey but the boat ride makes up for it. I had the linguini, which I asked for extra al dente, and it came out mush. That's my only complaint.

An awful experience from start to finish. From the rude boat driver, to the filthy grounds, the nasty bar tender, the miserable host and the lackluster food. Two saving graces; the crab cakes and our server Melissa. Otherwise, two thumbs down. Anyone who has given this place 4 & 5 stars are simply out to lunch.

Was hoping for a great meal and experience for a birthday dinner. Agree with other recent reviews, the food is not worth the price. Bartender and Hostess are unpleasant.

The food at Caps Place was amazing and the waitress was wonderful, but unfortunately I cannot give the establishment more than one star due to the obnoxious, rude and unprofessional captain of the ferry (he was that bad). Besides having a major attitude for no apparent reason he yelled at us and called us names. He was careless with operating the boat by banging into the docks, making the very short ride uncomfortable and dangerous. There are many other restaurant choices out there to have to put up with that behavior.

I have deployed to multiple places in “third world country” Afghanistan. Some of the places I have been on, like Salerno and Asadabad (Camp Wright) had old buildings run by local nationals as restaurants. Sadly, these war torn concrete blocks that have had no renovations since they were built over 50 years ago looked a hell of a lot better than the rat’s nest that is Cap’s place. It is rather ridiculous that an old building that serves as a restaurant in Afghanistan looks better than one of the most “famous” places to eat in south Florida. The owners should take pride in the history of this building yet instead they make it look like an abandoned chicken coup. In addition, the staff is rude, and the food is H O R R I B L E! The only thing they rely on is there history, and it’s sad that they aren’t doing anything else r to keep it relevant. Don’t go here!

Food excellent service mediocre. A $32.00 meal served on a VERY chipped place. I don't think so.

Upset beyond belief. Bread and wine are the only 2 good things there! Seafood plate for $40 was terrible fish was dry veggies were awful and the tiny pieces of fried whatever that was on my plate was even worst. My husband ate something so bad that he would not finish no matter how hungry he was. I even tried the desert. Crust awesome key lime juice in the cake fake! The food tastes as awful as the ambiance (

Food was surprisingly great! Just a terrible wine list and the place could use a facelift at least do some landscaping
All in all I would still go back I just think there’s room for improvement
