I recently got married at Casa de Solana. We stayed at the Montejurra room which was private, comfortable, and romantic. I definitely recommend that room. The breakfasts were delicious and filling. Lynn did an excellent job setting up the courtyard for our ceremony. St. Augustine was hectic that weekend but we experienced minimal stress. Everything turned out beautifully and I have no regrets. Thanks for making our wedding and stay at the inn special. Jelenny and Theo Burrel.

Advertised pet friendly, it’s NOT with a unprofessional, rude, and immature GM (Kathy). She hung up on my husband after providing no solution to a barking dog that we left in our room from 5: 30pm to 6: 45pm. Our dog was asleep when we returned from looking at the lights around town. Her solution was to take your dog everywhere with you because you are disturbing guests. I can understand if it was past 10: 00pm but it wasn’t. She first refused a refund then told my husband “it’s on” to check out by 11: 00am. Highly unrecommended place to stay. We were so excited and happy to see St. Augustine for the first time but our trip was ruined by such an unprofessional, rude and mean spirited GM. Highly disappointed!

TL;DR: I tried to cancel my stay 7 days before my visit due to a covid diagnosis, and was charged the full amount including a $100 pet fee. The front desk seems helpless to do anything about it.

The infuriating details:
After testing positive for covid, I had to forego my trip to St. Augustine. I called on a Sunday to cancel my stay at Casa de Solana. The person I talked to said that they couldn't do the cancellation, and the manager would call me back the next day. No one called. I called back the day after and they couldn't find my reservation. Someone else was in that room, so they kind of spilled the beans that before I talked to anyone who could help, my booking was already removed from their system and the room was rebooked. This person also couldn't help me with my cancellation.

On Wednesday when I still hadn't heard back I called and got the answering machine. A little while later, the manager finally called me back. The call was quick and she basically said she couldn't do anything about it. I had no room, no refund, and no recourse. OK. So I called the credit card company to dispute the charge.

This is just awful customer service, from the mishandling of the communication to the refusal to refund anything, even with seven day's notice and them not losing any money on the room! And my having no control over our change in plans! And how is my pet costing you $100 now that I'm not coming? !

It's probably nice if everything goes well, but they would rather rob you than work with you if you have any complications. Steer clear!

Stayed one night this past weekend and enjoyed it more than any other place we’ve stayed in St. Augustine. By a happy accident we booked the British room and will try to do so anytime we come down. The location is amazing with everything in the historic district being only a 5 minute walk. The breakfast was fantastic, especially the banana bread! I look forward to staying here again! 10/10!

Just got a call from Kathy aka Karen that our dog barked and disturbed other guest at 5: 30 pm when we left to see the town. We were back in our room by 7 pm to a sleeping dog and Kathy was so rude. Not pet friendly and this was the rudest GM and completely unprofessional. She hung up on me when I asked why she offers pet friendly then attacked us for the dog barking. I would understand if it was late but at 5: 30 PM? Come on.

My wife and I are still at a lost for words with how wonderful our Experience and stay was at Casa De Solana! Our 6th year anniversary is definitely one for the books, because how amazing this location actually was. Thankyou to Lynn for being an amazing Host once we arrived, and being so patient to give us detailed directions for parking, and making a call to a restaurant near by to see if they could squeeze us in last minute for our Anniversary dinner. Also special thanks to the rest of the staff including Susan for being incredibly sweet, and assisting us with any request or questions we had. We loved EVERYTHING about this location, and we will definitely try to make it back in the near future! Count on us for referrals to be sent your way for our friends and family:)

The good: The location is fantastic. A part of Old Town, close to restaurants and the city plaza. The inn is very clean and was nicely decorated for the season. Our room was spacious and the bed was comfortable. The breakfast was superb. Now the bad: Getting to the inn is difficult because of the narrow one way streets. The parking for the inn is included in the nightly rate but is several blocks from the inn. There is suppose to be a two car loading area but in reality only one car at a time could unload. We ended up parking illegally at a nearby church in order to check in and get the parking pass. We ended up carrying our luggage from the parking lot. Our room was the British Suite. It was a third story attic suite and no elevator or bellman. The stairs are steep and the treads were not deep. The room was spacious but built under the eaves and had limited headroom around the bed and bathroom. I am 6'1" and felt like I had to stoop over to keep from hitting my head. My wife is 5'2" and hit her head hard enough to fall while trying to put trash in a wastebasket next to the wall. We are 74 but in good health.

There are definite pluses and minuses with this experience. It is in a very central location in historic St. Augustine. The place was very clean, the bed comfortable, the breakfast good. Downside is no on site parking. Only small spot to offload luggage. Parking is several blocks away. We ended up having to just park in the lot and carry all our bags. Our room was the British Suite located on the 3rd floor. We had to carry our bags up all those steep stairs. No elevator. It was an attic room with several eaves and low ceilings in areas. My 6'1" husband had to hunch over to get into bed and into the toilet. In the sitting area I bent to deposit an empty water bottle in the trash. I raised up and whacked my head so I ended up falling and hitting the coffee table on my way to the floor. It was difficult to adjust the hot water to get it good for a shower. Low water pressure. Maybe the rooms on the lower 2 floors were not like this. We definitely would not choose an attic room. We are 73 years old.

Thank you Casa de Solana for making my wedding day stress free and beautiful. The Montejurra is an amazing honeymoon suite. My family loved their rooms and your delicious breakfast. You made us all so comfortable. The staff is wonderful. A special thanks to Lynn for the perfect vows. We look forward to spending many special occasions with you.

I have emailed and called and cannot get a refund for my deposit. I have been promised phone calls and emails to resolve the issue and no one ever gets back to me. Would have loved to stay there but most definitely will chose somewhere else if we are able to travel again. Time to report to the Better Business Bureau because they DEFINITELY don't do good business. Let me clarify since the business clearly doesn't have any communication with each other: we have NO intention of ever coming and have asked for our money back NOT a certificate. I have every email sent and they clearly state we can get our MONEY back. We canceled in plenty of time and don't want a certificate. We want the money that is rightfully ours. Apologies at this point are useless. It has been months. Terribly run business. No communication with potential guests at all.

Let me start by saying that this is an amazing establishment and it is truly unfortunate that I am forced to write this review.

I had an absolutely wonderful time when I stayed here in 2019 for my birthday…which turned into a magical proposal. Absolutely no complaints! My now husband and I even vowed to come back on our 1 year anniversary which is in November 2021.

I booked our one year anniversary trip in January 2021 and paid 1/2 of the deposit…fast forward to September 2021…my spouse and I decided to explore another opportunity to celebrate our anniversary so I called to cancel our reservation. I was expecting a full refund as I was well within their cancellation policy requirements.

I was told that I would get a full refund but because I made the deposit back in January that the charge could not reversed back to my debit card, so I would receive a refund check via the mail.

That was almost 45 days ago…within this timeframe I have been told that the “check” is in the mail 3 times, also “let me check my bank account”, and even “I have no way to make it to the post office…you will receive it in a day” when asked to overnight the check.

My phone calls have not been returned and I am pursuing my own actions starting with my banking institution!

This experience has ruined my wonderful memory of getting engaged here, and we will never return. I am appalled that a business would treat its customers this way and truly disgusted to be lied to over and over!

What an unnecessary experience! Such a shame! #facts
