Great place for a nature hike, some areas fully paved, once the pavement ends, not difficult terrain but it has exposed limestone/coral and the occasional tree roots.

Park is nice enough, rather primitive in a way. Signage was not good at all. Many were blank and some were knocked down. It was kind of busy as only one parking space left after us. Did a 3.5 mile walk. The 'lake' in the middle was quite beautiful.

Don’t waist your time. This state park has never been or could ever be a botanical garden. With 8 to 12 parking spots along the road. As you enter, your greeted with a small pay me sign and a bathroom that is in need a some TLC. Then you walk down a old asphalt and if your lucky enough to see a small sign pointing to a Barry plant or Poison Oak. It would be better off just to close the park and let Mother Nature take care of it. Save your $2,50 and have a beer instead

This state park was on our way to our trip to Key West and since I have it on my list we decided to stop.
Parking is not that big and it’s free.

The entrance has a price and you can check it out as soon as you get in with the envelopes that they provide you. Once you pay you put that envelope on the car.

We really enjoy to walk around this park and if I had better shoes I will probably walk even more. They have a few benches (not that many) This place is great for families, to bike, or simply to walk around enjoying the weather like we did.

This place has alot of potential it's gotten better since 5 years ago. You don't have to jog the trails with any worrys or fears of running into a banana spider/snakes or hitting your head on a branch 5 ft above ground or falling down from debris on the trail. I felt like Indiana Jones when I came here wondering what adventure await this time. Now the trails are clear no branches in the way and I haven't seen any spiders in the trail.

One of the better Build-a-Walk hikes in the Keys. Lots of acreage and changes of scenery in this failed development site as it's slowly reclaimed by the jungle/mangroves.

Quirky Florida fun's Always a five!

Though I think these curious trails are worth exploring not everyone will agree.

So what? These lands were saved from development years ago and have been allowed to be reclaimed by the environment. So don't expect well manicured gardens or trails because this isn't that though you wouldn't entirely be wrong for thinking so from the name and impressive Jurassic Park looking gate!

Unsung heros saved these hardwood trees and habitat where the Key Largo cotton mouse and wood rats largely make their home from massive sprawling concrete jungle development in the late 70s, early 80s. And though it may not seem like it to some, this is what success sometimes looks like. Who would have thunk?

Most any all evidence of that has been raised including parts of an old radar base leaving only few curious features to explore. Fun fun.

Nice little hiking & biking park. Had to head back to get bike repaired, so did not stay long. Hopefully I can go back tomorrow and I will update this review. I want to see where some of these trails lead and what's there. Open 8 am to sunset, restrooms and picnic tables available.

Ok for a walk, but pretty boring. Very few critters, birds or anything. Only 1 or 2 butterflies. Not what I would consider beautifully full of interesting botanicals.

If you want a wooded semi-shaded trail to walk/bike a gravel road with the family or by yourself, then this is for you. If you are a Florida hiker you will be very disappointed and know what I mean if you ever visit. Car sounds infiltrate the trails from the highway the entire time. The designated trails are loops that end up in closed off areas that force you to backtrack the same trail. Other smaller trails look like they exist? But no signage to know where they lead to and the main map does not show them, just a one mile loop and a two mile loop, that as mentioned, aren't really loops. Signs along the way state to stay on the main trail, which you can only assume is the dirt gravel road. I can understand the sentiment of others that state one could get lost. The signage is just not good. Several people mentioned bugs in their review. Notably they were visiting in July. I did not encounter any in my recent visit in August. Always have my mosquito garb to throw on just in case but it was not needed at all. Best bet is just be prepared. The best thing I saw at this park was lots of native snowberry. Not something you see every day as it is native to that area.

Very nice and quiet. We wished the paths would be marked a little better. BRING YOUR BUG SPRAY. We were fine for the first loop, but then we took a few paths off the main paved path, and were quickly eaten alive by the mosquitos.

“Botanical Garden” is a complete misnomer. It would be more accurate to just call it a nature trail. It needs some help — signs are confusing once you get back in there, as there are some forks without signage and the risk of getting lost. It is true what others say about the bug/mosquito problem. We got completely attacked, and spent most of the time running and waving our arms madly to keep them off. Visiting from Texas, we had mainly been at the beach so no bug spray. And now we learn that cases of dengue fever are springing up in the area. Not cool. Definitely memorable as a low point of our trip. Assuming we don’t all come down with fevers, it gives us something to laugh about, and exclaim, “Never again! ”

We enjoyed the one-mile loop this morning. There was a cool breeze and easy walking trail. Very quiet. Saw lots of butterflies and tiny lizards. You might want to bring mosquito repellant. Admission is $2.50 per adult, cash only, dogs allowed.

Very pleasant paths to walk. However, part of the 2 mile loop is flooded right now, so you can't go through the entire loop.

Bring a waterbottle with you and bug spray. Very nice nature walk. Lots of trees very very few flowers. Cool look out spots over rocks and water. Partial shade on some paths. The first inital path is paved the rest 1 mile and 2 mile paths are dirt paths.

Part of the trail was slightly flooded. Length of trail good for little motion. Didn't see much wildlife though. Three different vegetation zones. Different trail lengths, restroom and a table for picknicks.

Nice place for a hike or a short but pleasant bike ride. The trail is half paved and half gravel. There are wildflowers along the route. There is also a lake. The volunteer at the gate was friendly and knowledgeable. Convenient location at the north entry to Key Largo.

We were out of the car for less than a minute trying to put bug spray on and mosquitos started swarming us. We hurried and got back in the car and left. Looks like a cool place but we dont need to be eaten alive

Interesting place - a failed hotel and condo development that has been reclaimed as a state park. You can see the old lamppost blocks, water, and sewer, as well as other details left over from the development. Nature is claiming it all back, and it has a bit of a ghost town feel. The mangrove fields to the east stretch on for miles and miles! Good for a couple mile walk or might be a good running loop.
