Department of Health in Sarasota County reviews
19This County Health Department is not effective or responsible. No one answers their phone and they do not return the call as their message states. Poor service as far as I’m concerned. Next time I call them, I will ask for a Supervisor to see if the outcome is different.
I would give this place ZERO stars if it allowed me. It’s nearly impossible to schedule an appointment with the immunization office, they NEVER pick up the phone and I’m left with constantly leaving voicemails which never get returned. I have tried to go into the office to schedule an appointment in person and I get turned away every-time and is told to make an appointment over the phone. How is my child supposed to be up to date on his vaccinations if they can’t do their job! Sadly there is nowhere else to go for this either otherwise I would’ve. It is gross inside the building and the nurse doesn’t know how to administer a proper shot either leaving my child with a hard lump in his leg at the injection site along with pain.
Excellent pharmacy. It was my first time here. Very nice and clean building/facility. The lady at the pharmacy window was so friendly, polite, informative and helpful. One could not ask for better service and guidance. It was a perfect and pleasant experience. Thank you so much.
I have been a part of this program for over 3 years and the service they provide has gone down in wuality heavily. IF YOU ARE EVER GIVEN AN APPOINTMENT WITH Mrs Yen Lee be sure to change doctors immediately. They used to have about 5-7 doctors working and since the pandemic i was told they only have 2 full time doctors and her being one of them i had to see her after having dealt with some of her rude and snarky comments in the past. I went to my appointment as scheduled and the front desk put my check in time down incorrectly. As mrs.lee (cant capitalzie someones name who is disrespectful) entered the room she began scolding me and telling me about she was hoping to not see me again as a patient and how she doesn't like seeing “people like me”. Im pursuing legal action as soon as possible. Never go to an appointment there with the doctor by the name of yen lee. Condescending and judging patients personal lives and not being professional during an appointment. Never see that doctor. Im filing as many complaint's as i can. They pharmacy staff and the other nurses in her office told me shes an a*****e and that they were sorry that i had to deal with her. Never should a doctors appointment for epilepsy be that difficult. Disappointing that they allow doctors like her to practice.
Horrible billing department! My husband and I paid our co-pay when we had our appt at the travel clinic and they repeatedly keep sending us a bill for co-pay. I sent in multiple times explaining we already paid but now I am past 60 days due. Please get your business together! I am never going back!
I DO NOT recommend bringing your child to get their teeth checked here!
I brought my son at three years old here and I was not allowed to go in with him. When he did come out his eyes were red from crying and there were small red dots all over the skin surrounding his eye. I thought it was an allergic reaction and I brought him to his Doctor (at another location) and they said the red dots were do to hard friction/rubbing against something. They also told me there was no way someone as petite as he was could do that to himself, even if he tried. 5 years later I brought him here again, believing maybe the staff had changed or new standards were set, was I wrong. This time I came in with him and the dental hygienist (female strong Spanish accent) was rude and was mouthing off about his developing cavity. Shortly after the dentist (senior black male) came in and was condescending and was no different if not worst than the dental hygienist. He then proceeded to GRAB MY CHILDS HEAD AND PUSH IT BACK INTO THE DENTIST CHAIR! I am disgusted!

If you're looking for high quality dentists, a kid friendly facility and just a decent staff overall that accepts all insurance. Then I recommend Suncoast pediatric dentistry. It is a drive and it's up in Brandon but my son gets the proper treatment he deserves and respect overall.
People who really care - and it shows! So thankful for the great service I received from Bessie. Any time I have needed this department they have been incredible! They always return calls - give efficient accurate information & help!
This health department is a disgrace to health care. The staff here are extremely rude and unknowledgeable. They have no idea how to handle situations or people or crowds or their self in a professional manor. You can't contact them directly and most of all they don't care about your health other then keeping their job with the government and just winging their day to day job every day. I couldn't be any more disgusted with the staff here for the lack of care of people's health and the importance of keeping people on schedule and track to a healthy life. I could write all my bad experiences on this post about these people but I want everyone to read this and not be scared of the length and depth of this message to you all. Please go ahead and go to a better health department and save your time. BBB has a lot to say about these people too.
The Health Department is so nice and knowledgeable! The staff there are honestly amazing. I trust them with my life 10x over and I can't say that about a lot of places. The Health Department and their wonderful team of doctors has helped me through every hardship of my life so far whether it be personally mental, physical, or just general check ups. Doctors are always so happy and lovely they never rush you and are always incredibly patient with you. I've never had doctors pay so much attention to how I feel and the why I carry myself. Doctors wear masks and for someone who knows immuno compromised people that's a big deal. They really make the best of what they can even though some people can't accept that I think it's an important thing to see. The Health Department staff even gives you the privacy you'd reserve and respects your body and your personal choices. I have never felt judged by any of them. They also have an absolutely amazing team for LGBTQ+ folks who may not have a home that supports them. The Health Department and their staff will make you feel welcomed. They've made me feel like their family and not just a patient. Like they're here to fix me and not send me through loops and pull the wool over my eyes. I've never had a bad experience. From a child to an adult the Health Department has always been there for me helping me or family members through the worst, best, and average times. Highly recommend!
One star is too many for this place. How do you say you have no way to check appointment availability and you have to make an appointment so see a pediatrician?
I was very happy with the process, it was quick and efficient! Kendra (RN) was very kind and empathetic. Then when I was prompted to complete labs, Nikki (Supervisor) made me comfortable and it was painless!
First off I want to say I absolutely love Dr. Le. She is a class act. Wonderful doctor. As far as Who answers the phone. Extremely rude. If you can actually get through their phone lines, it’s almost impossible. I had an x-ray Four days ago I was told 24 to 48 hours for the results. No day for they tell me I can wait until August 23 for the results or drive all the way to Northport because they will not tell me over the phone. Unbelievable
Florida Department of Health Sarasota doesn't answer their phone, no way to leave a message now, never returned voicemails when it was possible to leave a message.
Very poor and unproffesional.
Got my covid shot at the Sarasota square mall. All of the staff was extremely efficient, helpful, and nice.
It would be great if i could even get a hold of somebody on the phone, but theres never an answer
My wife and I had our first Covid19 vaccination today between 1 and 2 pm at the Sarasota DOH. We waited about 15 minutes outside before entering the building's reception area, then perhaps 10 minutes before our number was called to go to the second floor. There we had our information and identification checked and waited for about 10 minutes until a nurse ushered us into a private vaccination room. She explained the possible side effects, if any, gave us our shots, and explained how to secure the second shot 4 weeks from now. Then we went to another room where we waited for 15 minutes to see if we were going to have a negative reaction to the vaccine. Finally, we were asked how we felt, we felt fine, and then we left! The entire was process was smoothly and professionally managed. The employees were personable and cheerful, which greatly helped to alleviate any anxiety we might have had. Everyone was masked and proper social distancing was followed.
I have tried calling them for the past 5 days and no one is answering the phone. I finally got someone to answer and they said they would transfer me and they ended up just hanging up on me. Tried to call back and once again no one is answering. Waste of time.
Very nice people but they don't even answer the phone. I understand we are in extraordinary times but that is when you must be prepared to act. This department acts slowly, dangerously, communicates badly and is far worse than neighboring county DOH.
Completely useless, I've been trying to call for the last two days, it is busy every time I call. I was given this number by the Florida Department of Health because they said that issues are handled by the local office. I am not referring to the work of doctors and nurses, I am just speaking about the ability to communicate with the department.
