Dr. Stephanie Shim, MD, Miami Beach FL

I switched to Dr Shim as my orthopedic on the recommendation of my primary doc (Dr. Georgi Miller) for a nagging sports injury that has not completely resolved under the prior orthopedist treating it. After a through consult including xrays, Dr. Shim and her PA order an MRI which the previous ortho had not and decided on a course of action to help treat it without rushing to surgery.

As it were, I had the MRI on December 30th - before a holiday weekend. The results were posted on the Electronic Health Record right on the 31st. With the quick turnaround for even a non-emergency condition, service is spectacular. Dr. Shim herself called me with the results and treatment plan right on the 3rd.

Her office staff - from the office manager who did the paperwork after I left without me calling to remind since the system was down during my visit to the xray tech (who even let me practice talking in Russian) - was top notch and very helpful. I highly recommend this practice.

Do not go this this doctor they post wrong address you call to ask for help they tell you no worries it’s ok and can’t help find building then once you finally find it they make you wait 40 minutes cuz you were late meanwhile people who were on time and had earlier apts are still in waiting room and not been seen. Then they loose your insurance card. It’s a hot mess!

Dr Sims is excellent doctor

Staff is not good on follow up. In addition I was in hold for over 40 minutes regarding a referral that needed to be faxed for nerve conductive test. I had to hang up because my hand that suffers from carpel tunnel was hurting. This is reason for seeing Dr Sims

I call a week ago to get referral faxed as of yet nothing was received. Specialist will not schedule appointment until referral is received

The Dr. Shim is very Professional, I Love all the information that she gives me every time that I saw her. The reason for the one star is the staff. I am waiting since November 16th (today is Dec 13th) for MRI and maybe I need to reschedule again, and again, because the insurance doesn't have any order for MRI. If you call them, nobody knows, they saying the MRI office needs to send the information to my insurance, the MRI office saying the same thing, and I am completely lost in this situation. How is possible?

Terrible office staff, follow up and patient management. Especially if you try to call.

While Stephanie is a good doctor / surgeon when you actually meet her, her mount Sinai office staff are terrible.

After seeing Dr shim once and attempting to follow up, and communicate via the Mt Sinai messaging system with her staff, or by phone, was bounced around for hours by phone between different reps (used the correct phone number, option 4).
I ended up starting from scratch with another MD.

& shows genuine concern for her patients. She made sure to personally call to check on me after my surgery and that meant a lot. I highly recommend her, she’s amazing.

I am rating my experience outside before I saw the doctor. The nurses and Dr. Shim we’re amazing and I highly recommend them. However, my initial experience when I arrived was absolutely awful. So bad I was in tears. I arrived with my 6 months old baby strapped on me. The woman at the front asked me for my referral which I informed her they had in their system as I confirmed with the office the day before. She said she didn’t have access to it and told me to sit down till she figured it out. While waiting I went upstairs to my primary care doctors office to get the referral printed to save time. Back at Dr. Shim’s office the woman at the front highlighted with a marker that the diagnosis on my referral was not something they did therefore they can’t accept it. Accidentally my primary care physician’s office mixed up the diagnosis from the referral to the dermatologist. I told her no worries I’d run back up and fix it. She informed me that at this point it was 8: 50am and my appointment was at 8: 30am and if I’m passed 15 mins late the doctor won’t see me. I was devastated. I went to see Dr. Shim because my wrists were hurting so bad I could hardly even hold my baby, and I literally had to move mountains to show up to that appointment. I was there on time but because of the mix up with the referral now I was over the 15 mins. I broke down crying out of frustration. I asked her to come up with a solution because I need to see the doctor and all these excuses with the referral and time we’re just ridiculous. After seeing how upset I was she became defensive and just wouldn’t want to work with me. I went back up to my primary physician’s office still in tears and told them what happened. They were amazing. They corrected my referral and the office manager called Dr. Shim’s office manager and told them what happened. They were apparently denying everything and told me to go back and the doctor would see me. After this my experience was amazing. Everyone was extremely helpful and nice. Dr Shim is an incredible doctor, she explained everything in detail. I’m sorry for having to write such a bad review but I wanted to bring awareness to what happened.

Love Dr Shim, she really takes her time to explain and time to take care of you. I trust her and I would send friends and family to her office because everyone is nice and courteous and most importantly because Dr Shim has the knowledge and training that speak for itself.

I had an excellent visit with Dr. Shim. She diagnosed my issue quickly and took the time to answer my questions and suggest a plan going forward.
There was a minimum of wait time, the staff was efficient, and I was out the door quicker and more satisfied than my typical doctor visit.

I was seen, tested, and consulted quickly and efficiently, while Dr. Shim was patient, comforting, and thorough.

to understand my issue. She and her staff all made a great first impression. Looking forward to working with her!
