FamCamp Office MacDill AFB RV Park reviews
20I asked for speed control in the Famcamp area. Everyone, including Police are speeding throughout the campground
Beautiful facility with great showers, laundry room and pretty much all the amenities you could ask for it. The only downside is that you're not allowed to have any open fires including campfires.
MacDill Air Force Base, fam camp is an outstanding value, family, friendly, quiet, and picturesque Paradise. The regulars are friendly and the staff very helpful.
We are full-time nomads and frequent military RV parks. This one is pretty nice. The food on base looks good, however it's a butterface situation. From the DFAC to the stuff at the PX, go offbase to eat. But the base itself is legit.
Marked 1 star off because the beach is closed and the food sucks. But still a recommended stop.
Office is not efficiently run. The waiting g area should be larger to accommodate guests instead of the other way around. The document gathering is tedious compared to other famcamps. Too much of a hassle to acquire a reservation. The office staff were not friendly and almost seemed annoyed that they had to work. Maybe understaffed? Why are they only opening up at 10am when most guests are early risers. It took 3 days for us to see a counter person to pay fees.
The phrase Veteran is tossed about a bit much.
Most Veterans cannot use.
Most Veterans didnot ' do the retirement', cannot use.
Most Veterans simply using the VA,
cannot use. Even incorporated in the system for health, accounted, cannot use.
So with accurate speech, this is for ACTIVE AND RETIRED VETERANS.
Exceptions? Ie: The hotdog vendor at the food court belonging to mwr/6thservice club. Never served in USA military. But currently on record with federal installation, often with no past to check.other then several years. LOOPHOLE.
No, Its not available, to simply say 'Veterans'. And Im sure you can understand the ire of that term being thrown around.
Active Retired and accounted family members. Civilian service Active and Retired and accounted family members.
No. Veteran, alone.defies accuracy. And creates a bit sarcasm.
Our camp host, Charlene, went above and beyond the call of duty to assist us. She made us feel cared for!
We showed up without reservations and didn't have such a good spot however we were extremely grateful for a place to rest after traveling from Southern California!
Wish I could actually give them a rating.any kind of rating, but if there was a star lower than a 1 it would be for their office management. They have a voice recording citing their office hours and I have tried contacting them at every time referenced for over a week to no avail! Nor does it allow you to leave a message.
Also gives an email address that apparently is also ignored. Why even bother with the appearance of an office? Pitiful! MINUS 1 STAR!
I called to make reservations. Like Patrick AFB you can't.
They are both show up, first come first serve.
This policy, deployed by base commanders through MWR effectively eliminates any Veteran outside the local geographic regions from using the MWR Camping Facilities as Congress Expanded on Jan 1 2020 to all disabled and retired veterans. You can not show up to the base "hoping" for a spot then go to a local campground because local campgrounds are booked up 6-12 months in advance! Most the civilian RV parks don't allow refund cancelations. So, if your not a local Active duty or Local Veteran you are virtually banned by the Park.
This law was expanded because the current force (abt 1.5M) doesn't use enough MWR facilities enough so congress was going to close them, including BX/PX/Commissary/Pools/Camping/MWR. Opening them to more Vets was the military solution for more use and save them from the Congressional AX. This is the last time I will try to use anything on bases, Let Congress close the whole MWR System and Facilities. Congratulations Base Commanders: you saved your facilities for your local active duty members and local Veterans - For the short term!

I was here in January and February this year and loved it so much I came back! The spot we were in last year was not vacant this time, but the one directly across from it was. The people here are very friendly, and although it is very different here than it was when we were here at the beginning of the year, it is still a great place to stay. It is much hotter and there are alot less people, it is still beautiful and a very nice famcamp.
We just stopped in for extending our stay a couple weeks. Jen was the one that helped us and she is awesome. She took time to explain everything about spending winter here and was very pleasant. We love MacDill Famcamp and the Tampa area.
As with all Fam Camps, this place was a good place to stay. Lots to do in Tampa. Unfortunately, it's ALL THE WAY at the end of the Base, and you have to drive FOREVER at 25mph to get ON/OFF the base. Nice sites. Good water pressure reliable power.
Do not camp here unless you have a death wish. The bugs the heat the atmosphere. Bacteria in the water. Just say no kids.
Let me start by saying that the Campground was clean and quiet. The beach had sign warning the water might have high levels of bacteria. Bio environmental said swim at your own risk. There are a lot of rules. Can not put a rug down because it will kill the grass (not very much grass here). We were told that we had to pick our rug up by the camp host but they never said anything to the campers. Rug and screen tents and pop up tents all over the camp grounds. Was told that only one vehicle and it must be parked in front of the RV. The rules do say 2 + the RV, it appears that people park wherever they want.
I did enjoy my visit here I’m just not sure if we will be back here!
Being retired military, MacDill FamCamp is another one of our favorite places to go to. It's right on the beach and has all the base resources available to us as a retired military family.
Rented a few items from the outdoor Rec/Marina
Debbie was so friendly and made the checkout & return process easy.
Rented a bike, 2 beach chairs & a beach umbrella.
Beach area is within walking distance from Outdoor Rec/Marina. The beach was very clean and a nice place to enjoy lunch.
Ive tried to speak on the phone with this camp multiple times to immediately be put on hold for extended periods of time at non busy times. I dont understand what is so difficult about answering the phone and providing needed information.
Apparently I still have to figure out the reservations process but this is a beautiful rv park
We love spending our winters at MacDill FamCamp. It takes a little time & effort to learn the seasonal reservations process, but we found it’s worth it compared to other campgrounds in Florida. Where else can you go for the price & amenities. We feel privileged to have this available to veterans and the people we have meet are outstanding. Military families take care of each other and we have really enjoyed our experiences here.
Campground is huge! MWR has a nice facility, boats, kayaks, rentals. Grounds could be better but the Mission comes first. I understand.
