Gainesville Community Playhouse reviews
16Great local theater! Came here to see Shrek - a wonderful interpretation! Truly a local gem where you can get front row seats without a huge cost to your wallet.
An ideal little community theatre! Lots of talent courtesy of being a University. They have put on some excellent shows. Some can be hit or miss, but I keep coming back.
It was ok problem with ac when we went but they gave us free drinks to compensate at least they try to make it up
It was an awesome experience! We went to the opening night of "Monty Python's SpamAlot". It had been many years since I had been to a play and I had not realized how much I had missed it. My face hurt from smiling so much! We'll be back real soon!
We just saw The Producers last night. The entire cast could almost go direct to Broadway and be the toast of the town. The two leads (well, you could say there's five with the secretary/receptionist/actor, the writer of Springtime for Hitler, and the director of same) had such combustible chemistry that I am surprised a massive cloud of happiness didn't form from stirring these wonderful performers together with the terrific book, music, set design, choreography, and direction. And the centerpiece of the show had to be Springtime for Hitler, or perhaps Max Bialystok's solo re-performance of the entire play from a jail cell. A pure delight. The show brought the audience to its feet in a long and exuberant standing ovation. Indeed, I think another curtain call was in order. What joy to experience such artistry within a five minute drive from my house in a small (but lovely) theater hard by a strip mall where the patrons park alongside Publix shoppers. I've been thinking recently about works that are better than they had to be, in movies, television, literature, and on the stage. The Producers certainly qualifies as a show that was so far beyond what it had to be for local theater that it deserves a long and joyous life to share this wonder with as many lovers of music, mayhem, and madcap comedy as possible.
Small Town theater. Sunset Village was not the best production we have seen there, but we'll done.
People there were very nice and the facilities are clean.
Not sure if there are two names to this building. Excellent layout lighting and smoke effects. Saw Oliver was a great show. This place takes considerable measures during covid to give mask and require them throughout the show
Has always been a great place to watch a show. A bit different now than in the past due to COVID but still very much enjoyed being back.
My husband and I enjoy going to the Playhouse we missed it during Covid and the first play we went to go see was this one called Fun Home.
It was a terrible play I didn’t like it at all but I stay do it unlike the four people that were sitting in my row they all got up together and left but my husband and I stayed the whole thing it was a terrible play during this time that we are all going through the anger the loud anger was not appropriate for this time.
I am sure the people that left from my row went out to the lobby to try and get their money back but we will be back we enjoy the plays there but this play scratch it off of your list if you haven’t seen it don’t see it wait for a better one.
I love GCP and have for years. Sorry they can't put on shows currently due to Covid-19.
Love this year's lineup. They need money for renovations so we donate above the ticket prices.
The first time he was there. We saw Grease. The cast did an awesome job! We will definitely go back)!
I had a fabulous time what I thought! Until it was intermission and I was told that my “singing along” was not ok.and it was awful and should be taken else where. I’ve never said someone’s voice was awful or needed help nor would I consider myself qualified it’s not ok! We’re singing along with a play that has songs aka GREASE. I’m here to have a fun time and enjoy fun times! I am sorry if I ruined your time with my voice and passion ️?
We went to go see grease. This was our first time going there. Family friend of ours had a family member in the cast.was an amazing show will definitely going back for others. Very well run.
Saw Grease - wonderful production bringing the audience back to 1959. Hard to believe this is community theater and not a professional production.
