Golden Host Resort Sarasota reviews
17 I stayed here in November for 4 nights. I would have rated it 5 stars if not for the following issues:
1. A/C was either freezing or not working. Literally frost on my window but I couldn’t find an employee the first night to ask for more blankets. Fine. Whatever. (I’m going to leave out several smaller issues and get to the big one.)
2. The final night (Saturday) of my stay, half of the hotel lost power including to my room. The front desk person was in total darkness and said she had called for help hours earlier but no one had shown up. Eventually a truck appeared and worked all night to no avail. Room had no electricity, was pitch black, no AC, no ability to check out, cold shower in the morning, couldn’t dry my hair, no outlets worked to charge phone, nada!
I was told the manager would reach out to all of those affected. Another guest was able to switch rooms to one with power. I was not given this option as I was told she had no idea what rooms did/did not have power.
Well, I never heard from said manager despite texting, emailing, and calling.
I disputed only PART of my credit card charge as a result. That was denied and I was told to work it out with the manager. Really? The same manager who has never responded to any of my messages? Ok, credit card company (you have now made my naughty list too).
A simple phone call would have gone a long way. But to receive ZERO communication or even a measly offer of a $50 credit, clearly shows this business gives ZERO effs.
I filed a complaint with the BBB just to be told they refuse to refund any part of my bill.
It’s honestly the principle of the matter. To not get an explanation or even an apology for the major inconvenience, well, I guess that’s just the way this place rolls.
I would have had some great things to say about this quirky place but now I have to put them on blast for totaling ghosting me after my stay. I have them ample opportunity to not get blasted but here we are in January and clearly they don’t care.
If you still choose to stay here, expect that you may or may not have AC, or electricity for that matter, and you WILL be charged in full regardless.
The staff were friendly enough but whoever manages/owns this place SUCKS!
0/10 for management
0/10 for communication
8/10 for cool Tiki lounge
5/10 for value (if not for above, would have given 8/10)
Very cute, homey feel! Had great interactions during both checking in & checking out with Nicki’s & Carmen:)
The hotel is in a nice, quiet area. The facilities are all newly updated, parking is easy, and the tiki bar is incredibly convenient. Plus, Carmen and Destiny were very friendly and helpful at check-in!
Room was acceptable. Partly sold on having the oldest tiki bar in Florida. Bar was seedy, bartender surly, and drinks were dismal. Overrated.
Destiny F provided great and amazing service, she was patient to helping us find two rooms last minute, and was very supportive. She listened to our concerns, and was very optimistic. I highly recommend her, and she provided the best support ever.
We are from North Dakota and this place blew our mind… the sweetest Lady Destiny F checked us in explained fun things for the kids to do around… she was absolutely amazing! Would very highly recommend this place if your looking for a great place to come have fun and relax alone or with family! And if your really lucky Destiny will help you out as well
A fantastic place to wind down after a round trip.
Motel with history and attached to the oldest Tiki Hut in Florida.
An oasis with a very nice pool area; only the daily endless loop of Hawaiian sounds gets annoying after a short while.
The staff couldn't be friendlier and more attentive, I especially fell in love with manager Carmen.
With so much beauty, one is only too happy to forgive the somewhat quirky way of dealing with room cleaning requests; somehow it fits there.
In short: we will definitely be back!
I can just simply say thank you to the angel employee named Destiny, who answered the phone for us that fateful evening. We got a room at Sleep Inn, in sarasota by the airport. It was disgusting and scary, to say the least. Druggie everywhere, rooms were rotting, to say the least.
We immediately left that hotel where the employee tells us there is no way to get a refund even tho we walked into our room and straight out. But Miss Destiny at Golden Coast was empathetic and compassionate to our experience and turned my husband and I special night around. Marie, who was with her, was steller as well. These women need to be cherished in this line of work. Because they are a huge part of any businesses success. I will share with everyone that it's must stop, along with anyone's travels, and meet great human beings!
Thank you, ladies. Blessings to you
Can the owner Parth Shaha please reach out to me. I'm worried about my safety if I leave a review here
Only reason I rate the rooms a 3 is for the fact that although stated as recently remodeled (not sure how long ago) our room had a horrible wet, damp, and musty smell. I got home and could smell it on my clothes as well. Except for that issue rooms were nice, clean and beds were comfortable. We stayed in room 302. Maybe address issue of the horrible musty, wet and damp smell in the room? Should not smell like that even with being remodeled! Must have water accumulated somewhere. Wonder if other rooms smell this way? Cute place otherwise. Great service and management.
Do not stay here. Stayed here because it gave me a lot of points on my Southwest card, but it was not worth it. Rooms were dirty, door did not want to shut (had to slam it every time), there was no remote for the TV, the electricity was out for an entire night. The list goes on. When we left in the morning on our last day, the electricity was still out. Also the towels are from Walmart.
We stayed here recently for a private event. The rooms were cute. I love the retro fridge and microwave. The beds were comfortable. They didn't have enough outlets in my opinion and figuring out the overhead lights was confusing. The shower curtains are not long enough, so the floor got soaked every time we showered. The pool are was great. It has a Tiki island vibe which we loved. All the staff was great and overall we really enjoyed our stay.
Fantastic resort with great staff! Centrally located to everything you are looking to adventure to!
The good reviews are lies. The bad reviews are accurate. If I could give zeros stars I would. Checked in and my room smelled like basement and mildew. They changed our room. None of the outlets work and front desk won’t do anything about it. Came back to the room this evening after hours at beach and exhausted and my key doesn’t work. Called front desk and the lady was disgustingly rude and hung up on me. She brought me a key and slammed it in my hand. Didn’t say anything when I said thank you. Do not suggest at all. No matter the cost.
Stayed at this hotel as an absolute last resort and would rather sleep on a park bench before I stayed here again. The first room we went into didn’t have working lights and the room had an overwhelming stench of mold/mildew. (I get that it’s Florida and humidity is an issue, but do better) We switched rooms and I’m pretty sure this room was not even remotely cleaned. At this point it was nearing 2 am so we decided it might be scarier to see what the third room would look like if we switched again. There was stains all over the sheets, floors were sticky and left our socks black, walls were coated in grime, shower drain was clogged so when you showered there was some ankle deep murky water? I wasn’t expecting 5 star luxury accommodations, but I guess even a clean room was too much to ask for?
Stayed here for 3 nights. Dealt with a few minor issues right away - water pooling in the shower and a missing cord on the bedside lamp requiring me to screw and unscrew the bulb to turn the light on and off. On the last night the hotel had power issues. This resulted in no A/C, wifi, tv, or light in the bedroom. Talked to the overwhelmed hotel employee and was promised a refund. Called daily for half a week and was given the runaround - finally reached the “manager” and was offered $20. Didn’t expect a full refund, but $20 is not the difference between a hotel room with no light and A/C and one without.
The worst hotel experience I have ever had. The room and shower were dirty. There was blood and urine on the comforter. The air conditioner was loud. We are non smokers and they put us by the smoking deck. We stayed 2 days and left. The manager said she would charge us for the entire 7 days after making a complaint about the room. Do not stay st this hotel.
