Just wanted to safely dispose of insulin needles, and according to Hills Co. Website this hospital is a drop off center. Person at info desk had no idea what to do, ER said talk to security. Lady at security desk was THE RUDEST person I have encountered I'm awhile. I will never go to this hospital for care if this is how people treat you!

On 10/17/23 at 10: 30 am I walked into ER with chest pains thinking I was having a heart attack. I was brought right and with in 2 minutes of being there I had a heart attack. They brought me back to life after 2 minutes. I want to Thank Bob the ER manager and the whole team that saved my life. If each and every one of you was not there I would not be here. And to the girl in white holding my hand once I came back to life, thank you! You were my Angel!
Thank you all from the bottom of my Heart!

The mental health patients are treated like garbage in this facility by the staff and doctors. The general attitude towards patients who suffered trauma and mental health is dehumanizing and degrading. I would never send a person in need to this facility.

We arrive with a child 10 years old who was blood in his head after an accident playing. After almost three hours waiting to be assistant the nurse was very rude when he called to us. I don’t understand if the broken head is an Emergency or not, I’m confused.

Please do not take any family member needing Mental Health to this hospital. To our dismay, we were told different stories about their care. Their website states that they have a psychiatrist on staff at all times. HCA West location could not provide us with answers and when we pushed for information, we were told that their psychiatrist was contracted and didn't work weekends. Notes were left for him that would be read on Monday. There were also supposed to be 3 group sessions a day and that also did not happen. Medications were changed without consulting the family members doctors, even after being told they were incorrect. Also, dietary needs were not met, which caused physical side effects. This facility is understaffed, and it shows in their care. I will thank a few nurses that tried to fix the dietary issues. Just touring a facility doesn't give you all the answers. Do your research.

I am recently homeless (escaped an abusive situation) and bipolar/manic depressive. I admitted myself (for depression and alcoholism) to a local HCA ER (that particular hospital doesn’t have a psych unit) and was transferred here. I should note that I am a nurse and have worked in the psych unit of another HCA hospital before. First, the good. The clinical staff was ok. They gave me my proper meds on time and the nurses and techs treated me well. The beds were fairly comfortable as far as psych unit beds go. They offered several groups throughout the day, including an AA meeting and a meeting with a pastor (both once a week). The food was also pretty good. Much better than most hospitals. The bad: they have no outside patio, so you are stuck inside for your whole stay. There are not many books available and only one TV room. What’s really bad is they house those who are violently psychotic with those who are not. There were three instances where someone had to be restrained for fighting with others. At the HCA facility I worked at, they had two psych units: a psychosis unit for those who were violent and another for those who were just suicidal. They also have a large enclosed courtyard with a 1/2 basketball court which they take patients to daily, weather permitting. They also had a large selection of books for patients to choose from. I saw ONE book at West Tampa and I asked for books several times. Worst of all, I told the social worker multiple times that I needed to be discharged to a homeless shelter or rehab. Today, they discharged me and ordered me a lift without telling me what shelter I was going to. Turns out, they never told the shelter I was coming either. It turned out the shelter had no beds and when I told them where I came from, the shelter worker sighed and said “that hospital does this to people all the time. You are the second one we’ve had to turn away today alone. ” Thankfully, a friend from out of state messaged me and asked me how I was doing. When I told her what happened, she immediately booked a bus ticket for me to come stay with her. As a nurse I have NEVER discharged a patient without confirming that the place they were going had room for them. Many people with psychiatric disorders are homeless and there is NO EXCUSE for them dumping people like that. If it weren’t for my friend, I’d be sleeping on a bench on one of Tampa’s worst neighborhoods, which is even more dangerous if you are a female. Why are you putting patients in danger like that? I could’ve been assaulted or worse! Also, you only get two minutes with the MD and NO one on one therapy. Avoid this place if you can.

My son was admitted in the mental department at the hospital and his meds were changed and my son is doing better. Also the social worker Marisel K.kept always in touch with me and always returned my calls back. She kept me informed with my son's health. I asked my son how they treated him he said everyone there treated him really good and the food was amazing. Thanks for the hard work and dedication you do for the patient's in your hospital.

Terrible experience and certainly concerning! I had to call the ambulance, while being at work. I could barley walk and was experiencing severe pain. The experience was terrible as soon as I got in the ambulance it was extremely HOT. I asked them if the A/C was on and was told it wasn’t working.when suddenly I feel hot air coming in even more. The driver ended up turning on the heater as I tell one of the paramedics I was literally drenched in sweat and I can hardly breathe. I was told to control my breathing but I couldn’t. I start hyperventilating at this point my hands feel numb and my fingers were curling up on their own. We get to the hospital go in through the ambulance entrance, I hear a patient yelling they refused to sign the convent form and a staff at this location says put him back in the waiting room he’ll have to wait 4 hours to be seen. Then I ask am I going to have to wait that long? Because I can’t wait that much longer and mention my chest pain and the numbness and sharp pains going down my left arm and leg at this point and that staff member then proceeded to tell one of the paramedics to pick a wall due to the long wait and apologizes. I tell them I feel like I’m in labor to please help and they said unfortunately I would have to wait. I then tell them I will be leaving to seek medical attention else where. And all they did was tell me before I leave that I had to sign a form stating I was refusing medical attention and YES I REFUSED TO SIGN DUE THEM NOT being in “able” to attend me sooner not because I didn’t want medical attention. How could I possibly stay after hearing how terrible they were treating a patient and them taking my symptoms lightly. This is truly scary and unacceptable. Please avoid coming here if possible.

My fiancee Michael was sent there from Gracepoint (last year) and they helped him out greatly! Fed him good too.lol. But, I'm disappointed they only gave him 1 prescription of Paxil. As of now he really needs it.

I’m writing this review as a visitor. 50% chance the nurses are going to be rude and only a few with actual bedside manner 100% chance the security officer is rude, her name is Violet. Got there at 4PM for our 45 minute visitation time, the 1 security officer took 20 minutes to get to us. She Walked us to the unit and as I stepped in the door something happened with a patient and we were all kicked out.
