Herschel's Scratch Kitchen, New Port Richey FL

Great food but the atmosphere inside is not comfortable whatsoever. It's pretty cramped inside especially in you use the restroom servers roll your silverware right next to the men's restroom. Yeah.

I absolutely love this place! The food is great, service is amazing! Cammie is a great server, we ask for her every time!

What a treasure this place is! The food and service were terrific.
The location has a lovely outdoor dining area as well as indoor, where we ate our meal.
The waitstaff and the owner, whom we were fortunate enough to meet, were very pleasant.
Portions are substantial.
It's worth the drive if you aren't a local.
Parking on the street or just down the road is a public parking lot.

I want to look at the prices in the menu but alas no prices. You have to look online to see the menu with prices

Stopped in while visiting family. My husband and I enjoyed the food so much. The owner came to our table and had a nice chat with us. Made the experience even better.

We went on a Sunday, so there was a crowd but we only waited about 20 minutes. It was worth it. I'm definitely stopping by every time we come back to Florida

Great place, a little pricey but it's worth it. We sat outside and enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere of downtown New Port Richey and watched the passersby. Would definitely eat here again and it's reachable by golf cart

Food was absolutely delicious
My friend had a version of their eggs Benedict and raved about it. I had the BLT with fried green tomatoes and potato salad on the side and it was phenomenal. Good service and the weather to sit outside was perfect. Can't wait to be back in Florida to eat here again. A must stop in downtown new port Richey.

This morning was our first time dining at this establishment. It had nice indoor and outdoor seating. The first strike was the menu. The majority of the menu did not have prices. The food was almost room temperature when it reached our table. The owner/manager was complaining to the wait staff about an employee who did not return his text on their availability for work. It was brought to his attention that the text was sent to the wrong employee. And he used the wrong name in the text. Then when he was told that the employee was in the hospital. He was upset that they didn’t let him know. Not a relaxing environment at all. This experience was our first, and last. We won’t be dining at Herschel’s ever again.

Nice breakfast place with great food. Had grits with veges, cheese and eggs. The server was so nice and helpful.

Great high quality food. Really flavorful and prepared nicely. They have a good selection. The fried green tomatoes are very good and so are their burgers.

Had to cancel a boating day with friends due to weather. We still all wanted to get together so we decided on brunch. So glad we did! There were 8 of us plus a child and a baby/toddler. Wait time was almost nil, we had a great table on the patio, service was great-especially considering we played “musical chairs” and changed seats a few times. Food was phenomenal. Shrimp and grits, biscuits and gravy, waffle with banana and Nutella, corned beef hash and Benedict. Oh My! Lots of clean plates and Mimosas, Bloody Mary’s, Prosecco, soda and iced tea. We all enjoyed our time together. It was a little noisy because there was a bike fest on Main Street, but GOOD FOR YOU NEW PORT RICHEY! And good for US Herschel’s Scratch Kitchen!

Waiters and waitresses were courteous and responsive, the food was seasoned delightfully, and being able to sit outside under a patio made the meal enjoyable.
Having an online menu for prices takes away the ability to sit down for a meal without your phone in hand, but it makes sense as to why they have that system.

Today was the worst experience I have ever had at a restaurant. I frequent Herschels for brunch and have been going to this location since it was Johnny Grits. I came in with my family and ordered an omelet for myself. Upon taking the first bite, there was a piece of metal in my mouth. I have gone to restaurants and have had hair or even egg shells in my food but never in my life have I bit into metal. I understand mistakes happen but upon going inside to show the staff/ manager it was not handled as a restaurant should. I had to ask to speak with the manager after the fact although I assumed that one would just come out to apologize. Instead the server came to the table and brought the check although the manager said my omelet would be removed from the bill it was still there which shows lack of proper communication. I am still upset mainly because I could've given a bite of my meal to my 3 year old. The metal was large enough to cause a medical emergency for anyone. There was no genuine concern due in part to not coming to me after the incident to apologize or telling my server (if she hadnt indeed already been told since it took her awhile to come back to my table after i showed them the metal). I paid the bill and although I got an apology after the fact by staff, I will never be back.

Just ate here for the first time today. I'm on vacation and wanted mimosas. Didn't realize I was going to have the best breakfast of my life. Fried chicken Benedict.amazing

It’s nearly impossible to praise this restaurant enough. They’re an amazing cut above the rest in quality and service. When they say fresh, they mean it! Keep up the great work everyone. My whole family loves you!

I don't like tomatoes. I have NEVER liked tomatoes. My wife got the friend green tomatoes and they might be one of the most delicious things I've ever eaten.

I wanted something simple that wouldnt have leftovers so I got the chicken tenders basket. The fries were phenomenal, perfectly cooked and amazingly seasoned. The chicken tenders were delicious as well!

Our server (I hate that I can't remember her name, but that's my bad memory and not her lack of telling us) was fantastic. Our drinks were never empty, she answered any question we had, and if she couldn't answer, she found someone who could.

My only regret is that we are from Illinois and not Florida locals. Because I'm already craving those fried green tomatoes.

My daughter and I were huge fans of Herschel's until our last visit on September 29. Due to their change of hours and not being open in the evenings, we had not been in a while. Previously we had made this almost a weekly go to spot. On this return visit, the quality of food was below average. We were also charged for added pickles and a tiny (not full) plastic cup of buffalo sauce. I feel like they may have new management since last spring. If so, it has definitely been not moving in the positive direction. Definitely will not be returning. So unfortunate.
