Hickey Creek Wildlife and Environmental Area reviews
10I made the mistake of thinking I'd go to nature for a walk on Sunday morning. I had never been to this park, that was a big mistake. Apparently, this is where all the looney's are let loose to perform all sorts of religious rituals. Forget trying to enjoy nature and walk at a peaceful park, I could hear yelling and weird crazy delusional voices all over the park. Forget parking, it's taken up by a church group that decides to have services there. They couldn't confine it to their own building so they had to encroach on everyone else's lives on Sunday morning as well I guess. So much for the public park being used for a park. Now, its basically an outdoor insane asylum scattered all over the park. Looney's aside, Unfortunately, this park isn't that great. So, that was an unpleasant experience.
This huge park is comanaged by the county and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. It's a big site that, according to the website, "consists of a variety of habitats including palmetto-oak scrub, pine flatwoods, and seasonal wetlands. Views of scenic Hickey Creek can be enjoyed from the trail and overlook areas. The ecosystem presently supports the threatened Florida Scrub-Jay and gopher tortoises. "
Good hiking trails and there is a kayak launching point though it's a good walk from the parking area. This is Florida. Keep an eye out for wildlife and definitely don't feed them. Never hike alone and always bring a friend. Stay on the trails and don't litter!
Saw a couple of gators while paddleboarding. Beautiful creek with lots of vegetation worth the walk to get to the creek for a paddle board
Plenty of diverse trails flat to slightly hilly.
From waterside to Palm/Pine habitats.
Kayak & Canoe access as well
Took an early morning hike with a friend along the palmetto trails that lead down to the water. Has bathrooms at the start of the trail and picnic areas nestled in the woods at the start and also at the end of the trail. Check it out and enjoy.
Super well maintained primitive hiking trails.however very easily flooded and may not be able to complete the entire loop during wet season. We went today and could only get about halfway through before we had to turn back.
$5 for parking and no pets allowed
This is a very pretty and well maintained park. There are three trails and me and my kids enjoyed a great hike. The paths are clearly marked and we will revisit this park for our Sunday hikes.
Looks like a great place to Kayak, but it's a good walk to get to access. Lots of open walking trails - dont forget sunscreen and something to drink!
Get your hiking boots on, there are different levels of hiking trails, even for kids. Don't forget your water and sun protective gear We all enjoyed the fishing area pier views. There is also a canoe launch down the trail. (No bikes & No pets) Great Bird viewing
Fantastic "hidden" park with lots of trails. The park is home to many native plants and wildlife throughout.
