Higgs Memorial Beach Park, Key West FL

I don't know what I was thinking coming to Key West, FL without doing my full research, it was a spontaneous trip that really came out of no where while I was on my way for a morning jog. I expected more, I expected it to be more scenic, not that there wasn't absolutely beautiful scenes, and I still had a lot of fun, but the beaches was not impressive, and I am a beach enthusiast.

It's ok. If you want time by the water then it's good, but bring water shoes. Rocky, lots of seaweed if you walk out into the water, and barely chest deep or past the sea wall post probably 60 yards out.

White sandy beach with swimming area and fishing pier. Bathrooms and showers are right on the beach. Rentals for chairs, umbrellas, kayaks and paddle boards are available. Lots of free parking!

Quiet, warm, cool breezes. Not crowded when we were there, so really relaxing. But there was a funny odor, rather unpleasant.

There was a lot of algae when I was there in May so you could only enter the water off the pier! Other than that it’s a decent beach!

A little cleaner than Smathers Beach, had access to park and a Bistro. Found a few local homeless laying around the beach. Same issues as Smathers Beach.

Great spot to swim and layout. You can rent chairs and an umbrella for $25 for the day just make sure to get here around 11am to get a good spot. I don’t think it’s technically legal to drink on the beach but we saw several people with coolers and beers. There is some seaweed along shore and some rocks you’ll need to avoid to get out to the sandy area in the water but there is also a pier you could use. I see other people complaining about the seaweed but come on… you are at a beach. It’s beautiful. There is also a restaurant right in the beach that is a good spot for lunch.

Key west doesn't have beaches, but sun and sand are very plentiful. Get a libation, soak up some rays and enjoy island life.

Hydrate and protect your skin, kw sun is super strong.

There is quite a bit of seaweed or something before you get on and it's very rocky. I wouldn't go again. I'm a tourist to key West so I may not be the best judge

Very cool point to walk to in the morning to watch the sunrise, but I would not recommend spending your beach time here. Lots of roosters and interesting folk.

Not great for swimming at all! If you wanted to come to swim this is not the place. There are so many large and jagged boulders around 7-10 feet in the water that prevent you from from getting to the sandy swim area. If you wanted to brave the boulders there was maybe 6 feet wide boulders that vary greatly in height and smoothness, step to step could be a foot difference! There was no warning of this, I am so thankful I did not do the typical run and jump into the water because I would have been hurting! My group has to walk on the pier and use the stairs to get to sand.

If you are just wanting to sun bathe then this is a fine beach for that.

Access to the beach was bad. The beach area around it was littered. We think out pups to play and that was there only nice thing.

Great mid-sized beach. Wasn’t very crowded any time I went there. Salute! Is a great beach side restaurant located right there. Great snorkeling under the pier. Plenty of cool fish.

Very clear and calm waters with a lot of wildlife able to be seen while snorkeling. Mostly sand underwater without much high seaweed or coral to encroach walking.

Take caution when entering the water as there are rocks by the entrances which can cause a trip hazard or hurt your feet.

A sign at the entrance of the waters warns of Manowar Jellyfish and Sea Urchins capable of causing harm or fatal harm to sting victims. Use caution when walking through underwater vegetation.

I did see a very small Jellyfish and a couple of Sea Urchins in the water within 30 feet of the pier after the first entrance to the water; about 25 feet from the first water entrance and 30 feet from the pier at a point.

The beach is a delight the sky is full of stars at night it is so gorgeous and in the daytime The view is really beautiful I would recommend this beach it has clean restrooms I am most definitely going to come back again it has a beautiful part for the kids
