Had them drop the pan and change the filter and fluid. They took pics for me and saved the filter. Reasonable price and honest good work. Highly recommend and be back should I need their services.

Jim Dowell Transmission is one of the most honest businesses I've had to deal with. I wish all auto shops were as good as this shop.especially when you have a daughter going to school across the country and they have car problems. I live in Illinois and my Daughter goes to school in Alabama.

My daughter was traveling from Florida back to college in Alabama when she started having problems with her car (2012 Nissan Sentra). The car would not go over a few miles per hour when hitting the gas. We had it towed 100 miles to this shop and they looked at it the following morning. As I feared, it was determined that the car needed a new transmission. But they advised against replacing it as the car was very rusty underneath and they could not guarantee that there would not be more damage as they started to take it apart. With this advise we decided to junk the car. They found the best price available in the area to Junk the car and gave the cash to my daughter even before I could get the title shipped to them.

He was absolutely amazing. This was not a fun time in my life. I was scared to death over what was going to happened financially. My problem was not cut and dry, so he gave me multiple ideas to try before replacing my transmission. He could have just replace the whole transmission for $6,000 and moved on. I just went to Jim Dowell transmission for the 2nd time in 30 years. They are every bit as efficient, enjoyable, and easy to get along with as they were when they worked on my 1966 Corvette. You couldn't ask for a more honest and appreciative crew.

The transmission control module went bad in my Chevrolet Silverado and I looked everywhere for a replacement and it turns out that part is on national back order. On a recommendation I called James and we talked about the hard to get part come to find out he had one sitting on the shelf. About 7 months ago, the Nissan Altima I had just bought completed broke down on me. Being a younger female in a new city, I was worried about finding an honest, fair mechanic. My father helped research transmission shops and we decided to go with Jim Dowell as they have exceptional reviews. I can confidently say they were the kindest, easiest and most understanding when it came to my cars issues as well as the price of repair. I was kept in the loop on when my car arrived to shop, etc. They even kept my father who is out of state updated on where they were with the work. I have personally known James the owner of Jim Dowell Transmissions for over 20 years. I know what a fair and honest man he is and the business he operates. I am also a mechanic, although I am not currently working in the field now. So, I also know James' business at the professional level not just as a customer, that is why when I needed to have the clutch replaced in my ST the only place I would let work on it is Jim Dowell Transmission. James lined up all the parts and kept me informed every step of the way. Justin did the work on my vehicle and was so meticulous that he saw all the upgrades and tweaks I have done to my vehicle and put everything back EXACTLY the way it was when I brought it in for service. My vehicle was in and out in one day, the shifts are silky smooth and the power transfer is better than ever. I searched all around Sarasota for a shop that worked with manual transmissions. I called him off of my buddy's reccomendation, and lemme tell you what. I called these guys and we talked on the phone for about 20minutes, he asked me what was wrong with my unit, and all the options that were available for me. He was able to save me A LOT of money and valuable time because he had a fully rebuilt to the T transmission for my jeep. When I got to his shop they were extremely warm welcoming and I appreacted that due to my young age, he was extremely fair in the price for my unit, and bench tested it Infront of me (which being a mechanic myself I was HIGHLY impressed). I will reccomend Jim Dowell to ANYBODY that brings their transmission issues to my attention. I will ALWAYS be a customer from this day forward hands down!

OUTSTANDING SERVICE. This business could have 1000000 stars if possible. I had a very rough experience with aamco, afterwards i called Jim Dowells and was immediately greeted with a kind, understanding and helpful man named james. Wonderful guy, very welcoming- clearly states every cost and time frame and didn’t buffer in either! Not only was he great but so were all the other guys! Justin and Donny were the guys out there working on my van and were super knowledgeable and friendly. These guys know their stuff! I highly highly recommend this place for any vehicle! Also a note for the ladies- as a young female, i am ALWAYS treated like i am dumb and just brushed away by auto people. NOT HERE! They were really fantastic and explained things to me without making me feel dumb. The shop is clean, clutter free, and i just can’t stress enough how wonderful they are!
