Masamune Japanese Restaurant reviews
18 Do not recommend!
Underwhelming
Small portions for a high price and very slow and poor service
Took 2 hours for a couple rolls and had to ask for water several times
Waitress Natalie didn’t come by to check on us or let us know there would be delays
The food wasn’t tasty and rolls are very small
Waitress offered alcohol to my 13 year old daughter
Very unhappy with the experience
Everything was EXCELLENT. We got 2 hand rolls and 2 curry and everything came out amazing. The waiter, an older gentleman, was so sweet and the service was quick considering it’s Valentine’s Day. We’re definitely coming back again!
Literally such an amazing place to be got some miso ramen and soup and the food is so delicious and comforting. 10's across the board
I went to this location for the first time after finding them on Instagram by accident. The owner of the Instagram is so amazing, and they even liked a few of the photos I posted of the location the first time I went. Which leads me TO the first time I went. I arrived having no idea what to really expect except Japanese food, and I WAS NOT disappointed. The servers are all SO friendly, the food is presented in SUCH an appealing and beautiful way, and the cherry on top? The prices are AMAZING, especially for the portion sizes they serve. I have been here MULTIPLE times since I found this location, and although it is easy to miss amongst the busy street of Federal, it is 100% worth stopping at. I HIGHLY suggest stopping in for some GOOD food, pleasant vibes, and overall worthwhile eating experience! Thank you for making every trip here worth it, Masamune!
Best kept secret. Gone twice already and loved it. Good O-Toro. Great traditional Japanese and cool modern, I want to say "street fare" style food. Great selection of brews as well.
Ordered two sushi rolls. One tuna roll. They told me 30 minutes got there and 45 minutes and they told me another 20 minutes because they got busy. I go there two to three times a week but I will not be going anymore. Waste of time in the food is not that great
A place so nice, had to visit twice.
The place is the epitome of a Japanese hole-in-the-wall: slightly grungy, kitsch interior, coupled with excellent food and service. Specials do vary a bit (and that's why they have a whiteboard) but there's a solid selection of plates of all kinds: sushi, noodles, katsu, and more.
And they've got Japanese beers, which is nice. Definitely worth a visit if you're into East Asian and Japanese cuisine.
If you want authentic Japanese, this is where it’s at. Don’t come here for no California rolls! Get the real-deal-straight-from-Japan experience!
EXCELLENT QUALITY ️
I am Japanese and have been to Japan. I'm telling you this is the closest you will get. I have yet to try their ramen, but the sushi is incredible. The owner is also Japanese! Which was a lovely surprise & was able to speak Japanese. I had a great experience. They place is small but has a sushi bar in the back and plenty of room for parking!
The Onigiri with Bonito flakes and Miso is absolutely amazing, the best I've ever had. I can only order it from Masamune now with just how good it is, no other restaurant can come close to meeting the same quality and taste of these two items. I would also recommend the fried chicken here, it has a lovely texture and isn't too greasy or strong in taste.
I've never eaten in the restaurant but their takeout is fantastic, extremely good quality and service every time. I can't recommend Masamune enough, they've quickly become my favourite place to eat from.
I would give ten stars if it was possible, thank you so much to the staff and owner for such good and comforting food. I always look forward to being able to eat here again, after I'm healed from surgery I'll be sure to dine in!
I would totally recommend going here if you're looking for delicious, authentic Japanese food. The staff is very nice and it's just generally a nice place to dine in. They had fast service and very unique and filling food.
(I had onigiri and it was delicious!)
Food is very mid, ceviche was really bad,
Fried Sweet potato was normal potato,
Portion size is very small
I give this place like a 5,6 out of 10
The best sushi and sashimi I have ever eaten. This place is amazing. I highly recommend all sushi lovers make it here to enjoy their fish, fresh from Japan. Shima Aji, Fluke, Madai, Scallop, Uni, Big Oyster. What an incredible experience!
Food was great. Service was terrible. Took 45 minutes to get complete meal. Waitress had too much to do kept forgetting parts of our order. She was very good at avoiding eye contact with patrons. In general very poor attitude. Can’t say enough about the food Need better help
Absolutely disgusted with our order. 18.00$ for six, SIX paltry razor thin pieces of tuna, a rice-based dish-with NO RICE? Never ordering from this place again.
Great quality fish and lots of variety. Service was amazing. Natalie was professional and super nice.
Great Sake selection.
We will be going back.
How have I missed this place? It's only a few minutes from where I usually stay and the food is amazing and unique! Will try to add a few photos when I have a chance.
The restaurant has an unassuming exterior and plenty of parking. They open late and have a huge variety of options - and they bring this giant hand-written board of "specials" which I highly recommend perusing.
We had the "Japanese" style raw oysters, which are one of my gf's favorite styles, whitefish and yellowtail sashimi (I lean toward the yellowtail as better), spicy conch salad (very good), miso soup, a "real" snow crab califiornia roll (OK), shrimp & veggie tempura (delicious), and Chrysanthemum tempura (which was the leaves, not the flower and very, very good). The Chrysanthemum is worth trying, it reminds me of another restaurant that used to make parsley tempura. It sounds really strange but it makes a lightly crunchy, maybe fresh potato chip, kind of tempura. It is fairly oily but worth sharing at the table.
Staff is very friendly and I can't wait to get back to try out some of the other menu items. I wish it was open for lunch but I think this is going to be one of my anchor restaurants that I'll return to over and over when I'm in town.
This place is to be awesome with the freshest sushi. Now this place sucks with poor quality sushi! The service here is amazing as always! Hands down to the service staff. Hands down to the new owners.
Btw this restaurant is under new ownership, management & chefs.
VERY POOR QUALITY FOOD BUT GREAT SERVICE. Only enjoyed the sushi & green tea ice cream.
