We have been with Medishare for 7 years and have found their services to be exactly as advertised. With many of the bad reviews on here it seems people don't really understand how the sharing works. For the first 5 years, we never had enough expenses to have them shared. We are an older, self-employed couple, so yes our monthly cost to belong is more than many. It may feel painful to pay $500-$600 per month for services and then never get any payback. But, this is a huge savings over traditional insurance which would have cost us 3 times that monthly, and really, only provides a free yearly exam. You still have to meet your deductibles and make the co-pays. The out-of-pocket maximums on traditional insurance are very high now, so if you do the math, you will come out WAY ahead using Medishare. I'll admit, I was nervous when we eventually needed them when my husband developed a-fib. He required multiple procedures that ended in a heart ablation. This is a common procedure, but I was shocked when I saw how expensive all of it was. Over $100k in bills, and they paid it all after we met our annual portion. They even had someone assigned to us to walk us through everything. I can't say enough good things about them.

One of the convenient features we enjoy is the free tele-doc services. It's fantastic when you're traveling and need something minor, or if your doctor's office is just too busy to fit you in. We've used it a couple of times and were able to quickly get the antibiotics we needed.

We continue to use Medishare as we have saved many thousands of dollars over our 7 years, which has been a big help in us being able to get to retirement more comfortably. We're not there yet, but will be in a few years. But for now, we will stay with their program until we qualify for Medicare as long as we can get the doctors we need and they continue as they have. This company has been a blessing.

Our family have been members for several years with no major expenses so seemed to be a good deal. Then when we incurred $40k in expenses and Medi-NOshare found a way to only share $900. We completed all requested forms, some multiple times, then given a case number and extension to call. They never returned a call or email. Total lack of communication on their end. We have yet to receive an explanation why they are not sharing as promised. Very disappointing. We are going elsewhere.

DO NOT DO IT. I have been a member for nearly 10 years and have never really used it. Then this year, broke my ankle and required surgery and they have been nothing but a pain to deal with. I have had to call them every 2-3 weeks since August and still nothing seems to be getting done. Everytime I call and talk with somebody new, I am given different information, yet still nothing gets done. Save your self the stress and head ache and go somewhere else.

I can not say enough about Medi-Share. Having a diagnosis of Prostate cancer was bad enough. Medi-share helped walk me through the entire process and after surgery and proton therapy, which they did cover. I am cancer free. Thank you Medi-share and my care team

WARNING: DO NOT USE MEDISHARE! Use a normal insurance company or Samaritans Ministry. Take all of the one-star reviews you read here seriously.

UPDATE: After over 5 months of trying to speak with someone with authority at medishare and after having to physically go down to their Colorado Springs office, I finally received a call from the "operations manager. " After a long conversation where she over-used the terms "legal" and "unable" she essentially told me what everyone else at medishare has been telling me for the last 5 months - "there is nothing we can do.you should have just paid the hospital bill in cash rather than submitting to medishare. " Now we owe $5600 rather than $3600.

I live in Colorado Springs in close proximity to Medi-share, a "Christian Organization. " In July, I had a $3600 ER bill so I contacted Medi-share to see if they would cover any of the bill. They said yes, and so we submitted the bill. When we received the updated ER bill with our insurance payment deducted from the total - they took $2000 off of the hospital's "INSURANCE RATE" amount - $8000. So now instead of a $3600 bill we have a $6000 bill. Nobody at Medi-share is willing to help us - they just say their hands are tied. We've been trying to figure this out for 4 months now and Medi-share is doing nothing to help us - they are actually saying that "we should have asked the hospital what their cash rate was upfront" - ummmm what hospital tells you the cash rate for the four different doctors we saw that day, the ultrasound imaging and interpretation, and the procedures performed? NO ER/HOSPITAL DOES THIS! I am a local provider here in Colorado Springs and I will be telling my patients to stay clear of this corrupt company. Not a Christ-like company. Incredibly disappointed and actually embarrassed for this company when I see how they treated my family and I and when I read the reviews of the many other people who have experienced similar difficulties with this company.

Leaving after 8 years, After spending many hours getting documents together for the only request I ever made, they sent money to the provider and I was told it was a mistake and it would be corrected - THAT never happened but they did get their money back from the provider!
I would never trust them again.

We were associated with Medi-Share for over three years. During that time we "shared" over $15,000 but received $0.00 coverage! Not only that, the most basic of routine care is not covered, and because I happen to have migraines and high cholesterol (controlled with a statin), I was apparently not covered for a variety of possible health conditions though I have had these issues for many years with no complications, and I was also required to pay a higher premium. I paid for all of my own medical care PLUS Medi-Share. This has been an expensive learning experience, and I wish I had realized sooner that there is cheaper and better coverage available through the healthcare marketplace.

UPDATE TO BELOW:
Only after I left a review did I receive a call. They "investigated the situation. " After I made it very clear that we were not doing anything illegal, no ticket was issued, no citation, warning of any kind, they then said it was because he was on "public road, " which is not in their guidelines anywhere. After 2 more rounds of push back, I have conceded and canceled my membership with this terrible organization.

They claim to be a Christian organization that shares one another's burdens. After this experience, it is clear they are just a another entity doing anything they can to maximize profits by refusing to protect their member. Get real insurance.

ORIGINAL POST:
Unfortunately, after nearly 10 years as members, we will be forced to leave Medi-Share. When they say they are not insurance, believe them. I'll give a full experience for the good and bad.

As a member since 2016,2022 was the first year I ever had enough medical bills to use my Medi-Share benefits, and for the most part, it did work out. There were several incidents they did not cover from a volleyball ankle injury, but it was a small enough amount that I didn't worry too much.

Howevever, this year I learned my lesson. My kids were involved in an ATV accident earlier this year. My son was driving the vehicle as a 14 year old which is the LEGAL age in Texas. My son has had many safety courses and understands the dangers.

During this accident, both of my children were injured resulting in significant ER and ambulance bills.

Medi-Share has now deemed my bills "ineligible for sharing" per their guidelines. Their guidelines state in an auto accident, accidents will not be covered if the operator is under the age suggested by the manufacturer age OR state law. Not AND - OR.

Knowing that my son was legal age in our state, I truly believed that we were not operating outside of any guidelines. This decision has left me incredibly exposed with more than $20,000 in medical bills they will not cover.

What's worse is that I've been told I can appeal. After 3+ attempts to contact the person in charge of this, I have not received so much as na email in return.

I have contributed $70K - $80K towards others' medical bills over the last 8 years and now when I'm in need, they have abandoned me. Not even a phone call back.

Also, be sure to research the providers. Due to Medishare's unwillingness or delinquency in paying, many providers no longer accept them. I called FIVE doctors from their supposed "provider list" to get my husband a doctor's appointment and NOT ONE said they will take Medi-Share. Call your doctor before deciding to join. You might be surprised.

I wanted to option to work out for my family as we are self-employed. I believed it would for years. Unfortunately, that was only my ignorance in being healthy and unharmed. I'm so disappointed.

I was with Medi-Share since 2019. Only one year did we have enough expenses to actually benefit from the program. That same year I was billed from the hospital for some part of the whole situation that I believed should have been covered by Medi-Share. They did not pay it and said it was the patients expense. When I spoke to the hospital they said it’s my expense. Nothing was explained to me that in actuality Medi-Share should have notified me that they were trying to have the hospital cover the expense since the hospital has funds for non insured individuals for this particular scenario. After over ten phone calls on different days over the months and months this drew on I had to pay the bill. By the time I even received the bill it was almost a year or so after the situation occurred. Shortly after back and forths since I passed the one year mark to be able to try to have Medi-Share do anything about it they just said it’s too late.

I let that scenario go. Then today I called to be removed from the program and they are telling me I still need to pay next months premium even though I already have coverage elsewhere and want out they refuse to honor the request.

This was the nail in the coffin. I’ve faithfully paid for four years and used their help once and they want to force a bill on me.

I don’t recommend this sharing network for all. If you are positive you will need extra help every year go for it but their monthly premiums are getting very high and when you need them to act as a Christian, and take care of their fellow Christians, it seems it’s too hard to do for them.

May God help shine light on the organization so they can see their short comings clearly as with all these one stars show.

Please don’t let this “Christian” organization fool you. I’ve watched people get screwed by them. Family member trying to get insurance since his employer went cheap on theirs. He goes with Medi-share. 2 weeks later he gets diagnosed with cancer. They dropped him. Now the family is 250k in medical debt simply by getting treatment to save his life, about to lose it all. Once again, don’t let their show of Christian values fool you. They only care about $$$. Wolfs in Sheep’s Clothing.

Well this is a little late but I am now dealing with a medical bill right now that happened in 2021 and the office just told me I owe some $300 for an annual exam as medi-share denied payment and that’s why took so long. I was paying a lot each month and every time I went to doctors I then had to still pay a lot. To me this insurance is not worth it and has caused stress! Monthly rate is fine, not great and that’s why 2 stars. Regular annual exams cost me on average $184-290 each time. Which they state at the beginning that as a women you get your annual, ob, and Mammogram.

Had a good experience for a few years. Was then given misinformation that cost my family a substantial amount of money and affected our ability to cover our family's health concerns. Despite being a Christian organization, they did nothing to make it right.

I originally gave a bad review, but medishare came through and covered my nearly $500,000 bill from mutiple ER's and mutiple gastro doctors.
