Mi Apá Latin Café of Alachua reviews
21The service was pretty good and our server was very nice. The restaurant was actually really full, which I figured was a good sign. I'm Cuban and I've had pretty good food so I was expecting the same. I must say the Ropa Vieja was pretty good as well as the arroz con moros. I was disappointed in the croquettes and the yuca frita. The cortadito was also very good.
Ordered ropa vieja with 2 sides, yuca with mojo sauce and sweet plantains, plus a mamey smoothie for dessert. Cost was $9.xx for lunch and $3-4 for the 24 oz.smoothie. Ropa vieja was tender and flavorful, and the sweet plantains had crispy caramelized edges. The mojo sauce seemed like it was lacking something.maybe not enough garlic? Anyway, the mamey smoothie was great. I used about 4 Splenda packets to sweeten it up. I would've ordered the shake instead but I figured there would be less mamey in it, and it would be a lot more calories due to the ice cream. Shakes are about $1 more if you prefer that.
Tried to call and order ahead 2 times, but they didn't pick up the phone, and it went to voicemail. When my husband went in, he said it was very busy (Monday at approx 1pm). It took about 15-20 minutes to get our food. Takeout containers are Chinet type and not waterproof, fyi, so you may want to put something underneath them. The food reminds me of Miami. <3
I stopped because of the reviews! The coffee is amazing but the services is horrible! We got our food before our coffees. The food did not live up to the hype. It was tasteless and flavorless.
Mi Apá is the go-to Cuban restaurant in Gainesville and the best part is Jorge Aaron Gomez! He is a super star at Mi Apá!
We stop here every time we make the trip to St. Pete, FL. Best cuban food, great service. Wish they would open one where we live in GA!
"Great food, great service, great prices, welcoming atmosphere, creative decor. "
"Several tasty vegetarian options (appetizers) and fruit shakes (bebidas). "
"Iced cafe con leche to go at half price (happy hour discount) topped it off. "
Saw signs for this while traveling and can never pass up a Cuban while in Florida! Place was clean and well spaced, kinda difficult to get to though. Staff was friendly and big menu. Ordered to go, with mixed results. The Medianoche was burnt, the Cubano perfect. Yuca fries delicious but the sweet plantains super dry. Coffee exactly as it should be super strong and sweet, tres leche cake a disappointment. Also ordered a coconut pastry which was amazing. All in all would try again absolutely even knowing it could be good or bad.
Pretty good food. Cuban Sandwich needed a little mustard to be a little more authentic but all in all a good restaurant. Plantains we yummy and the cuban iced coffee is a new spin
I have been to Mi Apá several times and will continue to support them. Everything I've ordered has been delicious and the service has always been great!
It use to be an awesome place. I am gona leave my opinión here. This place was our favorite place to eat when we travel to Florida everymonth. The food was old. The service distracted. And the milkshake use to be awesome. It was poor and flavorless
Really great place to eat latin meals, pastries, coffee and much more. But gave them a 4 star for the paper thin bistec. All this while following CDC guide lines.
This Mi Apá Latin Café of Alachua reminded me over many other similar Mi Apá Latin Café of Alachua I have visited. And unsurprisingly, the food was just as good.
Your cashier should really not be eating fries at the pass through food window. It’s not an appropriate thing to do before the pandemic let alone right in the middle of it. She is ringing people up, eating her fries at the service counter, talking with her mask off as food is on the service counter, touching togo food orders, and countlessly touching her mask on/off as she is stuffing her face with fries. Not once did she even wash her hands. Nasty.
Got home as this restaurant is 45 minutes away. We ate no worries. What was actually served was good. But check your to go orders they are not being completed. Ordered meat, rice and beans, sweet plantains and got home no plantains and meat cup was half full. Our favorite spot was the hugest disappointment today. Check your to go orders. They are not filling out the orders correctly or filling them correctly. You are paying for food not being received. As you can see there is not a spot for plantains in this dish. We ate half the meat and rice already. But shorted food. Check your plates on to go orders! They are shorting the food. Your getting a pretty box with 1/3 of the food.
I'm half Cuban lived here since 1972 and love this place everything is great steak sandwiches a must picadillo and ropa Vieja excellent don't forget to get flan
Great food & great coffee for sure. The plantain chips with the sandwiches were lacking in our opinion. The staff was very friendly and provided quick service.
Tried them for the first time at work. Tried the Elena Ruz sandwich. Pleasantly surprised. Went back today for more, got some Cuban coffee. This was the best coffee. Perfectly made, exceeds expectations true Cuban coffee. Will go back for more.
I have been going to this place since it opened but I will not be returning after my most recent visit. I called ahead and placed my order, when I got there arepas were not available for my order. This is probably the fifth time this has happened. You would think when you call somewhere and order, the restaurant would let you know that they can’t fulfill your order at that time. This was the last straw for me due to the ineptitude of this place to provide adequate or consistent service and their affinity for government muzzles (masks). Something as simple as food service should be accomplished on a consistent basis this is definitely not the case in today’s world.
Amazing! The Vaca Frita was perfect. All our food was delicious, hot and accurate. The mobile ordering is a breeze. And. You must get a Cafe Bombon and Tres Leches!
For a quick bite to eat, I was enchanted by the many different versions and variations of a cuban sandwich. The Miami version was delightfully delicious!
