DO NOT HIRE! DO NOT HIRE!
My brother hired them for his wedding and they did a terrible job and they lost all the videos from his wedding. I wouldn’t recommend them.

Nima photography did an amazing job at my daughter’s sweet 16! Very attentive, punctual and kind. I noticed them always taking pictures of every detail. I did not need to request things on my own they were already on top of it! Which is a plus because as a host you’re always needed in so many other places. My photos and video came out GREAT! I am so glad I chose Nima photography and I will definitely recommend them to others and come back if I ever have an event again.

For many years we have counted on the professionalism of Nima Films in our meetings, weddings, communions, birthdays, etc.etc. We were lucky to find an incredibly talented photographer who always exceeded our expectations and knew how to capture the essence of life in his lens. His passion for photography allows him to always be motivated with that vision of looking beyond what he sees, he has the ability to find the snapshot in his head and capture it in his photographs, thus highlighting the delicate features and expressions that really touched our hearts. Javad is not only a master of the camera, but also a true professional arriving on time, maintaining a friendly and approachable demeanor that makes us feel very comfortable during the photo shoot. When we received our final photos we were very impressed by the level of artistry, each image is a great work of art, evoking joy and ending that we experienced during the precious moments of our different meetings. Javad managed to encapsulate the emotions and create timeless memories that we always treasure. His expressional talent, professionalism and dedication to his craft make him an option, highlighting him in the world of photography. We wholeheartedly recommend his services to anyone looking for extraordinary photography and an unforgettable experience in the Tampa Bay area. Thank you on behalf of my entire Family for capturing our precious memories with such grace and skill.

Thanks to Javad and team! Quality was good and photographer was amenable to requests such as taking photos of multiple groups and respected the boundaries of the event. I wished was the photographer stayed longer to get more photos of the main event.

I tried submitting a review in the past but it wasn't working. I DO NOT RECOMMEND this company. JAVAD is who I worked with and told me he doesn't Arab weddings. He has no clue how to film a Arab weddings. The recording was so poorly done. Audio was cutting in and out and quality was horrible! You can't enjoy watching this video due to the recording kept switching scenes every 2 seconds and the scenes were mixed up. There was also the same scenes multiple times in the video. There was so much random black screens in our video as well, and almost half of our video he just put the camera on the corner and just left it recording. Also his crew is very unprofessional, you can here his camera crew cursing under his breath saying "get the F out of the way". We had a list of problems that needed to be fixed and he never fixed. Worst part about all this was his communication was horrible and kept pushing us back. This guy does not know how to record nor take pictures. DO NOT USE THEM!

I had 77 videos digitized and was really impressed by the quality:

Nine 8mm silent film reels (really old)
9 VHS video cassettes (30+ yrs old)
29 8mm video cassettes (17+ yrs old)

I dropped them off at the start of one week and picked them up by the end of the next week.

Since it was from the film itself, 8mm reels were HD quality. (1920x1080)

Other two formats were standard definition. (usually 636x480)

I was surprised the VHS tapes came out so good. They have all been stored inside all this time, in a cabinet, so maybe that helped.

The 8mm video cassettes, which kind of look like old audio tape cassettes, but store video, were not as good as the VHS in some instances. It needs more explanation.

8mm video cassettes store video interlaced. That means each frame stores half the picture, skipping every other horizontal line of resolution. The next frame then has the missing horizonal lines that previous frame skipped. And so on. It's just a bad physical format. But that's the format of the physical media I recorded it in.

There are sometimes some artifacts along the side of the video where small horizontal black lines appear along the left and right sides. It happens more when there is a lot of action in the shot.

If you view the video in VLC media player, and perhaps a TV which I didn't try, the video will look good. Action shots may briefly bring out some of the black lines, but often not noticeable. You may not notice it all. That might be because some things, like VLC media player, automatically deinterlace the video by default. Not always perfect, but really good. If that setting has been changed, make sure to turn deinterlacing back on. In menu go to "Video > Deinterlace" and turn it on or maybe to "Automatic". Then choose mode in "Video > Deinterlace mode". Play around to see what works best.

But I wanted to edit the video and then post it on YouTube. To do that, I needed to actually deinterlace the video or action shots would have those black lines.

I tried a variety of free programs, including Shotcut and HandBreak. Deinterlacing a video like this isn't a perfect process I found out. Some techniques work better than others. I played around until I was happy with the results.

Make sure to ask about any discount for having a lot of videos digitized.

The price is to record two hours of video on each tape. If the tape goes longer, which for some modes it does, it will cost extra per tape.

Here is what I did in the free program Shotcut for the 8mm video cassettes so I could edit the video. (likely not needed if you only want to play the video in its entirety)

In Shotcut, add an interlaced video to the timeline. Click clip in timeline. In properties window, on "Video" tab, set these settings:

Scan mode: [Interlaced] [Bottom Field First]

In the menu near the top with big buttons, click "Export".

On "Export" tab, go to "Custom".

Click "Advanced" button.

On "Video" tab, select:

Scan mode: Interlaced
Field order: Bottom Field First
Deinterlacer: BWDIF (best)
Interpolation: Lanczos (best)

Note: Maybe it's because I don't know how to use it, but I found outputting the video interlaced and then editing it in an old version of Windows Movie Maker worked better than outputting the video as "Progressive". Progressive means it doesn't skip half the frames in each frame. That's what you want, but for me, I usually got rid of more lines doing it the way noted above. Weird!

To export file, click "Export File".

Then select a name for the file.

Some settings reset each time you open the program, like the custom export settings. The program crashes sometimes with a big file.

It might take about 10 minutes per two hour file depending on your computer. Then you can edit in an editing program and you can upload the file to Youtube. It's possible editing programs you pay for might do this deinterlacing for you when editing the video, but I went with the free stuff and what I am familiar with. (I still use a copy of Windows Movie Maker that you can't download any longer)

Was able to convert all VHS, 3.5 diskett, slides and negatives onto a thumb drive. The pics and videos came out great.
