Old Town Mexican Cafe, Key West FL

The food is expensive and it wasn’t good. My other half order the chicken burrito and said that it doesn’t taste authentic. We also order the queso fundido and it came very oily and regardless if you get it with meat or without it’s still $14. They do not serve a side of cheese. All that liquid on the cheese is oil. Also be aware the moment you place an order they will tell you that they cannot cancel it. So buyer be aware. The chips and salsa appears as if you could get it from the nearest Publix. Lastly, the margarita was the only thing that he said was worth it within a $50 bill. By the way, that was the cost to feed one individual. Would not recommend and will never return.

Didn't get to eat here, stood at the host stand for 10 min while wait person after person did everything they could not to make eye contact. Finally after flagging someone down and asking if we could put our name in we were told a hostess would be over. Then when that finally happened we were informed that the half empty restaurant was very busy and we'd have a 30 minute wait. So we left. Oh this was in a Wednesday.

The service was slow, even though the restaurant was not very busy on a weekday afternoon. The menu was more overpriced than any other mexican restaurant I’ve seen. The food was also very spicy, even though it was not written that it would be spicy on the menu. Overall, not a great experience, even though it was rated as one of the best Mexican restaurants in Key West.

Absolute treat! Our waiter was the best ever. The food was so deliscious. I don't do spicy, our waiter had some great recommends!

Very bad hostess - left us, mother with 2 children, standing there for 15 minutes. Only after a nice waiter called her over did she ask how many people. Then she asked two men (also tourists) behind us to a free table and left us standing again. After I asked her why we couldn't have the free table directly to the right, she said "no, that takes 20-30 minutes. "

The food was served quickly but was fairly mediocre. The tamale is not stuffed- instead, the filling is placed on top of the masa. The rice and beans were rather bland. The nachos tasted like tortilla chips with microwaved shredded cheese on top with little additional flavor. It was overall a pleasant lunch, but nothing outstanding.

Slow average food. Salsa had an unfresh taste, taco salad was some lettuce over tortilla chips, steak fajitas was mostly squash/zucchini with little steak. Margarita was weak. Plastic patio table that was wobbly. Go elsewhere.

Fantastic food (Delicious) most friendly service and hospitality and I would highly recommend eating here anytime of the day ️️️️️

Best drinks in key west! The margaritas are amazing, if you don’t like tequila just sub with vodka like I did, they are so good! The food is delicious too, great service and friendly staff.

Burned the nachos. Added 18% gratuity party of 4 without notice. Apparently all restaurants add gratuity because of tourists. If you ask they’ll take it off because they don’t tell you anywhere on the menu. Sneaky.

Before we got there, I looked at reviews to find Gluten Free and Vegan places. Old town Mexican cafe came up.

Coincidentally, my son pointed to this restaurant as we were walking by and wanted to eat there. We stopped in, luckily at the right time because they were closing down for a big party.

The waitress was so nice. She pointed out what can be Gluten Free and Vegan.

I didn't want too much to eat, so I ordered guac and black beans. I poured in some of the salsa and it definitely made them more to my liking.

Chips and salsa is NOT complimentary, so definitely check before ordering.

Also, the kids menu is limited. There are no burritos. We ordered 2 burritos for the kids at just under $20/burrito.and it was just the burrito.

Other than the prices, I really liked this place.

The best part for me was seeing the hen and her chicks! They were running all over pecking at fallen food and Mother hen not too far behind them.

DIRTY! We saw cockroaches under our table. One of them was big. Not just that, in addition to charging 18% service fee the final receipt again asking for tips and the original 18% being not shown after charging to credit card. The idea is ppl who didn’t notice 18% already charged will pay again. Very bad business ethics. The food is already expensive at $20 minimum per entry.

I had a disappointing experience at this Mexican restaurant. The waitress barely attended to our table, despite my repeated requests for hot sauce going unanswered. My wife, who was seeking a spice-free soup due to illness, was recommended the tortilla soup, only to find it unexpectedly spicy. The chicken burrito was below average, and the fajitas were just average. Adding to the frustration, the unresponsive and slow service was coupled with an obligatory 18% gratuity charge, which they also asked for as an extra on the check. Overall, not recommended.

We just enjoyed wonderful chips and salsa (more like Pico de Gallo). We split a chicken wrap.it was divine and just perfect! Jason took great care of us! Reasonably priced for being on Duvall. Atmosphere is fabulous! If we were here longer we'd definitely come again!
