Oldest House Museum Complex reviews
14This museum would have been a great experience if the tour guide, Ashley, would not have embarrassed my family and I for quietly speaking Spanish in the middle of the tour. During the tour, I would explain key points for my family who don’t speak english and she interrupted the tour just to tell us that the translating is confusing and she could not focus. However, the people speaking english throughout the tour while she was speaking did not get any complaints from her. It is a shame that what would have been a great experience was overshadowed by blatant racism, especially in a house made by Spaniards.
It was very educational and the tour guide was quite knowledgeable about the house and it's history. However, I wouldn't recommend it for young children as they would get ansy and did while I was there and almost spoiled it for the adults
John was an amazing tour guide! He was so detailed and passionate about the history he shared with us. He was well spoken and so lovely to listen to.
Very fascinating tour of how real estate started in Florida. I was impressed how well the house is preserved and maintained (stone lasts forever). Very insightful tour guide who answered all questions that anyone had. Go for it!
An excellent collection of our town and American history. Something for everyone in this museum from surf culture to ancient military. Super excited to see the exhibit of Byron Priess "The Secret".
We enjoyed it here. The gentleman at the desk was very knowledgeable about the house and the people who lived here. I would definitely visit again.
Great museum, the self guided tour was very informative and staff was always available to answer any questions.
Took granddaughters to see the oldest house, place where their parents got married 19 years ago. The guide was very well versed and gave a nice tour.
This house was so neat! Tours are given every 30 minutes. Parking is free. Loved the stories and the tour.
Beautiful place to stop and visit
Friendly and knowledgeable staff
Great please for the family
Beautifulold house.however, I'd give it a 5 star but the guided tour was a little boring too long.
This is a must see museum with wonderful history of St. Augustine. The tour guide was amazing, friendly and very knowledgeable. There's a self guided part of the museum I highly recommend if you're looking for the history on this gem of a town. There are multiple houses, it's larger than what you see from the street. There's surf museum as well which was pretty neat. Spend time enjoying the grounds and centuries of history.
Meh. It was threatening rain so they didn’t give tours. Felt like a cop out because it was toward the end of the day. The property was really dark when it was overcast outside and with no tour there is not a lot to capture interest. There aren’t a lot of signs. I asked for a guide and they didn’t have anything to give us beside a crude map of the property buildings. Cool to visit such an old house but disappointed by the experience.
Hoyt gave us a great tour of the old house and the interesting and winding history. After the old house there's the Tabor house and another house on property that house several galleries.
When we visited there was the history of St Augustine in maps, the history of surfing in north East Florida and a history of Marineland. Those exhibits with the main museum about St Augustine history encompass pretty much a one stop shop for all history needs in St Augustine!
If you're looking for authentic history in a historical setting, then the Oldest House museum and tour are just the ticket, at the best price.
