1This is an historic place. A truly southern place. Even Civil War Veterans are buried here. We drove to Peniel, near Palatka. Historic oaks with hanging moss overhanging the road. The Peniel Baptist Church is where Billy Graham was ordained. In the adjoining cemetary most of my maternal relatives are buried. Great Grandma Lillie Roberts (1894-1995) and her Bloxam. Alongside Civil War Veterans were many other ancestors, aunts, uncles. Many Great this-and-thats including my Great Great Great Grandma Mary Thomas who was a founder of the church according to the record I found. She and Henry Lucius were from Barnwell, South Carolina. They left their plantation when Sherman marched through in a fiery temper. My family history captivates me. It was hot.it was humid. It was hypnotic. It was haunting. It was hazy.it was humbling. It was heart-warming.
