Love this record store! Great owner/operator, & awesome selection across most genres! Every record I looked at & purchasesd was clean, in very good condition, in a protective jacket cover and sounded great. I live in Sarasota, and this place is a must when I'm in St Pete.

Planet Retro is a top tier record store and boasts an incredibly diverse and astounding collection of LPs, CDs, and singles. This place is perfect for any metal or punk enthusiast, with it's impressive selection of rare singles from bands like Iron Maiden and Budgie, and huge number of classic 70s area punk albums. The owner was incredibly friendly and helpful, and I had a fantastic experience here. Could not reccomend this place enough. Please take a visit. You won't regret it!

This is a nice little store, just like the name you feel like you step back in time to a better time, when you walk in. The guy working there has a friendly, calm attitude. He was very helpful, and knows his selection off hand when I had a question. You feel like you can just look around without feeling like being bothered or rushed. Everything is well organized, easy to find, and all the vinyls are well taken care of with a great selection of new and used vinyls, and cds too. Good prices. I look forward to stopping by again soon.

This is a heck of a place to get some vinyl. Sold me an original Rolling Stones Beggars Banquet (Sympathy for the Devil) and warned me it wasn’t perfectly mint. It looked solid enough for me and the price was right. Got home and dropped the needle, and it could have fooled me. Sounded as good as the day someone first cracked it open back in the day. I will definitely be back to buy from this store and could not recommend it more. Wish I lived closer, I’d be there every day.

This record store gets a second star because it's a beautiful building in a beautiful neighborhood. As for the store, this is my opinion and my experience:
First, you should know I am not a "collector" and don't mind even old, beat up records as long as they can play with no skips. They don't need to be pretty, and they can sound like they've been kept under a bed in a garage with no cover.
I came upon this place by accident and was so happy because the murals are amazing and the selection took my breath away. One of my errands that day included another record store I won't name to pick up a specific record. I didn't have much time so I was so happy Planet Retro had it as well as a few other records I picked up.
Then.then, I say. I saw some holy freaking grails (to me) in the bargain bin. I was about to double my stack of purchases and asked if there was a listening station (NOT a deal breaker, I'm a risk taker) like some other used record stores have.
I got an angry lecture from the guy behind the counter. "No, you're on your own" was somewhere toward the beginning of his rant which ended with "if you're looking for perfect, you have no business in the bargain section! "
As I've made clear, I'm not a collector. I am a customer, however. A stranger. If this guy had just said, "No" I would still have bought at least a few of the bargains. But, really, that statement made me so mad - just like I am the judge of whether a record is worth $30-$50 to me, I think I should be the one to decide if a record is worth $1 or $3.
Of course, it isn't my business and, in a way, he's correct but there's no reason to be a jerk about it.
Not only did I not buy any of the bargain records I sadly put back but I then put back the other records I was going to buy.

I usually go to Planet Retro once a month and grab some vinyl. Decent prices on more rare albums and has a good mix if generes. His $1-$5 stuff isn’t bad either ir if digging is your thing.

New and used vinyl is the specialty here, but CDs and even cassettes are available as well; Planet Retro also sells turntables, but stock is hit-and-miss during the pandemic. Be warned-Rob is a bit of a curmudgeon, so you may get some attitude if you're clueless or try to come in without a mask. (Wear a mask.)

A smaller shop but still packed to the brim with plenty of new and old records. They have hundreds of records for only a dollar apiece up to vintage and extremely rare records ranging from the upwards of a $100. A little bit of this and that for everybody and definitely an awesome store to check out!
