AMAZING doctor! Dr. Rafael Portela performed my daughter's surgery. I cannot say how successful it went. The whole staff is very friendly and kind. Amazing job.

My daughter was seen for recurring ear infections on recommendation from her pediatrician. The doctor spent about 1 minute with us, did no additional examinations that her ped did not already do (no scope), no questions about her sleep or any other indications that could mean enlarged adenoids, and immediately suggested two surgical procedures as casually as if he was offering me a cup of tea. He had one foot out the door while I tried to ask whatever questions I could muster in the moment. Then a medical assistant gives me a crude list of dates with x marks all over it saying “pick a date for the surgery” like we are looking at a lunch menu. Even more creepy was a picture of Mickey Mouse at the top of the list because surgery is like going to Disneyland, I guess. HOW does a ENT not use a scope to look at her adenoids before wanting to remove them? The scope is standard care literally anywhere else for this problem. It felt like we were on a conveyor belt in a surgery factory.

My daughter was admitted into NCH last night and we had the pleasure of being cared for by a wonderful team, especially Dr. Portela Jr. He was absolutely amazing in every way. Thank you Dr. Portela for your patience with my daughter and your amazing care! Highly highly recommend ️

Took my daughter to be seen by Dr. Portela (the father) and had a terrible experience. My daughter was afraid of letting the doctor see her ears and instead of calming her down, showing her his tools and being kind, he kept forcing her hand out of her ear, telling me and her that in his years of practice, he has never seen a kid behave like this. He then left the room saying that it was better to have her come back another day. By then, we had decided to leave because his way of forcing my daughter’s hand out of her ears, either by touching her or by telling her to do so, did not sit well with me. His assistant, Rachel, on the other hand, was very kind and tried to talk to my daughter, but she became afraid of the doctor and wanted to leave. The Dr.came back to the exam room and said that my daughter could not be checked like this and so we left. There was no kindness, no effort to connect to my daughter, no effort to make her feel at ease. As an adult, if I am examined like that, I would choose to leave too. Also, a doctor should not touchor force a kids’ hand if he is not allowed. There was no respect, no boundaries, no kindness.

My appointment with Dr. Antonio Portela was very positive. The office staff was friendly and I experienced very little wait time. Dr. Portela spent a good amount of time with me. I never felt rushed. He explained everything in a manner I could understand. I definitely recommend him as a doctor.

The waiting time was very reasonable. Dr. Portela was extremely professional and explained my condition in a very simple way.

We see Dr. Antonio Portela and he is our miracle doctor. Both our kids have always had better quality of life under his care. He is conservative ans honest and takes care of your children as his own. We cant be anymore greatful and feel very comfortable with his recommendations.

Amazing practice Dr Pórtela is an amazing Dr with my son. He explains everything in detail and is very caring. Strongly recommend his practice. He recommended tubes for my sons ears and removal of adenoids and I see the difference in his hearing and breathing at night. I am very happy I choose this practice for my sons ENT needs.

My daughter & I both asked questions & he replies in a knowledge & kind matter. Him & his staff are great. My daughter had to remove both her tonsils & adenoids 7/21. Dr. Antonio Portela performed complex sinus surgery with amazing success. He is personable and empathetic yet extremely professional.
