Shangri-La Restaurant, Sarasota FL

I’ve been there in the past and have enjoyed the take out. However, something has changed in the last six months. Having had positive experiences, I took my wife there to dine in recently. It was not a good experience. The place smelled like natural gas. The tables was sticky and the food was extremely salty. When this was broached with the staff. They were very accepting and indicated that the would fix a new one. But they didn’t. The used the same salty meat and vegetables with a less salty sauce over it. Very bad experience and needless to say I won’t go back.

How is this place open? Usually with Chinese you consistently know what you are going to get. We ordered several dishes, everything had no flavor and the “chicken” was disgusting. Dark and white meat are both great but I don’t know what they serve. I would choose to never eat Chinese again if this was my only option. I won’t even comment on the friendliness of the staff. I’m just going to assume they were having a bad day.

Was visiting from out of town ordered the roast duck with shrimp fried rice ($27) the duck was burnt with no taste not even salt as for the fried rice tastes as if it was out of a can.

Pretty good food and the owner was very nice. Much better than those fast Chinese take out places.

Got the orange chicken and krab rangoon. The food was alright. It’s not bad, but the quality and taste definitely isn’t worth the prices they charge. China 1 is surprisingly better.

This is by far the best chinese restaurant we've been to since moving to Sarasota 4 years ago. The meat and vegetables were really fresh. Loved the crab rangoon. The owner, Ana, was really nice and we found out that they have been in business for 30 years! So glad we discovered this place.

I ordered carryout, and was very specific that I wanted steamed snow peas, broccoli and string beans with white meat chicken. I requested brown rice and brown garlic sauce on the side.
What I received was a lot of cabbage, mushroom, ONE snow pea, broccoli and No string beans. The Brown sauce was super salty and was not a garlic sauce as requested. I would not order there again. My neighborhood Chinese restaurant is half the price and twice as good. Shame it was closed tonight.
This was not what I ordered and it as overpriced.

The staff are amazing and the food is always delicious. A solid 10/10, no joke! You might not realize it as it's tucked in next to the Publix on Bee Ridge and Cattleman. But, they have the serious eats, and it's been a go to for years for us.

On another note please remember to be kind folks. I was actually there yesterday 6-14-22 and witnessed someone tantamount to harrassing a server, who had nothing but patience in dealing with the customer. Reminded me of the golden rule, of treating others the way you'd like to be treated. It's important!

To the lady that ordered won ton soup and complained of having too rich a won ton to broth ratio (due to your "bad stomach"), but ordered won ton soup anyway, instead of a bowl of broth. But when asked to fix it, was only interested in paying for broth and half the won tons. 1. You catch more flies with honey not vinegar 2. Yelling you cannot understand someone standing next to you, while I (from the other side of the restaurant) clearly heard every word, was somewhat rude and clearly a touch condecending. 3. Seriously, your old enough to know better, please do better!

Shout out to Anna and the server who dealt with a high functioning curmudgeon, like champions!

Ordered here a few times now and learned a few things. The price is manageable for orders, but what you get isn’t really worth the price. The amount of meat in each dish is pretty underwhelming. My most recent order didn’t even have the chicken added in it so I had to drive back and pick it up. Along with that I found a nice long hair in the sauce of the other dish. I understand times are hard but whoever is in the kitchen likely needs to be replaced. Overall just underwhelming and disappointing

Have been coming here for almost 30 years and its always delicious. Highly recommend the Beef and Broccoli, Sweet and Sour chicken, Wonton soup and Shrimp Lo Mein, but everything is excellent.
Makes a great cozy adult date night destination on off-peak nights and times, but can get a bit loud and crowded during season just like most other good places in SRQ. Love it!

I've gone here for most of my life when I crave Chinese Food! The food is delicious, the atmosphere is cozy, and the staff are a delight. With dozens of options to choose from, I promise you will find something you like. Personally, I recommend the General Tso fried chicken medium, with an eggroll and chicken sticks, it is amazing! Whether you want spicy chicken, hot soup, or a calm eggroll, This is the place to go.

I always order pork egg food young it's delicious and their iced tea is really good the woman at the cash register could use some customer relation skills

With so many take-out only Chinese restaurants around, finding a dine-in one is indeed a rare find. Shangri-La did not disappoint, and in fact, went above my expectations. The wonton soup was very tasty and had a nice amount of scallions and slivers of pork as well as fresh wontons. I could tell that the egg rolls were hand-made.not the frozen pre-made kind. They were so good I ordered more! An added touch with the fact that the Chinese mustard and duck sauce came in little bowls, and not in those take out packets. I love pork fried rice. It is my go-to dish at a Chinese restaurant. I ordered there special house pork fried rice oh, and it was delicious! Veggies, egg, and lots and lots of lean pork. I almost couldn't finish it, which would have been a unheard of. I highly recommend this place. The owner is very attentive and it shows in the way the place is run.

This IS my FAVORITE CHINESE restaurant in Sarasota. Food us prepared individually, fresh, well prepared, cooked. Family owned.

If you are looking for the absolute Best Chinese restaurant in the Sarasota Bradenton, Venice area, you will enjoy Shangri-La. I have been a customer since they opened in '91, and the staff and the food (carry-out or dine in) never disappoint! This family owned and operated restaurant is a must visit.

Not impressed with the General Tso Chicken. The meat consistency is suspicious and the hot sauce can be improved in many ways.

It’s like stepping into another world, the food was amazing, best Chinese food I’ve had in 20 years and we eat out a lot! Service so friendly and caring! I would suggest you bring your jacket if you get cold easily, it’s pretty chilly in there, but in Florida that’s not a bad thing anyway.

Best Chinese food in town hands down…been to them all and believe me, none of them compare… if you eat in service is amazing, 1 waitress for the entire place, 7 tables full, she never skipped a beat… will be a loyal customer for now on.
