Such a beautiful trail, with a horrible experience because of the overwhelming amounts of TICKS! Skip trust me I wish me & my son would have! We had so many on us we lost count Deer ticks included (hard pass) gl

This was a wonderful trail to go down. Nice view of the lake and canopy. Had a great time walking the trail with my wife. Bring bug spray. And there is also lots of deer flies. Lots of wildlife rabbits and birds

Lost our way while looping back and ended up on the road 1.5 miles from trail head but still pretty cool.

Fun hike. Even took the bicycles so we could maximize our time there. Had to walk them a bit and lift them over a downed tree but great workout

Heavens! This place is still swarming with mosquitoes, on December 5th. Had to turn back early.
UPDATE: three months later, in mid-March, the mosquitoes were minimal. The trail was well-maintained and the flora and fauna was wonderful! Therefore, I raise my rating to 5 stars!

This is a great trail, but make sure you have on strong bug repellent to have the best experience. The below issues are just a part of being in the Florida wilderness. Ticks are everywhere and can be a real problem for dogs. We also encountered poison ivy and poison oak. If you stay on the trail, you should not have any problems though. The two times we have hiked here we did 6-7 miles. You can go much further if you take the north trail onto the Florida Trail. Be mindful of how far you walk as you will most likely have to return the way you came, thereby doubling the distance.

We originally attempted this trail a week after a storm and it was flooded. In December it was dry enough to enjoy. I enjoyed the adventure of navigating downed trees and mostly maintained bridges and boardwalks. We didn't make it all the way to St Francis but I'm curious to try for a longer hike at some point. My son complained about the lack of wildlife but we were pretty loud. Plan to hit bathrooms at a convenience store on route. This is not a super accessible trail for people with ambulatory issues.
