St. Johns River Eco Tours reviews
18Cpt. Colin really knew his stuff. This 2 hour tour was great. I would recommend this company to anyone. Don’t miss it.
Highly recommend this unique and relaxing tour. We took the "dusk" tour and were treated to beautiful light and scenery as the sun set behind walls of cypress trees. Colin has an eagle-eye for spotting birds and other wildlife and we had learned a surprising amount by the time we disembarked.
Beautiful river tour for 2 hours on the St. John's River. Great guide and great environment! Saw lots of birds and manatees! Definitely recommended!
Do yourselves a favor and go and take a tour with Captain Colin! You will enjoy an excellent tour!
Amazing trip where you see many animals and vegetation, the captain is very knowledgeable about everything you ask him and the most interesting part was the part where he feeds the owl was spectacular 100% recommended for the whole family Loved it
Our captain Colin did a great job on our trip around goat Island and had some wonderful surprises. Don't miss this. Your out of town guest will love it. Old Florida at it's best.
Absolutely loved this tour! Captain Colin was the most detailed and funny tour guide I’ve ever had! Highly recommend this tour!
From the start, Captain Colin was gracious and able to accommodate our slight tardiness to the boat ride. He is very knowledgeable in both Florida’s natural wildlife and flora. He injects a humorous flair into his commentary that keeps everyone entertained and engaged. The previous owners chose wisely and I hope they rest easy knowing this business is in capable hands. Many thanks for the wonderful experience with St. John’s River Eco Tours.
Excellent tour of St.johns River. Caption was very knowledgeable of area. Recommend if in area
Very good tour with the family. The guide was knowledgeable and funny and kept the kids engaged and laughing
Colin was amazing and super knoledgeable, making the whole experience enjoyable and well worth the trip. Definitely recommend!
It was very fun and I learned some quite interesting things, overall I enjoyed going here with my family!
My family and I had an amazing time on our tour. We were the first group to attending the new evening tour. Upon our arrival back to the dock, we got to witness the beautiful Florida sunset. Along the tour we got to see a variety of birds, deer, gators, and even a couple of manatees. Our tour guide was extremely knowledge of our Florida’s ecosystem. It was a pleasant experience. Definitely recommend.
Skip the crowds at Blue Springs and tour the exact same river at St Johns Eco Tour! The best guides, you can walk around the boat for amazing photo ops, and there's a secret destination you won't see on any other tour. And it's incredible!
We made our reservations for Halloween and found when we got there that we were the only two people on the tour. Captain Colin gave us own personal tour and was enthusiastic showing us the gators, birds, plant life, manatees and owls. It was a perfect chilly morning on the water. BEST boat tour we've ever been on. We'll visit again every year we come down. Thank you so much for your hospitality. Thanks, Betty Sanders
Capt Colin provided a great experience for a great value. He is very knowledgeable about the river, the wildlife and the area. Always learning as well, Colin welcomes guest information that he may share to future guests. Definitely another hidden treasure on the St John's.
While the weather is so spectacular, why go to the movies when you can enjoy a two-hour wildlife excursion for about the same amount of money (counting movie ticket, concessions and possible exposure to illnesses indoors) ?
Although the St. Johns River Eco Tour has been on my to-do list for years, I only recently made the drive to DeBary to check it out. What a treasure!
The boats are clean, quiet and comfortable. Passengers were so absorbed by the beauty of this wild and beautiful river, no one was staring or scrolling on their phones. Our offshore journey was accompanied onshore by a variety of spectacular species - including limpkins, anahinga "snake birds", cormorants, a wide variety of herons, storks, hawks and kingfishers, as well as a half dozen large and small alligators.
The star of this show, hands down, was a huge manatee who waved its tail at us while feeding on the abundant grass below surface. But "Wild Bill, " our boat captain, came in a close second with his nonstop one-liners and deep knowledge of the history, flora and fauna of the region. He does a mean owl call too. I've lived off and on in Florida for some 60 years and learned a lot from our expert guide.
When you return from this amazing trip, don't forget to stop in and check out the country store located off the boat launch. It stocks all kinds of unusual fare, including python and wild boar jerky, handcrafted items and apparel. If you're hungry after your trip, the upstairs Swamp House grill offers a terrific selection, ranging from an enormous Cuban sandwich to a crisp house salad you can top off with juicy shrimp or chicken. The orange citrus dressing accompanying the salad is to die for.
To wrap it up, a trip to the Highbanks Eco-Tour is a daylong adventure that no one, be they a longtime resident or visitor, should miss. Save yourselves. Put down your phones and enjoy wonderful nature, as God intended us to.
