Sunglow Seaside, Madeira Beach FL

Booked for 5 weeks. After two days (should have walked out right away, but after a 10 hour drive we were exhausted) of looking at dirty floors, ceiling fans, overhead lights (filled with dust), a shower head that is about to unscrew from the wall service and a back door very difficult to lock, if at all. The owner said it is just sensitive (the jam was rotting, damaged and more than sensitive), we left. The bed was so tight against the walls you had to climb over the front to get in. Pushed the mattress over to get in and under it were floor tiles, imagine that. The place was not as advertised. VRBO denied our dispute: careful doing business with them, they support the owner not the tenant. I have pictures to prove it. Small claims court will not be our next step.

The owner has responded and is totally inaccurate. Scammers are not out of pocket $8000. Scammers do not leave a property having paid for it in advance, The Building Department was asked to go to the property to certify our claim regarding the backdoor not being secure. You want pictures, I have them.

The management here is phenomenal! My room was nice, clean, stocked with everyday items I didn't even know I'd need. Will definitely recommend to anyone who is visiting Madeira Beach

We visited this charming condo a week after Hurricane Ian. Doc Schroeder emailed us that the place sustained absolutely no damage, and he was right! He greeted us with a bottle of champagne and two wine flutes. The condo suited our needs, and we slept well on the firm mattress. We were just steps from the beach, and every evening we saw a spectacular sunset. If you go, bring your own beach towels. Everything else was provided. We love this area, and I'm sure we'll be back. We highly recommend Sunglow Seaside.

We spent a week at Sungow Seaside motel last March. We enjoyed it so much. The penthouse condo was perfect with beautiful views of the beach. It was equipped with everything we needed. The beach is a few yards away which made it a perfect location. Lounge chairs were available for our use and we used them daily on the beach. As well, we enjoyed being able to BBQ our meals on the BBQ provided for guests. As well, having laundry facilities on site was a bonus. Doc, the owner was amazing to deal with. He made sure we were comfortable and was always visible to help us with any thing we needed. The location is right on Gulf Blvd and we used the trolley to get around to every place we wanted to explore including Clearwater Beach and John Pass. We have booked another week for March 2023. Can't wait to enjoy the beauty and peacefulness of this little hidden gem once again.

Great location but the owner is a scammer! We booked months prior to coming and paid in full told him how many was in our group and we show up late at night and someone is in our room that we reserved so we call Doc he puts us in another room for the night and the next day he shows up and says we owe him more money bc we have 5 people when he knew all along. Long story short we ended up having to pay almost double. We could’ve rented a house for the same price. Don’t waste your time or money with these people!

Stayed 10 days and enjoyed every day. Doc was very friendly and accommodating and Kimberly was onsite and available to assist with anything we asked about. Check-in was a breeze. The proximity to the beach is amazing. I was able to walk the beach each day and take in the sun and sounds of the waves. The public transportation was perfect. We traveled to various beaches and restaurants daily, making it to Clearwater Beach to the north and St Pete beach to the south without needing a car. Several restaurants are also located within walking distance (less than 1 mile). We also picked up groceries and supplies at the nearby Winn-Dixie and Dollar Store so we could use the kitchen for some of our meals. It was nice not going out to eat for every meal. Couldn't have asked for a nicer 10 day stay.

Sunglow is such a great location for the dollar right on the beach. We dealt directly with Doc the owner who is very friendly and accommodating. Being a smaller complex he is quite personable and there are many small amenities he offers for usage at the beach you may not find at the other larger places. One story complex is nice so everything is ground floor and it’s close to everything in the area. We had a good time. Recommend.

TRAVELERS BEWARE. NOT EVEN WORTH ONE STAR. TERRIBLE BUSINESS. OWNER IS A FRAUD.

Traveled 20 hours, driving from Pennsylvania to Florida for an anniversary trip with my husband, only to receive a message on VRBO from DOC SHROEDER, owner of SUNGLOW MOTEL/CONDOS in Madiera Beach Florida, that our dog was not approved to stay at the condo. We have WRITTEN CONFIRMATION from May 17,2021 that he was approved to stay for the agreed upon fee of $100. He then today tried to say we didn't send vet records, despite that not being explicitly written anywhere. I immediately sent the vaccination records from the vet. Doc, owner, then says, he will provide a one bedroom unit but not the one we paid for (in full already). I called and requested pictures of the unit he was proposing since that was not the one we paid for. He accused me of not being willing to work with him (because I asked for pictures and didn't immediately just agree with him) and demanded I cancel the reservation. I said I just wanted pictures since he is changing the terms of the rental and he said "just cancel the reservation and get it done. " He told me he would refund it in full and I said it had to be in writing. He messaged that information and I cancelled the reservation, only to receive a message after from him stating, he cannot refund taxes and fees so I would have to contact VRBO.

Following this experience, I found other reviews stating he double books units on this property and cancels reservations last minute.

If you're looking to gamble with your reservation and your money, this is the place for you. If you want a relaxing, stress free vacation, look elsewhere.

Well for starters he says he does not have to allow people with disabilities nor does he have to allow their service dogs on top of that when we arrived he wanted 900 more dollars than he had quoted and while we were here he did the same thing to three other couples

We booked this accommodation two months in advance via Airbnb. The day before leaving from NY, Airbnb instructed us to call our host Doc to confirm. This is when I was told he did not have a reservation under my name. He quickly got off the phone saying he would “figure something out”
We attempted to contact Airbnb for assistance and received none. Doc never returned our calls either. As the hours slipped away and a 6am flight was coming up very quickly, we had no where to stay and it was Spring break week.
We began calling every hotel and rental property in the area.
We called Doc multiple times and he blew us off. He refused to cancel the reservation officially through Airbnb, in what I believe was an attempt to keep our money.
Airbnb was of zero assistance in the entire event as well.
This property had great reviews up until 2 weeks prior to our incident where someone else posted that Doc did the same thing to them.
Needless to say, this was the worst experience e ever. This man is a fraud and shouldn’t be trusted.
Airbnb is not any better either. We finally got a refund and they promised to pay the up charge to the hotel we found. Airbnb is now going back on what they promised. The entire experience was awful!

What a great place to stay. Doc is a very nice man. Always makes sure everything is going well. We even had cold beer waiting when we got there. Thank you Doc, we enjoyed our stay. Quiet place right on the beach.

Love it here! To the beach in seconds! Pet friendly. Restaurants, shopping within minutes. Also peaceful here the owner Doc is such an adorable kind man, he keeps his property well lit, secured and clean. I never want to leave!

Great place for an affordable price! My girlfriend and I came here for our first vacation together and were very happy with the coziness of our room. Had everything we needed and location was great.

This was our second year at Sunglow. It is convenient to several different restaurants and John’s Pass is only 2 miles down the road—we walked there via the beach several times. Doc takes great pride in his property and it shows in how clean and inviting each unit is.

Best beachside place ever. Very clean and spacious, bedroom and full kitchen. Doc is great owner and accomodating. Judy is great in housekeeping. Peaceful, great guests. Grab one of the umbrellas and walk a few feet to the beach, or enjoy your own outdoor table. We have found our forever Florida winter "home"! Thanks Doc for everything!
