SWA Greenway Trail System North Entrance reviews
18There is a sign on the entrance that says that the trail is not maintained, but the trail is in very good condition. If you go to the end it connects to a trail system that runs for miles. That one has no shade so be prepared. The SWA trail is shaded and has multiple areas where you can stop and rest.
This is a scenic spot for hikers (and cyclists) of all levels. There are both short and long trails with benches along the way, so you can stop to rest or have a snack (bring your own, of course, and take your trash with you). We usually spot a lot of squirrels and herons while we're hiking. We've also seen Sandhill cranes, alligators, and iguanas.
A couple of downsides if you keep to the shorter trails: 1. It's close to the dump, so if the wind is blowing just right, you're gonna smell it. 2. Close proximity to busy roads means you'll still hear traffic sounds. 3. Some of the trails lead back into the SWA facility, which temporarily takes you out of the natural area.
As in the name, this is the north entrance to these trails. There are 3 trail entrances with parking lots on this trail system. Off the north entrance, there are 2 trail heads. One behind the office building to the left and one in the parking lot as you come into the left. The trails back here are paved and nicely shaded for summer walks. They all lead to the owahee trail, which is a gravel service road and a little more open. You will see more wildlife on the service road (owahee trail). You can stay off the service road through a series of trails off the north entrance. Enjoy
So many trails and i like that it's privately owned. I bring my dogs too and they love it.
We were enjoying our walk, when an alligator stopped us in our tracks, we're so nervous on our walk out of the park
Great walk. Many people there to bike the trails. Parking is great. 2 drawbacks-no restrooms (outside of the natural one *wink wink*) and no TRASH RECEPTCLES which is ironic considering SWA runs it.
Great place for a hike split into 3 different trails. ROOKERY Trail partially closed from Feb 1 through Sept 30 to protect nesting habitat. Bring your bug spray!
This is a great trial system in the middle of a busy urban area. Outside of the beeping from equipment at the landfill and it's surrounding buildings you would never know you are in the middle of West Palm Beach. I have enjoyed these trails for years and will be back again. I would recommend them for anyone of any age. Professional riders and families with kids, this is a great place to be.
This is more of a hidden gem since it is in the solid waste authority. I think you park with their employees but they do have designated spots for the park/trail. Agreed with other reviews that you may have a pungent smell depending on the weather. Not for younger kids since we saw several alligators in butterfly loop and trail is not maintained for recreational usage, stroller will not run well. Overlook does not have railing so that is another reason to consider if you bring younger kids. The reason I stated it is a hidden gem is because it is not crowded and there are signs on at each connection point and the trail is mostly one way or loop so you will not get lost.
I finished all three trails except Rookery trail due to mating season but I will be back in October.
Its a good peaceful site to walk/run/cycling but beware of alligators. I got an opportunity to see two of them.
Great beginner trails for walking and biking! 4 stars instead of 5 because depending on wind direction there's the smell from the nearby trash dump.
North entrance was easy to find. Beautiful plants and lots of animals. Odor of the SWA facility was at times a nuisance, but didn't ruin the experience. It is a pack in and pack out facility with no water or restroom facilities, but to do the entire property only takes a few hours so it shouldn't be a problem if you bring snacks and water.
Amazing place, beautiful nature trail. Got to see all kind of wildlife: Snail Kite, Wood storks, butterflies, dragonflies, alligator. Worth the trip.
It is very easy to get lost! Make sure you have a charged phone, unlike me haha. Also you can always check out maps to help guide yourself. I came here around 4: 30pm on a weekday and no one was there! It was actually a bit eery and I don't recommend going alone just in case since there are gators there and you want to be safe! It was so quiet and peaceful though. I will definitely be going back with my boyfriend and at a earlier time. I did not see any gators, just squirrels and some iris birds. Overall beautiful views and VERY peaceful!
Amazing place. Just make sure to keep your dog on a tight leash as there is very big alligators in the premises.
Definitely my fave. It's peaceful and there's so much to see. Scenic for sure Every now and then I come across a small gator.
A quiet slice of paradise while viewing alligators, raccoons and deer. Easy, shell rock trails.
The butterfly loop was a lonely and mostly shaded trail. We saw snakes and an eagle. Trying to stay away from the crowds? Check this place out!
