Tonys Clam Chowder Seafood Restaurant reviews
16I went in looking for a great little place to take two very special friends. They were very busy that afternoon. However, while I was waiting to get information, I was offered a sample of their Clam Chowder and met one of their long-time customers. Just that experience alone made such a remarkable impression. I will be coming back with my friends to enjoy a meal and will then update my review. They say first impressions are important, and my experience was a great one.
Came in not expecting too much but we are huge New England Clam Chowder fans. WOW THIS PLACE IS A MUST. Clam chowder is exceptional and fresh. Key lime is easily my top 3 in Florida including the keys. Service was great. Location is nice and quiet just off the main drag of Mount Dora. Highly recommend.
Our server Shaun was very helpful explaining the menu. We ordered the fish dish for two with a cup of clam chowder. We were not rushed and enjoyed our meal. Only thing I would change: red pepper flakes in clam chowder was a bit overbearing.
Clam chowder was delicious, had a salad and asked for crab cakes on them. My wife had the seafood Po’boy both were great. Nothing fancy but a real nice local place. Would definitely go back.
It's easy to tell why Tony's won the award for best clam chowder three years in a row. This is amazing chowder and if you're in the area, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you stop by.
A few things to note. The chowder here is the standout and if you order it, you won't be disappointed. We also ordered the seafood sandwich, prawns and grilled shrimp. These were good, but not of the same caliber as the chowder. The sandwich was a bit dry. The prawns and shrimp were just average.
Service is fine but not amazing. For such a small location I expected a bit more attention. Also, given the small size of the restaurant, it's easily possible for them to fill up and refuse people walking in off the street. So be warned. Plan ahead.
A last note. My wife has to be gluten free. The chowder is not gluten free and the menu items for those with a gluten allergy are fairly limited. That said, the staff was very accommodating and we appreciated the help given to make our experience a good one.
Overall, if you want amazing chowder, this is the place to find it. Will definitely come back again.
The chowder is the best I've ever had! The atmosphere is wonderful, decorated very cute, and very clean. Our service was great too! We'll be back!
Holly provided excellent service, and we enjoyed their outstanding clam chowder and lobster roll. The atmosphere was pleasant, and the food was fantastic.
Chowder was great. The nice waitress gave me a sample right when I sat down. Fish sandwich was excellent too.
Off the beaten path. Charming outdoor seating and the door so good. My husband had the seafood po-boy and I had the chowder and salad with grilled shrimp. Outstanding experience!
Great seafood without breaking the bank!
Clam chowder was delicious, with a slight kick to it. One of the best clam chowders I have ever had in a while.
The blackened fish was perfectly cooked.
Will definitely come back if I am in the area.
It was unfortunate that we visited this restaurant during the Saturday of the famous Crafts and Art Festival of Mt Dora. Taking advantage of this busy weekend, the restaurant decided to have a limited menu at higher prices. No ice water, no ice, no ice tea, just soda and bottles of water. It's very disappointing that this restaurant would take advantage of this festival to resort to such tactics. Yes, you can do things to speed up service and try to make extra money during these busy weekends. However, there is a fine ethical line that this restaurant crossed in my opinion.
Best seafood chowder I've ever had, superb scallops, and the waitress (Lauren) was amazing! We'll definitely be back often! Parking was simple, and the atmosphere was quaint.loved everything about this place!
Had the fish and chips, it came out hot, it was not greasy some of the best fish and chips that I've had in a while.
Fantastic lil seafood restaurant.everyone there was friendly and fantabulous! The clam chowder is the best I've had in 30+ years. Everything was fresh, seasoned to perfection and DELISH!
Great seafood restaurant. I loved that is a local restaurant, with history and unique ambiance. Servers know about the meals and give recommendations if you need. My plate was great, good portion. The clamp chowder “yumi”. Private parking for guest and on the street. Nice Outdoor seating area. R
