TooJay’s Deli • Bakery • Restaurant reviews
17I love TooJay’s deli dishes and their Shepherds Pie, a British dish hard to find in the US. Service as average this visit, but is often above average. Prices are mostly very reasonable, below the inflated Fla prices this year. Despite the 3 star rating, I recommend it and go here every few weeks. It’s a “3”, in comparison with gourmet restaurants that I give a “4” and reserve a “5” for only the very few best.
Waiter had to be asked numerous times for bread for the table. Never brought it. Waiter was asked for a bag so we could bring a sandwich home.never brought us one. We eventually asked another employee who got us one. Service with this Waiter was horrible. Being a customer service situation the Waiter should be let go. Word of mouth can make or break a situation.
Food mediocre at best and service slow. We had finished our meal and waited 15 minutes just to get the check and the restaurant wasn’t busy. We both had french fries with our meal and stomach felt funny afterwards. I’ve eaten at other Toojays locations and had a good experience, but very disappointed with this one.
Good food. Outdoor dining area is messy. High school kids use the area as a hangout are noisy and rude and do not buy anything.
Astounding and under-appreciated gem that's out of plain view. Hidden in a plaza and away from the main road, this is an incredible restaurant / deli. Had the best pastrami sandwich I've eaten in nearly 40 years and their patty melt is awesome, too. Plenty of parking, great looking bakery, and great service.
Needs management. Neither paper towel dispenser in men's room worked. Urinal was clogged and full. Server seemed overwhelmed. Food wasn't hot.
We had one of the lunch specials, a half sandwich and soup. Very generous portions. We stop in regularly and it's always superb! Highly recommended, you won't be disappointed. Jim I.
This place has declined over years. ALL Toojays. We used to eat at other locations (since closed) when we lived in Tampa first time. We were so excited to go again. VERY disappointed. Hostess was VERY rude. Food was not good.
I recommend trying this place out when you can. They have a wonderful selection and all their baked good are freaking delicious.
I wanted to give this at least a 4 because the food is a 5 and the options on the menu fantastic but I have to rate the overall experience and the service was unacceptably slow. Twice we had to find our server to get even an update. It was not very busy so not sure what the problem was. I truly believe some basic training and maybe teaming up bus staff who was literally standing around waiting for something to do, as someone who can refill drinks for example or assist in any way would help a lot. We waited at least 15 minutes just be greeted at our table and it was easily 45-60 minutes before we got our food. Simple things like a cup of coffee never came and we had to ask for it. At one point I thought it might be easier to call in an order and pick it up. I’d hate to see the place at a busy time. Our server was very nice and did apologize but the entire experience should not rest on her head. This is management not training or overseeing the operation. It’s a real shame too because the food was outstanding. The vibe is the restaurant is great, old school deli style. Everyone at our table loved what we got and said we’d love to eat here again. But maybe takeout sadly. We’re going to try a different location and maybe it was just an understaffed day but come on. Eating out is expensive and the experience seating to check should be 5 star.
Matzo ball soup horrible full of onions.tuna salad didn't taste like any tuna I have ever had
Less than 30 minutes, my food order was delivered. Food was great, exactly as ordered. Delivery was quick and the driver was friendly and professional.
Stopped by for soup and sandwich. Matzo ball chicken soup would've passed Grandma's test. Corned beef (lean cut) was first rate. Young server was pleasant and very attentive.
They do have good food here but I always come for the matzah ball soup. It's just so perfect and loaded with flavor. The chocolate rugaleh is also so good. Fresh rye bread upon request. They pretty much have something for every pallet. Even picky eaters will find something good to eat here.
Excellent service and great menu.
UPDATED REVIEW: In the last 4 to 5 months the service has gone down. The servers get the order wrong, different parts of the meal are spaced apart by 5 to 10 minutes, condiment requests take too long to fulfill.
In one instance I ordered eggs and potatoes and the serving was half of what is normally given. When I pointed this out the server said that that was all that was left?
Excellent service, super delicious comfort food. Can’t go wrong, everything on the menu is delicious and the Banana Dream Cake is amazing.
Really terrific sandwiches, soups, and most of all really friendly terrific people taking care of you, when you are at your hangriest. Pro-Tip: plan on taking half home, or order lite then add after you see the giant plate arrive. Gl.
