I went in to deposit some change of approximately 16 dollars mostly in quarters that I had accumulated in my car from visiting the laundromat. I put all my change on the counter to show the woman teller what I had. She told me I would have to put all my change into rolls, like rolls of quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies, and the bank would have to formerly accept my change. I’ve never had to do that before when occasionally depositing extra change, so I was confused, but I was in a pretty good mood and thought maybe the policies around depositing change had shifting during covid or something. I rolled all of my quarters, and when I gave them to the teller, she said that they didn’t even make up two full $10 rolls. I said yeah, because I only had about 16 or 17 dollars in change that I had put on the counter. She said that she thought I had a lot more, which is why she gave me so many papers to roll, that I should’ve told her that I didn’t have anymore change, and that I wasted 20 minutes of her time. I said that I couldn’t have been more clear with her from my perspective, we had just experienced a miscommunication, and instead of apologizing she was blaming me for the mistake. The manager who was a guy came over and asked what the problem was, and I told him what happened and that I just wanted to deposit my money and leave because this had gone on too long, and I was frustrated and tearing up because I felt like the woman teller was intent on humiliating me for some reason. He was polite, counted my change, and deposited it, but I did not appreciate how long he let the interaction between the teller and me go on without her simply depositing my change.

I left and called Wells Fargo customer advocacy to report a complaint of my experience at this branch. The person who listened and recorded my report was kind and validating and told me that she would find out who the teller was and contact the manager to do a behavioral review on the incident. I hope that actually happens.

For a year now I have been a traveling artist and work in a different city in different states every month. I’ve worked in 8 states and visited Wells Fargo’s in all of them. I’ve never had such a strange and unsettlingly poor customer service experience at any of the Wells Fargo’s I’ve visited this year, let alone in my life. Remember Wells Fargo customer service: you work for your customers, not the other way around. Please have a modicum of respect.

Bankers cannot count! The one thing you’d like to rely on your bank for is to be able to count correctly. Unfortunately, I have to use this bank because it’s the one my company chooses and as the manager I am over there quite frequently. Daniela one of their tellers beyond being slow and rude she also cannot count and didn’t give me the correct change. Now I’m out the money and they never offered to correct this mistake on there part. Really sucks when they can’t do the one thing we are trusting them to do.
