The first year we used this company we were so impressed so we used it again for our December 2023 vacation.

We received a call letting us know our car would be parked in section D. When we arrived there was no car with the plate # provided in section D. We landed at 11 pm and ended up having to wander around the entire parking lot to try to find a car with the plate # provided.

Found our car in section A and a slightly different plate # than provided in the voice-mail and call received. We got in the car and there were multiple lights on on the dash - low tire pressure and oil light. The car seat provided did not tighten at all and was incredibly stained with specks of food on it.

Took the car the next morning to be replaced - they apologized and gave us a new car of same kind, however this is the last thing you want to do your first morning of vacation.

Had previously recommended this company but will not again!

We rented a car for almost a week from Aloha Rent a Car and were very pleased with the car itself as well as the customer service.

We landed at the Maui Airport and once we called them and then got our bags, there was someone there to pick us up and bring us to the office for paperwork and to pick up the car. The customer service representative was friendly and clear in her instructions, such as how and where to return the car, and she could not have been more helpful in answering our general questions about Maui. The Toyota Corolla we received may not have been brand new, but it was very nice, clean and ran/handled well.

The price to rent was reasonable and the best we found in researching car rental prices on Maui. We prefer to buy local whenever we can and glad we chose Aloha Rent a Car. We wouldn’t hesitate to use the company again.

Well-run budget car operation with friendly staff and competitive rates. The cars are mechanically sound but may have cosmetic issues which gives a certain peace of mind about the not uncommon scrapes and dings that are endemic to crowded condo parking lots on Maui. Also less likely to be targeted for a break-in when left at some of the beaches.

Appalling After-Hours Service Experience

I find it imperative to express my profound dissatisfaction with the abysmal service provided by Aloha Maui Vans during our after-hours pickup reservation on Dec 20 at 10: 30 pm.

Despite a call received two days prior, to charge my credit card ahead of time, we were left stranded at the airport with a one-year-old child, having never received the promised text message with crucial information about car location and access code. Our repeated attempts to contact both the regular and after-hours numbers went unanswered, leading to an agonizing one-hour wait and a series of fruitless voicemails.

This egregious lack of responsiveness not only left us inconvenienced but forced us to resort to alternative transportation at our own expense. Adding insult to injury, the company had the audacity to impose a $25 surcharge for after-hours pickup—a service that was not only unfulfilled but also exacerbated by the company's blatant disregard for customer communication.

I insist on a prompt and comprehensive resolution, including a refund of the aforementioned surcharge and a reimbursement for our incurred expenses. It is disheartening to witness such a flagrant disregard for customer service standards, and I trust that your immediate attention to this matter will rectify the undue distress caused by this ordeal.

EDIT: Aloha rent-a-car came through, so I'm updating this review to 3 stars. They refunded $25 surcharge for late pickup and our Lyft ride that we had to take due to the aforementioned inability to pick up the car after-hours.

Pros:
Pickup was very easy and convenient
The car runs well enough
AC worked great
Decent gas mileage
Offered a shuttle to airport

Cons:
Everything else.
I wasn’t expecting a shiny new fancy car. I knew it was going to be an older model which was fine. But I was not expecting the car to be in such bad shape it was embarrassing to drive.
Missing two hubcaps
Paint chipping everywhere
Lots of stains inside on the seats
Transmission slipped a few times
Key fob didn’t work
Windshield wipers were terrible/borderline dangerous?
Seat belts barely retracted when taking them off

It got us around the island but I wouldn’t recommend.

Great experience, easy communication, rige from and to the airport. Will definitely use them again.

This place is slow.be prepared to wait 20 minutes for the shuttle at the airport and at least an hour in line.employees are not quick and efficient at all.and then when we got the car it was very dirty.the inside was very dusty and had a bunch of finger prints on the screen and the windshield.and the outside of the car was very dinged up and scratch marks everywhere.save your time and your money and go through one of the main car rental companies.

After a decent initial experience with this rental car company on a previous trip on the Road to Hana, I decided to use them again, expecting a similarly smooth process. Unfortunately, my recent encounter has significantly altered my perception of them.

One major issue was the inconsistency between their online promotions and the reality when you call in. Their website, which isn’t updated regularly, advertised specific specials that were not honored/available (misleading in general) when I called, leading to a frustrating conversation about rates and policies.

A specific instance that further dampened my experience involved an inquiry about their “2-hour late return window grace period” policy. I wanted to gain clarity and navigate around an additional 24-hour charge due to a slightly later return time. However, I was met with a response that was both unaccommodating and unexpectedly confrontational.

I found myself being accused of trying to exploit a local business. Then, I got a disheartening lecture about the importance of supporting local businesses - a principle I agree with and one of the primary reasons I chose their service over larger, potentially cheaper platforms like the airport agencies or TURO.

My intention was not to undermine their business but to seek a fair deal, especially given that their pricing is notably higher than other options. Unfortunately, the conversation took a turn for the worse, ending abruptly with the representative alleging aggressiveness on my part and hanging up on me.

I advocate for the importance of local businesses and generally anticipate a higher degree of customer service and mutual respect, especially when people make intentional choices to support them. Sadly, this experience was glaringly different from that expectation.

In reflection, not only has my opinion been swayed, but I feel compelled to share this experience with my extended family, who also frequents Maui and rents from Aloha Rent-A-Car.

It is disheartening that this terrible interaction has not only lost them my future business but that of my family as well. Despite this incident, I remain supportive of local businesses and will seek alternative local options in the future.

The absolute worst place you can rent. Have used before but the new ownership is terrible. First car they rolled out for us was wrecked, had bald tires. Second car was front end was completely worn out and unsafe. Manager was rudest unprofessional acting jerk ever. Finally got a decent car on third attempt after being treated very rudely for just wanting a safe car. Would have gone elsewhere but it was late in the day but I strongly suggest you don’t go there at all. They could care less if you get stranded or even worse. I’ll pay double to never use this place again. Buyer beware! These cars are unsafe. After seeing the reply from the general manager, I would like to add that I don’t have the wrong place. It’s Aloha Rentals on Maui. The cars were unsafe because the tires were bald, had significant front end damage and were very loose in the front end. We finally got one that was marginal at best, since it was so late, I took it. But the biggest insult was the manager who treated return customers like dirt because we refused the first two pieces of junk they rolled out. I can’t believe aren’t being sued but if you keep rolling out those kind of cars, it’s only a matter of time.

I normally do not leave reviews, but I felt it was warranted to leave a review of this company. We chose them because they were a local company (small business), which we try support versus larger, nationwide chains, especially due to the recent situation in Lahaina. We did select an “economy” vehicle, however we did not expect it to be 12 years old. We rented and returned 3 vehicles within 3 days due to safety and comfort issues (first one sounded like the backend was dragging and little to no AC. Second and third one had little to no AC as well). The owner/manager was very rude upon return of the third vehicle and asked us to “take a test drive” with him to prove the AC was not working. This was our vacation, and all these trips were infringing on that time. He finally gave us a new vehicle to drive that was perfect. It should not have taken us four tries to get a vehicle that was satisfactory, especially considering there were literally 18,000 rental vehicles sitting next to the airport waiting to be shipped back to the mainland (this was told to us by a local).

Get all the details before renting. Made no mention of a minimum day rental, so instead of $100 which is what I though, they said it was a minimum of 5 Das and over $400. Then top it off, the guy didn't take any responsibility for his wrong doing.

Nadia was lovely & very helpful. She picked me up from the airport & provided a clean car right away. I have already rented from her twice & both times have been a delightful experience. I am very thankful to have found an alternative to the corporate rental car companies.

Non-responsive. We tried to reach them in two different ways. They don't provide enough information even in confirmation emails. Between our experience and reading recent reviews, I think we dodged a bullet. Prices looked good at first but ultimately not worth it.

EDIT: you can see from their response that there are integrity and accountability issues as well. Definitely suggest you heed this review and others if you want a good rental car experience.

Great bang for your buck! They have a range of options to fit your budget. If you do choose an older, cheaper option, just don't expect a pearl, you get what you pay for folks, be realistic. They do also have newer models that are a fantastic price for the quality.

We chose a +/-2015 model initially to save some money, but we learned that it had a mechanical issue. We brought it to their attention and they gladly swapped it out for another car. And they didn't have another option in our category so they upgraded us to a newer model without any extra charge.

If you want a corporate experience, then just stick with the big named companies and you know what to expect, and expect to pay more.

If you treat people with aloha then they will treat you with aloha. Be kind and have patience.

Terrible experience. First car they gave had such extreme axel and suspension issues we were terrified to drive it. Brought it back and they gave us an older car that was also in bad shape. It knocked every time it went around a corner and smelled like cigarettes. After getting home I noticed on credit card statement that they had charged me $300 three separate times. When I called to ask they said the charge 3 times was a mistake but that they charged us a one time cleaning fee of $300 because there was sand in the car. I mean seriously? ! You’re better off to go with a standard car company at the airport

Don't rent from here! I went online to reserve a car but never received an email confirmation. So I called the office to see if they could find my reservation and they confirmed they DID NOT have it. They suggested I go online and try again or they could book it for me on the phone. Instead I went with another company after reading the terrible reviews.

Turns out they did have my reservation and I'm being charged a $30 cancellation fee for a car rental they said they never had. And instead of being helpful, the assistant manager was just completely RUDE. I've never experienced so much hostility from a mistake someone else made! She could've just acknowledged they made a mistake and waived the fee instead she doubled down and was RUDE just for $30? No way $30 is more important than their reputation. Terrible customer service and I didn't even rent a car from them.

Heed the bad reviews and rent from somewhere else.
