Was charged an additional $75 on my rental for the grave sin of attempting to update the flight information on my reservation after Hawaiian Airlines cancelled our flight. Not to mention the rental agent tried to charge us for an additional hour on our rental.

As we all know there is a terrific shortage of rental cars. My car broke down seriously needing a new transmission in an only 4 year old Tahoe. CRISIS! Avis was able to get me a car and my local Avis employees allowed me to extend when the mechanic had delay in receiving the new transmission from the mainland. If not for Avis I would have been forced out of business.

Have called this location trying to get a modification for our rental over 40 times, and they just wont answer. Absolutely ridiculous.

We were preferred status and they had the car ready an hour ahead of our reservation time. And then we got charged for that hour. Also didn't respect our initial estimate.

Rented a "premium luxury SUV" for $20 more than a Full size SUV and when I got the vehicle it was the vehicle that they promised but it was not clean inside or out. I had to take the vehicle home and clean it out myself before putting my family in it. There was tobacco in the driver side door handle and the interior looked like it had never been wiped in all of its 20000 miles of service.

The car was not cleaned properly and it had an odor to it. I returned it early and the same with the replacement vehicle. The only difference with the replacement was no odor that I couldn't get rid of.

Service was good however car I was offered was dirty. This happened The previous time I rented from Avis also. Don’t know why they would offer a car that was not cleaned and expect the consumer to accept it.

Found out our tail lights weren't working (someone told us as they passed us one night). Called Roadside Service number - useless. Tried customer service - useless. I wasn't wasting my vacation getting someone else's vehicle fixed, so just drove without tail lights for the entire 20 days.

UPDATE: Immediately after posting this I received a call from Andrew Leffingwell, Avis, Hilo Airport Manager. His genuine concern to the problems I voiced has renewed my take on my situation. The quick response really took me by surprise but Andrews professionalism and concern clearly shows that Avis could not have picked a better person to manage it's company. Andrews integrity supercedes the outlook I previous had when it came to "big companies". I will be back! Mahalo nunui Andrew Leffingwell!

Awesome customer service ever. Previous booking with Hertz seemed like a nightmare with an unaccomodating woman. Went next door to avis, & Boom. I was on my way to work in Waimea. Thank you Avis for your awesome employees in Hilo! A+

Booked my rental for a last minute inter-island family emergency through Costco travel online. Avis was offered as one of the most economical choices so I went with it. Though we did encounter a couple problems with our rental, I want to take the time to commend the Hilo airport counter supervisor, Andrew (Andy), for exceptional service and helping us professionally and quickly to resolve our concerns. Mahalo to you for being kind and supportive through our entire rental process.

Charged me $100 extra (fee for an extra day) for being 11 mins late to drop off because of flooding and rain. They did not answer any phone calls prior to drop off. Then, they would not allow me to use the car for the remainder of the day that I was charged for. $410 quote for 4 days ended up being $540. Would not recommend.

When I got to the preferred avis counter they said that I was not an Avis Preferred member and I should go to the counter inside. I waited over an hour before someone helped me. When I returned the car, the bill was not correct and it took almost an hour to get the bill corrected. It still is wrong but better than when I walked in the door. I had to leave to catch my flight. I almost missed my flight because of the time it took to correct the bill. Later I went to the website to apply to become an Avis Preferred member again but when I filled out the application it said my email address was already associated with an Avis Preferred member account. It said to either create another user name or call customer service. I called customer service and spoke with an agent. I explained my situation to him and he said he couldn't help me because he just did reservations and then he hung up on me. I will never rent from Avis again.

Wow.major computer glitch. 1st day in Hilo Avis pre-charged me over 2k.maxed my travel card and caused me issues. Called and Angela was very helpful having the manager call me directly. All was made good and they helped me due to my inconvenience. So, the vehicle was great, service awesome and prices were adiqiut for island rentals. I understand things happen and Mahalo Hilo Avis manager for fixing all.

I don't know why I have used the Avis rental company at Kona, Hawaii three times. Never again. We always reserve a vehicle and have been there on time. Whether it's crowded or not-the vehicle is NEVER ready and we spend an hour there. We had initially booked a Turo car months in advance to avoid this hassle. Well, the Turo person, Rain, cancelled a day in advance so we were stuck with Avis-because I had to find something on short notice. This company really needs to 1) hire more employees, and 2) purchase the vehicles people prefer.
