Big Island Retreat, Kailua-Kona HI

The room was full of ants in the bath and on the bed. There are geckos also. The road to the building is complex and convenient, especially at night, as it is very dark outside. The room is open, and you cannot close the windows. The bathroom was slightly dirty and not in good condition. All of these affected our travel on the Big Island.

Kinda off the road up a steep 1 lane drive. Good for an adventure. Very attentive staff. Can hear the waves crashing on the shore all night.

We had a great stay here! Our room faced the ocean and had a beautiful view. This place is super close to the beach and snorkeling and they have gear you can borrow. There's no AC but with the windows/fans/ocean breeze, we were never too hot. You definitely hear the ocean, which I thought was really peaceful.

We stayed for a week in this splendid place where we had a wonderful holiday.
Karen is a very kind and helpful person, she even gave us a room upgrade, thanks to this we could see fantastic sunsets from the terrace and be able to enjoy our meals. The bed is comfortable even if a little high, and the wooden canopy around it gives it something special.
The location is favorable in terms of reaching the beach in front, the place is quite quiet, especially in the evening, a little less so in the early morning.
If you want to visit other places I recommend renting a car, to discover the surrounding places and the fantastic beaches. Furthermore, parking is free and you can find it under your room.
Downtown Kailua is teeming with shops and restaurants.
More than positive experience.

EDIT: It’s delightfully charming.
But….
You can hear EVERYTHING. You can’t sleep in. And the neighbors or someone like to bang on things very loudly very early. There was also banging on doors or something at 8am followed by people talking around 930 am. And noises from doors open and closing, footsteps, people leaving. Not a place to sleep past 8am when u feel like it. Paper thin walls, the windows don’t help and u can still see into the rooms from ground floor or tall neighbor buildings, and the ceiling fan on hi speed does absolutely nothing.
AND THE LOUD, NOISY BED. Every movement makes a sound……. Annoying.
Very hot, need at least two ground fans since ceiling fan does nothing. No breeze,
Other than that…. It’s a super cute room and place. Great location close to a snorkeling beach. But won’t ever stay here again.

We spent a couple nights here at our last stage on O'hue. The bed was comfortable, the place was clean, and the common areas were laid out nicely. I would definitely stay here again.
