Bite Me Sport Fishing- Kona Deep Sea Fishing Charters

Me and two friends booked a charter with this company last week from 6: 30-10: 30. Whenever we travel, we always make it a point to go deep-sea fishing, as it is one of our favorite activities. We were very disappointed in this trip, not because we did not catch fish, we recognize that that is not some thing that always happens and it has happened to us before. We have never been on a charter that spent a quarter of the charter time fishing for bait. Only the mate fished for bait. Perhaps a few more lines could be out for bait also. The bait is what would be used to fish for Mahi. We did not catch any bait. So our only option was to troll for Marlon, which has a far less likelihood for bites. Also, this was not a deep-sea charter. We were hugging the coast line the entire time. The captain was great and tried his best, the mate was also trying his best, however, I really did not appreciate him giving the middle finger to the coast guard. I have a lot of family in the coast guard.

I did not want to write any of this on a public review. I prefer to reach out to companies directly so they can try to fix any issues we may have had. (This is what I prefer my guests do to for my own businesses). However, I did email them and got no response.

Please understand, I am someone who rarely complains. We have spent a lot of money on our excursions in Hawaii and this one was a let down which we felt needed to be addressed.

Went on the Manta Ray snorkeling trip. It was amazing. Lena, Maddie and Louie were awesome and made the experience even better!

Awesome captain and hand. Good atmosphere. Would do it again in a heart beat even though the boat got skunked.

Husband took dad out for a fishing trip. Had to be there by 7am. Boat was late, then wouldn't start. Made them walk to the store a ways away, dad had Parkinson's and cannot walk well. Boat was complete junk total waste of money and time! If you're looking for a charter, move on to a different one. This one is HORRIBLE!

Regarding Harbor House: Excellent, relaxed atmosphere. You can watch the fishing boats come in, etc. Good food, nice variety (nice portion/price ratio). Can't get fresher fish than this (they even have malt vinegar for the fish & chips-even though their tartar sauce is AH-mazing!) Friendly, knowledgeable staff. "Sam" (greeter/host) is on point. Can't go wrong if you choose to hang out there. Note: NOT "full bar", but their ('frozen/ice cold draft-beer "Schooners" make up for it!) Highly recommend. 10/10 stars.

I will definitely don't recommend this place for your fishing experience here in koa.firstable they showed up late and then they didn't have any bait.they took us for one hour somewhere else just to get bait when we were supposed to be fishing.so technically we only fished for 3 hours and the last thing my friend got hit on the head with the fishing weight.

What a great time! Capt. Curtis and Jonah are the dudes! Hanging out with them is a treat while you get to go fishing. Unfortunately, we went at the wrong time of year, FORTUNATELY Jonah fishes for smiles and is damn good at it. Listening to Capt. Curtis and Jonah was super interesting and educational and their experience is worth every penny and more. They are rockstars and you're missing out if you don't get to hang out with them.

My wife and I were on board Bite Me 4. Captain Hunter and his deckhand Curtis were professional and on the ball to make it a great trip. The fish did not cooperate and thats why its fishing. Thought they gave it there all and that says much. I have ocean fished all my life and own my own boat in Oregon. Truly nice chatting with both of them and watching them work.

Complete disaster from the beginning. We were trying to have a good experience for the children and it turned into a regretful scenario. I did not authorize a charge to my card, however, a charge showed up for $783. They wouldn’t explain if this was child friendly or not (the youngest is still a baby) so I certainly did not authorize a charge until I could obtain more information. When I tried to call them back, there was no answer or return call. I even tried emailing- still no response as to why my card was charged so much money without authorization. Due to the lack of communication and unexplained charges, we decided they were unsafe to take us out on the ocean. Horrible experience, unprofessional, fraud. Unless you want to throw away hundreds or even thousands of dollars, DO NOT even waste your time calling. Hopefully these practices will catch up with them and they will be held accountable.

DO NOT BOOK WITH THIS COMPANY! THEY DO NOT EVEN DESERVE ONE STAR! THEY HAVE LIED TO OUR CHARTER PARTY AND CHEATED US OUT OF OUR MAHI MAHI! WE CAUGHT 2 IN OUR PARTY AND THE OTHER PARTY ALSO CAUGHT 2. WE WERE TOLD BY TAYLOR THAT IT IS ILLEGAL FOR THEM TO GIVE US OUR FISH, SO SHE AND CAPTAIN ANDY OF THE "BITE ME #3" SAID THAT THEY WOULD BE GIVING OUR FISH TO FRIENDS AND FAMILY. THEY ALSO STATED THAT THEY WERE TOO SMALL TO SELL. I HAVE SINCE FOUND OUT THAT WE WERE LIED TO. WE ARE ALMOST SURE THAT THEY SOLD OUR FISH. WE HAVE SINCE CONTACTED MANAGEMENT AND THEY HAVE NOT DONE ANYTHING TO MAKE IT RIGHT. WE PAID VERY WELL FOR FOR OUR CHARTER AND THIS IS SO SAD THAT PEOPLE ARE BEING LIED TO AND RIPPED OFF THEN THEIR FISH ARE BEING SOLD! SHAME ON YOU BITE ME THIS IS THE WORST FISHING CHARTER BUSINESS EVER!

No water for customers as described! Wanted to order tshirts &pay in advance was told to wait, got there not enough in sizes I wanted!

Had a good time on Bite me 3 and 1, great crew on both boats. We didn’t catch anything but that’s the game, maybe next time! Boats: 3: was awesome looked newer and was comfortable, 1: was older, outdated, not enough seating and you can smell gas the whole way through. Other than that it worked mechanically. Mahalo!

Booked a private charter for 3 people on bite me 1. We did a private charter because we wanted to take home a catch if we were so fortunate to land fish. Know that if you too want to do this, you have no say in what fish the captain targets.

We caught a marlin which was epic. Be sure to find the fine print on the website that says this company RELEASES ALL BLUE MARLIN. Since this point is not openly advertised on their website hopefully you can see it in this review.

The catch came at hour 5 on the 6 hour charter and this was after a frustrated captain explained how this company hires private contract captains and pay them terribly. This showed in the upkeep of the boat which apparently the captain was also responsible for. The bathroom you cannot use toilet paper. Ok for some, but when on a boat with 2 women it wasn’t ideal for them especially when paying for a private charter. Would have paid more to be on a nicer boat but again this information is not disclosed. Stairs going into the bathroom felt like they were going to break. Overall the boat was old and not well kept. Extremely dated.

When answering the phone to take your money the lady couldn’t have been nicer. When I called to explain some of our groups frustrations is when this same lady turned petty and angry. Giving a company feedback on our private experience is something every customer is entitled to. Telling me to “go find some aloha” and hanging up is not a business practice I have ever experienced while directly voicing some of the flaws of the trip. I was no rude, I was not calling for a refund or discount, simply to inform and see if my private charter is the experience this company strives for. Was told a manager would call me back and nobody ever did.

2 stars for the captain and deckhand getting us a catch.

ZERO stars for the way this company runs their business. If anyone takes the time to read this I certainly hope you make changes in the way you pay your captains, upkeep your boats (at least bite me 1), and question who is the direct contact to speak with paying customers.

Book with extreme caution. If everything is perfect then your fine, if you have a less than perfect experience be ready to be belittled by a woman who acts like she is 16 years old again. Id bet management will now respond below this honest review in attempt to keep a healthy bottom line while providing poor value experiences for the price they charge.
