Jeff and his deckhand Rick are by far the saltiest fishermen on the island with nearly 40-Years of weekly fishing experience, Jeff would pull-up to one of his “secret spots” and boldly state “who is ready to catch a fish” and we did within 5-minutes several times over.

If you want to do more than aimlessly troll for 4-6 hours (praying for a hook-up), you should go out with Jeff. He has decades of experience and wisdom of the local waters to ensure a successful fishing experience.

My husband went on this charter which advertises itself to be a "catching" charter but he didn't catch a thing.

Understandably, sometimes you don't make a catch when fishing for various reasons, however, Capt. Jeff states on his website that with the abundance of fish available, and the situation of the Kona coast in these Hawaiian waters, there was no excuse for not catching anything. And as a professional, he expected Capt. Jeff to be able to read the day's waters and weather to know where would be the best place to catch at least anything.

My husband said he requested to try something different like go bait fishing or use bait, but the Capt.didn't want to. And they asked my husband if he brought his own bait for the day to use then. My husband didn't get to even put his hands on a rod all day except for reeling in the rods to change lures. But apart from that he just trawled up and down the coast all day without doing much actual fishing. He would've even loved to have learnt some new techniques or anything.

My husband said the day itself was fine, and while the Kona coast is pretty, it felt expensive to sit on a boat for 8 hours just trawling up and down the coast and not changing tactics when they clearly weren't catching anything.

Another thing he was slightly put off by was the rubbish that the boat team were throwing into the waters. It seemed disrespectful to the ocean, and included things like cigarette butts and rubber bands.

I believe Capt. Jeff is recovering from some health issues which might have impacted the day, understandably. But in that case, potentially the charters shouldn't run until he is better for more intense fishing or if you won't be fishing properly then the prices should be reconsidered.

Just disappointing to have come to Hawaii as an avid fisherman to have had such an underwhelming and bland experience for the price.

I had a great experience fishing with Captain Jeff Rogers yesterday. The man is a fisherman, philosopher, and an all around good person. I feel like I made a new friend.not a common occurrence with me.

If you are looking for a true, big catch fishing experience, then go with Captain Jeff! My husband had been wanting to charter a boat for as long as I can remember and on our recent trip to the big island we finally decided to do it. I researched a ton of different options trying to find the best price and was beginning to feel discouraged, so much so that we almost decided to pass on the idea all together. However, I came across Captain Jeff's website, which didn't list his prices, but on a whim I decided to call and ask. Not only was his price the most affordable that I had found, but he also had a cancellation and was able to fit us in the very next day. His boat is set up with high end equipment and on our way out, Captain Jeff took the time to show us how to use it all. Having never fished before, I was a bit intimidated, but my husband relished in the experience. He ended up catching a Mahi Mahi that unfortunately got away at the last minute, but then was followed up by a Spear Fish catch. Captain Jeff helped pull the fish on board and then whipped out a table and filleted it for us. I was hoping we would catch more fish, but my husband didn't seem to mind coming home with just the one big fish. In fact, for him it was the highlight of the whole trip. Side note, this is not necessarily a boat for kids. We brought our three children because I assumed we would all have small fishing poles and could reel in catches on our own, but that is not the case with this boat. While it had space for us all with an indoor cabin and two decks, the kids likely wouldn't have had the strength needed to actually reel in their own giant catches. However, they did still enjoy just being out on the water.

Wow.it only took me about a year find my SD card but now i can post my review of my charter last May. I didn't want to post it without proof of the catch.
This was my 5th year fishing with Capt Jeff and it was a great day.

Capt. Jeff worked hard on the Aloha Kai to makes sure I got some fish I had never caught.

And guess what, we got two of them, a Giant Trevally and an Ono which was delicious. I also caught a spearfish and two skip Jack tunas with one at ~ 13 pounds.

The young girl on the boat earned her catch when she got a ~150# Sand Shark that wore her out. We released the Shark, Spearfish and GT.

What a day. Can't say enough about fishing and CATCHING with him and will be booking again this May.

Went on a 6 hour fishing trip with this guy. He was rude did nothing to try to catch fish. He put out 5 lures all the same trolled at 8 nots. Most the fish we were after are bottom feeders and never brought any bate. Never got out of his chair. It was a joke. Worst day in Hawaii
