For practiced walkers only, it's a very challenging walk in the heat and not a lot to do at the end. The views didn't live up to expectations, but I specifically went for the captain cook monument. Take plenty of water, I passed a number of people dehydrated and really struggling

A steep & challenging hike with unpaved rugged road, but the views are beautiful at every corner. Took us two hour to hike down to the monument and back. It’s a beautiful coast for snorkeling too, though we’ve snorkeled here earlier on a sail so we didn’t go in water. Bring enough drinking water!

This hike is amazingly beautiful with views you likely won’t see as intimately in any other way. But I must warn everyone, I wouldn’t attempt this hike unless you are in prime physical shape. Its a steep grade with rocky terrain about half way down. There are 8 trail markers but truly should be 9. Pack a lot of snacks or meal to ensure your properly fueled for the hike back up. Once you get to the site, the views are equally as amazing. Snorkeling is great with semi easy access to enter the sea and a variety of fish to enjoy. The absolute best experience is to hike down about sunrise and arrive early before the tourist boats.

This trail has a breathtaking view, but also makes you out of breath coming up on a hot day because half of the trail has no shade and it's a nonstop steep climb. However, the reward is the 5 star snorkeling site at the end (best in all islands), crystal clear water and varieties of fish of all sizes.etc. Be sure to bring enough water and go early to avoid the heat. I am an advanced hiker, but in that heat with only little water left, I had to stop every 5 minutes on my way up at 1pm couldn't stand the heat. Enjoy it! This is the best!

This hike is hard! Down wasn’t so bad, but make sure you wear good shoes and bring more water than you think you will need. Going back up is very hard. Between the elevation gain and the heat, don’t go unless you are ready for a workout. The snorkeling at the bottom is phenomenal!

Excellent place to snorkeling, and to have a fantastic time, i recommend use the trail going down the mountain, it's hard, especially going back up hill, but taking brakes, as you need it, and it's worth it.

This trail is all downhill to the monument and beach. The beach area around the monument is gorgeous and the water is filled with tropical fish and corals. When it’s time to leave, brace yourself because it’s all uphill. TAKE PLENTY OF WATER!

After a 2 mile (3.2 km) hike you will come across this cove ideal for snorkeling. The hike is well marked (follow signs 1 to 8) and of moderate difficulty (Easy on the outward descent and more complex for the return with the heat and the elevation). It is not technical but contains some segments of volcanic rocks. Remember to take water
The creek allows you to see for a moment the effigy of Captain James Cook, who discovered this island.
In this bay you will have the opportunity to see many exotic fish.
Tip: come early in the morning to avoid the heat of the hike and avoid the large number of tourists who come by boat

Remember to bring water it’s a long way down. If you hear the sounds of sniffling pig stay perfectly still until it leaves. They can only detect movement. If you are stationary you are invisible to them and safe from the razor tusks.

Very difficult! I am not in shape for this in the heat! If you are in shape, I recommend a day trip and bring food, more water than you think you will need, and definitely your snorkel gear.

Absolutely amazing. Pack plenty of water and wear sneakers. The hike to the snorkeling spot is all down hill and the hike back up is entirely up hill. About 90 min each way. A pretty vigorous hike so come prepared. Absolutely amazing views. Would highly recommebd

Very tough trail, but the snorkeling was incredible! Worth the hike but a few important points — Wear hiking boots if possible. Very steep trail with uneven terrain full of loose lava rocks - be prepared to slide or twist an ankle. Bring plenty of water. You will be drenched on the ascend. If you are looking for a casual hike down to the beach, look elsewhere.

Our favorite trail on the island! Theviewattheend was outstanding, just wish we would have had swim clothes! 1 hour down and about 1.5 hours back. I highly suggest wearing hiking shoes and a camel back with water. No amenities.

Bring plenty of water!
And good hiking shoes/boots (not slippahs).
And maybe a machete to help tame the fast-growing grass…

2 mile hike with little shade, but an absolute reward at the end! This snorkeling spot is so beautiful and there were plenty of fish. There is usually always a crowd though, especially since many come by buying a boat ticket. However, I chose to hike down and up, which was quite the challenge. Make sure you bring suitable shoes! Since we were planning on snorkeling at the bottom, that made the increased amount of stuff which made the hike more difficult. Also on the way back, we were also a little more tired from an hour or so of swimming. I was sore for a couple days after.it is quite the challenge, but you do save money from not buying any boat tickets. It really just depends on your athleticism and how much time/money you are willing to put towards this spot!
Also there are many little rodents around the bottom so please seal all your food in a zipped backpack, or else they WILL go inside and eat your food! Learned from first hand experience when part of my musubi was taken after not completely closing my zipper

This was a fun hike. It also sucked going back up. Wear your swimsuit so you can swim when you get to the bottom

What an amazing hike it's easier to go down then up make sure to bring enough water I would rank this as a level 6 or 7 hike. Good hiking shoes would be needed very rocky terrain. On the way up marker number 7 through 5 I would say is the toughest. This is the best part in my opinion to do snorkeling there are many boats and canoes that come here so just be careful when you're in the water. For us to come down and back up it was 2 hrs make sure you time it right so you're not stuck in the dark. This would be suited for an experienced hiker but anybody can do it in my opinion. The reward is nice view Clearwater and an amazing experience. Very glad we did this while we were here.
