Courtyard by Marriott King Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel, Kailua-Kona HI

They didn’t work with us in our moment of need, instead made us cancel all our vacation plans.

Big fan of this Marriott. Nothing like your normal courtyard. The staff is very good and the hotel is in an unbeatable location in Kona. There are two reasons to this Marriott is getting a 4-star instead of a 5-star rating and that is due to the housekeeping which only happens every other day (every three days in my unfortunate case) and due to the price. I have seen basic rooms for this Marriott range from about $290 a night to $650 for a basic king room. I paid closer to the low end of this range at which price I believe this was an excellent value. Had I paid closer to the high end I would have been greatly disappointed. You can easily walk all of downtown Kona or enjoy the beach right outside of the lobby.

After reading reviews I was a little concerned about our upcoming stay. We had nothing but excellent experiences here. A completely renovated room, including bathroom, spotlessly clean, excellent customer service by all staff, and absolutely perfect location for activities. Would highly recommend, and if we're lucky enough to come back someday will definitely book here again!

Great Hotel on the beach in Kona! Close to all the restaurants on Ali’i drive, the main restaurant strip in Kona.

My experience at this establishment was disheartening. The staff exhibited rudeness and lacked consideration, diminishing the overall guest experience. The property itself felt outdated, resembling an overpriced motel rather than a comfortable accommodation. The lack of attention to upkeep was evident, leaving a less-than-pleasant impression.

To exacerbate matters, the front desk staff appeared uninformed and unhelpful, contributing to a sense of frustration. Their lack of knowledge further compounded the disappointment.

Given the unfavorable circumstances, I promptly decided to check out, seeking refuge at the Hilton. The stark contrast in service and ambiance highlighted the stark shortcomings of the initial property. The move to the Hilton provided a much-needed change, offering a superior standard of service and a more appealing environment.

In summary, my stay at the initial establishment was marred by rude staff, an outdated appearance, and unhelpful front desk service. Swiftly transitioning to the Hilton underscored the stark disparities in quality and made for a far more positive lodging experience.

Beautiful hotel, welcoming staff, and perfect location…. Wish we would have stayed here the whole time!

Is there somewhere else to stay in Kona? I think not. This is simply the best - no comparison to any other resort. The history, the caring staff, the outstanding food and location, it all combines to make a wonderful experience. Whether you are a visitor or a local this is the place to stay.

This is, by far, the best place to visit for a sandy beach on the Island Of Hawaii. By law, the hotel cannot restrict access to the beach, so it is available for public use. There are public bathrooms nearby, as are shops selling food and drinks. One of my favorite spots.

Great last minute deal on room when our flight was cancelled. Super location in terms of ocean views. Hotel dining wasn't bad, but service a bit weak-they said they were understaffed. Pleasant and friendly if a bit slow. +Recommend.

We didnt stay here but we did take the submarine tour on the ATLANTIS X. It's was a neat experience but in no way was it worth the cost!

Didn't stay at the resort. Just used the beach and it's a great spot. Small but nice! Perfect spot to spend our first beach day

House keeping is hard to get even in your schedule day which is every other day. Pool towels by the pool are also hard to come by.

Even though the service was irreproachable and the staff was very accommodating, our experience left much to be desired. The website doesn’t showcase how close the hotel is to the port, and how narrow the beach is. Over the two days we were there, we weren’t able to get a chair at the beach nor at the pool, contrary to what was advertised (and towels were very often unavailable). Unfortunately, our shower also had a very unpleasant smell. Finally, we were woken up before 8am by the sound of a drill in the room next to us. All of this led us to cancel our reservation after two nights although we planned on staying for 6. For the high price, I would not recommend staying there.

Courtyard by Marriott King Kamehameha - you walk in and the stuffy smell of old carpet overtakes you. After you paid $400/500 a night you expect at least a room better than most roadside hotels, but that's not what you get. What you end up with an old room; damaged bathroom door and discussing shower. Other than that, the vast majority of roadside hotels these days are better.

My family enjoyed our 7 night stay. Rooms are clean and nice. Government rates made it affordable. The only complaint is the hot tub wasn't always warm and working properly.

Stayed here couple years ago when it was just the Marriott. What a difference a couple years make, rooms are getting run down. Certainly not the Marriott standard.disappointed.

[SERVICE]
When booking this trip way in advance, I inquired about a late checkout on 12/26/23 as my plane was leaving at 11pm HST. The representative on the phone informed me that she would work it out so that my family and I would not have to pay for an extra day due to the late flight. I was very greatful for the gesture as I was not expecting it which also gave me confidence in my decision to pick this hotel. [I was not looking for a handout]

When we arrived on 12/23/23 around 6: 30pm HST, my family and I were informed by the front desk that they would not honor that extended day on 12/26/23 and that there was no way a representative from that hotel would ever say that. The hostess was passive aggressive and lacked empathy for the situation. We asked to speak to the employee who made the reservation for us the next day and she denied it as well. We were told that we would have to be out of the room by 12pm HST on 12/26/23. When 12/26/23 came we were informed that we had to get out by 11am.no exceptions!

We felt like a bother and unwanted. We were just another guest that was trying to create churn without valid reasons.

[ROOMS]
The rooms we received were a bit cramped but workable. The problem I had was the mold in the bathroom! It felt as though the bathroom hasn't been cleaned thoroughly for quite some time.

[LOCATION]
Location was beautiful and was near a lot of shops and food that didn't require a vehicle. The belmen were very pleasant and helpful.

We stayed at this place during holidays period in Dec 2023. Though it is a Marriott, I don’t feel that they have the same service as other Marriott hotels. The front desk people don’t even have a smile on their faces. The room cleaning happens only once in 2 days. I called for room cleaning as we were going out for a few hours but they didn’t come and told us they don’t know when housekeeping will come. Hung the phone.

Outside of service, the room is decent but nothing to rave about. The location is excellent with beach and many eateries and probably the reason to stay at this place. Not a place where we will like to come back.
