Their fish tasted like cheap Chinese fried chicken. And the food in general tasted low quality. They also didn’t have some items on their menu that were on their online menu.

Great tasting drinks, but food is not very good, not to mention cost. I have no issue spending $$$ on food and drinks, but you need to make it more tasteful than taco bell & burger king.

When a lady orders a Vodka Martini, please don't bring her 4 tablespoons of vodka in the bottom of a clear plastic cup with two short straws! Very disappointed in a bartender who would do that or a resort owner too cheap to provide proper glassware. The food however was quite good (I ordered a house salad with grilled chicken slices). The live Hawaiian music would have been much more enjoyable if they turned the amps down a notch or two. There were seven of us, all kamaainas, having to shout into the ears of our table mates. We enjoyed the evening most when the musicians took their breaks.

Could be better for true tikiphiles but alas the drinks I had were pretty good. Needs a more expansive menu if they are going to use Don's name and his rhum rhapsodies.

The drink quality was good but being ignored by our server over and over during a very slow time in the restaurant/bar gets on the nerves quickly. Felt completely disrespected. We live just right up the street and this place has the worst service of anywhere we have been.

Gave them one more chance, couldn't even order drinks! NO SERVICE! Zero stars.

This place has a beautiful view to watch the sunset. We had the mai tai and lava flow during happy hour and both drinks were good. We didn't think the service was slow, but maybe it really doesnt matter if you're here to relax by the water and enjoy the view.

Relax and while away your evening while enjoying the amazing view of the sunset and sound of the ocean. The staff makes you feel like royalty.

Terrible food. We ordered the mac nut local catch and prime rib. Both were extremely overdone, potatoes were slimy, we couldn’t finish our meal. Wine selection limited and over priced, but the wait staff was kind and attentive. We Went to the bar beforehand to watch the sunset and had good service and cocktails. We wish we would have just had a pupu with our cocktails and ventured to another place for dinner.

After reading some of the previous reviews, my wife and I were dubious. We approached our dinner with mixed feelings.keeping track of how long it took to seat, get drinks, order, etc.
Everything was fantastic! Diane was our server and she was excellent. Very conscientious of our privacy but always making sure we were given the appropriate attention. She really made our dinner great.
The food was perfect. We both ordered the prime rib and it was delightful. We also ordered a side of steamed veggies.wow. Done perfectly. They really accented the meat nicely.
It was a Saturday night and not too busy.maybe 20-25 people.
The manager came by and wished us well - we were just married so they gave us a complementary dessert.an enormous Mud Pie. OMG. It was awesome.
If you have the opportunity to get dinner here I would highly recommend it.

The lady who sat us was rude. We got there and was waiting by the hostess stand, because no one was there. She came and we told her we had reservations. She then left us standing there for 15 minutes waiting for our table. Which would have been fine if the restaurant was actually busy, but it was practically empty. She took us to the table and we sat there just looking at each other for 30 minutes before someone came to check on us. We ordered our food at around 7: 40. We got the all you can eat prime rib and the all you can eat chicken and ribs (now, the way it works is you let your server know when you want another helping/order and they will bring it to you; it is not a buffet where you make your own plate) We got our food at 8: 47. The kitchen closes at 9: 00. So you see the problem, right? We paid twice as much for the all you can eat but received our food 13 minutes before they close the kitchen. Then, the waitress tries to overcharge us $70.

Sunday evening. Got table at 5: 30. No server until 6: 15. Got our order, including the drinks at 7: 20 (after we asked the server to check the kitchen). Only part of the order was brought to us. We had to share each other’s water. Finally got our check at 8: 15.
Not blaming the server. Looked around and saw maybe only 2 other servers. She apologized saying they only had 2 ‘guys’ in the kitchen. This was not her fault, but management needs to find another job. Got home at 8: 40.was supposed to be a simple enjoyable dinner.

Inside Royal Kona Resort. Try Don's Mai Tai bar. Open seating. Fantastic views, great music (albeit from a CD). And hands down: best Mai Tais in town. For happy hour, try the coconut shrimp. We also ordered the cheeseburger, mahi taco & fishwich. All really good! Had the Lava Torte for dessert. Tastey, but the lava flowed more from the top than the middle, but really, that happens a lot with this type of dessert.would probably prefer again but a la mode (doesn't come with ice cream). They validate parking ticket from the parking lot of the Royal Kona resort if you buy drink/food (validation good for up to 2 hours). If you're handicapped and have a placard, there's a few free handicapped parking spots in the roundabout right in front of the Royal Kona Resort (where the valet guy is). We were there for Happy Hour & sunset and even caught a glimpse of their luau (on a Wednesday). We tried going there again Thursday night but the place was packed early due to some type of event. Several tables were reserved, which was different from the day before where it was all open seating. May try again tomorrow. The Mai Tais there are worth every effort!

Beautiful bar with great views of the bay (weather permitting of course). The Mai Tai is the way to go. $6 during their happy hour. The Pele Mai Tai was also good if your looking for something with a good kick. Their blended drink was a great last drink for the night, not overly sweet but desert like. Wouldn't recommend the Kona Itch, tasted almost wholy of alcohol rather than any flavor.

If you're staying at the hotel you can order your drink in a plastic cup to take to the pool or to take up to your room.

The food was fine, typical bar food with a Hawaiian kick. We had much faster service ordering from the bar directly rather than a server.

Bartendar was really rude! If you want to be rude toward your customers dont work in customer service! What i did not appreciate from him was the fact that he felt the need to be arrogant. I do not appreciate being talked down to. I cancelled my order before he started to make it, and i walked away politely. So i don't understand why he felt the need to talk to my friends about the situation and justify his actions.what he tried to justify to them wasnt what was said or what actually happened from my perspective. If he had said he cant i would have been okay about it and changed my whole order. But the fact that he was being arrogant and lied to my friends about why i cancelled my order means that he knows hes lieing.

Terrific spot in Kona! Can’t beat the views and the food is great as well. Always a great place to go.

Expensive and the food is meh, but it's always wonderful somehow. Happy hour is great and the live music is always lovely.

Where is the Aloha. We came for Happy Hour and to listen to Henry Kapono. Henry was great. The food and drinks well.the service was terrible. One waiter would not even take our order. Our bucket of shrimp took 45 minutes and it's not even cooked. We even had to go to the bar to order drinks.we come regularly to listen to Henry who plays monthly. This is not the first time the service was terrible. You would think management would staff accordingly.

Mediocre (mostly) outdoor bar in a resort hotel. Some tables have a nice view of the sunset over the ocean, but you're in Big Island so it's not like sunset views are scarce.

Oh Don, what happened. You are an institution. You're sitting on a gold mine. The restaurant (not the bar) is stuck in 1980 and seems not to have been renovated in a long time. The menu was okay and food wasn't great. But great drinks and views.
