Restaurant Hau Tree reviews
11 We originally went for a few drinks while we watched the sunset on the beach but decided to stay for dinner. Bad choice. The food is simply alright but you pay quite a lot for it compared to all the other places we have gone to here. The server also did not treat us well. Possibly because we were not resort guests She only checked on us to get our order then to give us our check about 45 minutes later. We were planning on ordering more drinks but guess not after getting forgotten about. The place was half empty and she was sitting at the bar chatting for most of that time.
I gave a second star because the atmosphere was nice, however, we will never consider staying at this resort after this experience.
Beautiful restaurant right on the sand. Service fell apart right from the beginning. I’ve never sent any drink or food item back (even if it wasn’t good) until tonight when my wife’s margarita tasted like spicy ocean water. Nasty. After an hour of sitting and waiting they took our order, and after another half hour they told us they were out of fried rice. They served the dish on plain white rice, and the other dish that was supposed to come with chips and salsa was served with fries. Not a big deal. But apparently the table next to us was having similar issues because a long and loud conversation with the manager was being had throughout dinner. Our waiter complained about them to us multiple times and was often heard mumbling his distaste for them under his breath. At the end of our (very very long) evening at the restaurant they agreed to remove the terrible drink and the white rice dish from the ticket, but we were still left with an overpriced and uncomfortable dinner. The sunset was beautiful though.
This place is perfect for lunch during you were at the beach. It’s right on the beach and food are potty good! We went a little before 1pm and took the last table. After that, there was a line for tables.
It was pretty busy so you need to be a little patient for everything. Service was slow but friendly staff, good food and most importantly you are on vacation so we can do slow once in a while!
Nice restaurant right on the sand. Food is good (not great), but the atmosphere is lovely right on the beach and the Mauna Kea resort is gorgeous.
Great option for a romantic dinner and not too expensive. The sunset views were great and the service was wonderful.
Some notes- the Ahi sashimi was cut too thick, should have been thinner. The short ribs were sweet (not my favorite). The fish tacos were good, but not amazing.
The best part of the meal were the popsicles! You should get the coconut ice cream popsicle- it was delicious!
Drinks and food were good. Not a fan of the new $20 parking fee (2-star rating due to paid parking). I’ll go to either Westin or Napua in the future; they don’t charge for parking.
I mean I’ve had better $1 fish tacos in Mexico. These were $28 and there was no more than like 3oz of fish. Food here is just subpar and not worth the prices.
We were here for sunset drinks and dinner. Had a table reserved but opted to sit at the bar to eat. Our bar tender was lovely and attentive. The vibe of the place was vvvvery good. Relaxed beachside dining with some easy
Iistening live music. Do not go past the BRUSSEL SPROUTS. We loved it so much we ordered another bowl. Also enjoyed the fish tacos! Fish was cooked perfectly. Everything came out in timely manner. Highly recommend
This is a beautiful place to catch a sunset. The food is pretty good and reasonably priced compared to other beach front restaurants in the area.
Seriously maybe the best lunch spot on the big island. The food is excellent, the drinks are fabulous, and the beach is second to none! Get the bread pudding.
Great dinner and good wait staff. We had made reservations at the wrong place (who knew there was a Hau Tree in Waikiki also!?) and they fit us in on the Big Island anyway. I had the fish tacos- so much flavor! My husband had the hamburger and also loved it. Highly recommend eating here!
