Hawaii Island Humane Society reviews
9Zero help with a stray chicken killing dog. "Hold on to it for a while", and then fill out some paper work to "re-home" it. Or, call the cops, i.e. Animal Control". Really?
My personal experience since the changes to the name society, they don't accept pets. Especially kittens Because they don't have the space. I have tried other places like rainbow friends. They, too, don't have a spaces to take any. And everything has to be done over online through appointments.
Very tremendous
Animals well keep, organized.
Probably going to adopt a dog, post on sevice with associates then
Great place.very clean.have great advice.they help with dog & cat food, litter if they have. I love this place.they really care
Under new management? That's got to be a good thing. Fingers crossed, that these new guys do it right.
Amazing and kind staff they bring light when its dark out blessed to have them in our time of need!
Great service there for spay and neuter procedure on long waiting list. If you're lucky to get a call or text from it's veterinary clinic. By the way, there is safe distance protocols in the light of our continuing pandemic.
I have been going here for years in kona and keaau. They will pick up clear in naalehu. I have gotten 2 older dogs in kona 20yrs ago and 2 older cats 10yrs ago i still have the cats. Their animals have everything you need to start a healthy pet family. I have always gone to animal shelters they are the best pets ever its as if they know their wanted when you get them. The employees are the best too
My experience is from a few years ago, but I'm still traumatized by it today. I rescued 2 young cats from the side of an empty road, shivering in the rain at night and took care of them for two weeks, using my own money for food/supplies. They were scared but in two weeks time became friendly, so that I felt they could be adopted since I couldn't keep them. I surrendered them to HIHS along w/$100 donation, trusting they would be taken care of, but not long after they told me they ran tests and were HIV or Felv + and would put to sleep asap. I said I would take them back or Rainbow Friends would take them but they refused to allow it. *Be aware-if you take them an animal, it might be put down.
