Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park reviews
16Amazing view if the crater! Hike isn't too bad either. You can go at night to a specific viewing center to see the lava. A truly unique and humbling experience.
Fabulous service and information by visitor center staff. So many wonderful lookouts, trails, sights and parking areas. And the spectacular Chain of Craters Road to Holei Sea Arch!
The best time to see the volcano is at night time because you can see the lava. It was a really cool experience to see the active volcano in life. The park is nice and clean. The visitor center is very helpful to guide you around. I went for sunrise and the experience was magnificent
Day two of our Wasabi Tour. Today's is volcano and star gazing day. This park is lush, green, and massive. Kona has some awesome sites to see and have not seen one yet that disappoints. Only issue I have is time. Wish we had more to see it all.
Not much to see when we went, roads closed no lava, sea arch not accessible. No place to park. Giving two stars for the drive down to the ocean and we saw the local Hawaiian Goose
Such a special place. Pele I have been so interested in Lava my whole life and so glad I have actually seen it in person. Lots of fun spending all evening and hiking trails and sitting at the top and waiting and watching the action.
A nice place to visit. We didn't really see the lava flowing from the crater overlook in the park. When we tried to go to another part of the park where you can hike for a closer look of the lava, the parking is full and the park rangers turn us back away. Anyway it's still a nice park to visit and learn the history of this park.
Very polite and helpful park rangers. The lava tubes were awesome. They had nice steps with railings to get you down there and lights at your feet so you arent walking in the dark. The steam vents and active lava was also a must see. But most impressive to us was how helpful the park rangers were. They went out of their way to help give us directions to view Nene geese flying to their nest at the end if the day. As passionate bird watchers they helped us cross that off the bucket list!
Nice national park with very good park ranger to explain the details of the volcano, hiking trails and night lavas visits.
Anytime you have a chance to go to an active volcano I think everything about it would pretty much be pretty awesome it's a clean place informative United States Park
Amazing and definitely worth spending a day or two. And come back at night to see the red lava under the stars but keep in mind that parking can be tricky between 5pm and 9pm
Finally we could see lava flowing out of a volcano. Best viewing is night time. Kīlauea is an active shield volcano in the Hawaiian Islands. Its most recent eruption began on September 29,2021. Take the Devastation Trail to the end of the viewpoint. See the attached map for directions which was shared by a resort on the way as it was hard to find at night. It can be easily done on your own. We also visited again went next day during day time too. Go early as finding parking is very difficult. Also the Sea Arch offers amazing oceans views with cliffs. Worth the drive and tons of stops on the way as kids were excited to explore the craters.
The Volcanoes National Park is a must-see while on the Big Island. What an amazing sight to behold! I would recommend an entire day at the park to fully enjoy it. Wear comfortable shoes and dress in layers. You may experience weather from cool & rainy to hot & sunny while driving around.
Awesome, saw it from the air in a helicopter, and from the visitor center in 2019. Definitely would spend the money for the helicopter ride again. It was overcast the day we had booked, they let us change days, and we got a fantastic view of the vents and lava fields. Even if we didn’t see the vents the ride along the coast was worth the expense. Not sure if the visitor center is open, last I heard it was closed because of the volcanic eruption activity.
Been traveling to different state and national parks over the years, and this one didn't disappoint. The volcano is currently active, so that was a fun sight, both in the day and after dark. The lava flows are marked well, and easy turnoffs to view the various areas. Very clean park, knowledgeable staff, and overall a great experience.
