Hilina Pali Overlook reviews
6Favorite Trail in the park. Beautiful outlook and a challenging down and back hike to Ka’aha. Or if you have time backpack to Halape and the other backcountry sites. Ka’aha is about 4 miles and 2200’ feet down. Most of the elevation takes place right at the start of the hike where you descend a steep cliff on switchbacks. Then there is a great walk on an open grassy flat interspersed with lava tubes. There is a rain barrel at the shelter and I usually filter water there. Plan for at least 5 liters per person
You need to take a 5min hike down hill, in a slightly overgrown trail to get the best viewpoint. The parking spot only provides a picnic table, so the long drive down there is not worth it, if you don't plan on walking the short path.
Good overlook, great spot for a picnic, clean bathroom. Fun drive out here too. Lots of changes of scenery and vegetation enroute.
The winding long drive on the single-lane side road is not worth it just for the viewpoint!
It's hard to go. There are quite a few blind corners where you cannot pass each other. When you arrive and see the scenery, you can only be impressed. If you go down the path from the left side of the bench for about 3 minutes, you can see a superb view unobstructed by plants
Not so lucky with the weather when we got here but who can blame the weather? Nice spot for sunsets if youre lucky.
