Ho'omaluhia Botanical Garden Visitor Center reviews
18I visit this park occasionally and would call it a pretty park rather than a botanical garden. There is a small section adjacent to the visitor center that has a wide variety of interesting plants, labeled with their names, place of origin, etc. Mostly, the park is typical vegetation with large greasy areas. What makes this park stand out is the aggressive security staff. They are overly restrictive and often hostile, particularly to people who want to take pictures. We recently entered the park on foot (during the walk-in only time) and were told repeatedly by the gate sentry that the park was closed. My wife asked if he knew the park was open to walk-ins and if he thought we were too white to be locals. He acknowledged that he thought we were tourists. We proceded in along with other folks who perhaps were not too white.
I witnessed an instance of extremely rude behavior upon getting near the entrance. The senior lady responsible for overseeing the entrance raised her voice and yelled at the driver because the vehicle didn't stop at the precise spot she desired. The intensity of her reaction created a hostile atmosphere that left me feeling uneasy. This encounter marked the worst experience since arriving in Honolulu, to the extent that I had to go to great lengths to reassure my family members that this incident wouldn't define the rest of our trip. At one point, we even contemplated leaving the area. It's important to note that she doesn't own the place, and her behavior was both unwarranted and unpleasant.
One of our favorite places to take guests when they come to visit. The botanical gardens are so tranquil and relaxing. Beautiful place to drive through or stop by and have a picnic. Bathrooms are always clean and there is plenty of parking throughout the garden.
Incredible views and plants. My favorite is the Cory umbraculifara and the metroxylon amicarum!
It’s breathtaking, beautiful,
Lush green and free to visit. Staff over there is really helpful
Beautiful place! Amazing that entry is free. Love just sitting under the trees and relaxing. Kids walked down to the pond and fed the fish.
Something for everyone! Whether you drive through or hike the trails, it's an amazing experience of God's beautiful creation to enjoy and learn from!
Amazing. Thats all you gotta know. I was only there for a couple hours, brought a lunch and my wife for a date at the lake. Will go again to check out the rest, only scratched the surface.
A beautiful botanical garden, one of the nicest places on the island of Oahu, I highly recommend a walk around the Garden. Tropical climate, noticeable humidity, amazing plants, a beautifully situated lake, a noticeable "magical" aura of an extraordinary place like Hawaii!
Magnificent garden, worth visiting if you are on Oahu. Well maintained and filled with small walking trails. You can also drive around me and stop at different spots. The lake is superb and the view of the mountains is magnificent.
One of the most beautiful gardens I have ever seen. The setting is a mountain backdrop with all the fantastic trees and plants, and the lake too. So beautiful! There's an art gallery, camping and fishing programs. It gets packed sometimes especiallyon weekends, but it's such a big park that the parking lot and visitor center are the only places you can notice it.
Hoomaluhia Botanical Garden is by far the largest botanical garden I’ve had the pleasure of visiting in my entire life. As soon as you step foot inside, you realize that you’re in for an incredible experience. To fully explore this garden, you’d need an entire day, as it’s brimming with so many captivating sights and features.
One of the most remarkable aspects of Hoomaluhia is how they’ve organized the garden into various sections, each dedicated to plants native to specific regions. This thoughtful arrangement takes you on a journey around the world, right in the heart of Hawaii.
At the summit of the botanical garden, you’re treated to a breathtaking panoramic view of the surrounding mountains. It’s a picture-perfect scene that’s sure to leave you in awe.
What’s even more impressive is that entrance to this remarkable garden is entirely free. The staff simply requests that you provide them with the number of visitors, and they keep track of entries at the garden’s entrance.
To make exploration convenient, there are several free parking lots scattered throughout the garden, allowing you to drive to the sections that interest you most. This thoughtful design ensures you can enjoy every corner of this garden without having to walk its entirety.
In summary, Hoomaluhia Botanical Garden is nothing short of breathtaking. It offers a diverse array of plant life, stunning views, and an unforgettable experience that’s a true gem in Hawaii.
Magical experience, would definitely recommend, it was one of my favorite places in Hawaii
Perfect, but it says that it closes at 16h
We were inside and while we stop to pee, an employee says that they were closing and it was 15: 15… I think she needs a new watch
We received a friendly overview of the entire park plus maps. After all that driving around, the tour near the visitor center was my favorite and I didn't get to see it all. Next time I'll start here.
Such a beautiful garden many different areas to explore and the lake was wonderful I heard the the President Obama likes to visit here to. We saw some mongoose which was fun even though they are not native and eat all tge native birds eggs: (
The botanical garden is incredible, many types of plants, great landscapes and everything is very organized.highly recommended
Beautiful gardens with a 10 minute path to a small lake with ducks and fish. My 7-year-old was skeptical but really enjoyed herself!
