15 A must go! Please check the weather and make sure it is not too cloudy or the moisture level is not over 80.
We walk along sliding sands trail for 1.5miles and come back. A very good cardio workout!
Good view of the "crater" with a couple of signs explaining things. It is a different view than the one you get from the top, so worth it to stop either on your way up or down.
Scouted the overlooks the day prior to my sunrise reservation and settled on this one. I chose wisely! Only two other people there for sunrise. You can only turn into this overlook when heading back down the mountain so it must get overlooked by the sunrise crowds racing to the summit. I also had a very emotional experience here. Cried during the sunrise and even found myself choking back tears on the drive back down. A very powerful place indeed and a must do while on Maui.
The afternoon up here was awesome. Bring snacks and drinks, hydrate. And it's cool at the top, be prepared.
Top of the world! I'm personally glad we had a driver to get us to the top and down safely. Views were otherworldly.
Must see. Fantastic view of the cinder cones.like looking into a scene on Mars…breathtaking red mounds on a grand scale.
Take your time and be patient, passing clouds change quickly. The view is fantastic, the visibility changes in a matter of seconds, giving this place a mysterious and magical atmosphere.
Great spot to take scenic pictures with a smaller crowd. There’s also a restroom located in the parking area.
If you are able, this is a must see while on Maui. It's a long day but well worth it. Take warm clothes, snacks and water with you for this trip. If you get motion sickness, plan ahead. The bus ride up is a windy trip
This overlook was less popular than the main attraction up top, but its still a gem. Spectacular view of the crater, looking right at several of the smaller cinder cones in the main crater. Spectacular overall
Great view of the crater but make sure to keep going to the top!
If already went to the summit or visitors center you can probably skip this.
This lookout has a clean, accessible bathroom. No stairs. It is non flushing type of toilet/outhouse.
Cool viewpoint. Would definitely recommend making the stop. Can only stop on the way down, not up.
Great spot to stop on way down from the summit after sunrise. Still over the clouds but can get some really nice pictures if no clouds. Have another great angle of the volcano crater/summit, can also see the towns below.
I definitely recommend visiting for beautiful views, however, make sure you check the weather before heading out, if there are any clouds, you may not see anything at all. Also, bring layers and a windbreaker, it can get pretty cold up there. Lastly, for any hiking, be mindful that it's over 9000 ft altitude, so you might feel it.
