Nature hike is best imaginable intro to native Hawaii forests. No ocean or volcano views, but the forest trees are the stars here. Native trees are so much bigger than on any other forest hike I have done. Sounds of the forest may have been the best part. A+ nature walk.

Good place for camping! They have cabins and camp grounds. The place is peaceful. Campgrounds has public restrooms and showers, they also have a gazebo where you can cook, and grill. They also have table and bench that is free to use.

This state park has nice trails. Cabins are available to rent. Decent restrooms as well. There's a large covered area for a meeting place.

Nice hikes, The trails are a bit difficult to understand and the signed don’t always make sense:/ and if you want to walk the outline of the park, you have to take different trails.

Phenomenal jungle hike. Very disorienting at times. Check out the map, keep your barring with the sun, and stay on the path!

Looking for something off the beaten path? The nature trail is less than a mile, flat, and full of differnt native plants. It was misting rain and super quiet when we visited on a Monday afternoon. The trees reminded me of something out of the movie Avatar.

We thoroughly enjoyed our camping stay at Kalopa State Rec area. Warm days made for enjoyable hikes and yard games. Cool nights lent themselves to hibachi campfire cookouts. You will need a reservation to camp but its worth the effort. Its very quiet in the park. If you are not a camper try the well kept cabins. Also make a little time to see the Polynesian Gardens.

If you and yours like vast trail in thick rooted jungle terrain this is your state park. As Kalopa state park sits near 2k ft in elevation and has some gnarly mtb lines. Also very primitive but ultra clean cabins for rent on site too to mention! Bring a rain jacket just incase.

Beautiful forest and very few people at the park. More signage for the starts of trails and trail maintenance would be helpful.

Nice a cool. Windward trades whistle through the trees. Restrooms open on the campside part of the park. Cabin available for rental and nice trails around the park. Plenty of endemic plant throughout. Nice picnic area depending on the weather. Foggy and drissley at times. Especially late afternoon and evening.

Beautiful area for easy nature hikes and views of native plants. Camping available but I've never camped here.

This is a nice little park that's off the beaten path. There's lots of parking and some nice picnic areas. There's a camping area also.

Before my friend was able to build his one-room cabin on his property nearby, we sometimes stayed in the cabins at Kalopa State Recreation Area. It is easy access from the main road and has both cabins and tent-camping are possible, and there are barbecue grills and picnic tables. It's fun to hike on the large mountainside grounds, too.

There was some confusion on one the forks in the trail. The fork was not marked and after traveling for awhile, decided to backtrack, as to not wander too much. Lovely trees, one large tree has bark that felt like wool. Nice assortment of wild flowers.
